You need to connect 2 of the wires together (and I dont remember which 2). But if you test the wires then flip the switch over, you'll see which wire the sensor shuts down. You can also trace it on the wiring diagram. The BAS wont reset until you turn off the ignition. Sorry its been a long time since we disabled it so I cant be of much more help. |

Hey all- this is my first posting. I bought my wife an '01 Blast. She loved it. Any way, shortly after she got her license we were on some country rides so she could get use to riding as this was her first bike. She did go through a safety course BEFORE she got her license. Well, the bike started to cut out and stumble. We got home the next day I went and got a new plug wire oil oil filter (God they go through the oil) air filter (tune up and general maint). The bike still had problems with the misfire. So I looked into the ignition coil and replaced. Well, not only did it still misfire it started to shut down. I noticed that it was only having the problem after the bike was warm and wouldn't start till it was cool. I checked the fuel vent and the carb boot both good. I then changed out the ignition module. Guess what, It runs great!! Anyone else have this problem?? If so think back. Did anyone hit the revlimiter? My brother-in-law took it for a ride and did. didn't know if this was just by chance. Now she wants different bars.(black) She wants more of a streetfighter look to it. can anyone give some ideas as to what brand and models rise and pull back?? Pictures?? She also wants a stock height seat she now has the low seat on it. Any trades out there?? she is 5'6" thanks- |

Welcome to the Thumper Forum Scouty! ALOT of us have had problems with the ignition module, with the exact symptoms that you had, so you have nothing out of the ordinary. Superbike bars will make the Blast another bike as far as ergonomics go, The Big Kid is 6'2" and rides with the low seat and the Superbike bars. So try that first. They can be had for less than $15 from Chapparrel |

The G.P. bars are a good choice also...about an inch more rise than the Superbike bars with a bit more pullback. I had the superbike bars and liked them ok for around town...but they dont have much pullback which was cocking my wrists and causing problems when on long straight runs...in either case, bars are cheap enough that you can experiment. |

Yep, my ignition did the same thing. Sounds like you got it fixed after that. I went with the "daytona" bars from JC Whitney. Sounds like the GP bars are similar, a bit taller than superbike bars, they fit me well. |

The only weak part on the ignition module: The Hall Effect Sensor. When you take it out, you notice something sticking out the other side. Apparently, vibrations can cause one of the 3 pins to the HEI to break, but it stays in contact. It becomes sensitive to temperature changes and such since it's broken, but still there. |

Welcome Scouty! Tall seats are in high demand, low seats are a dime a dozen. Change the bars first (concur with superbikes from Chapparrel) and you will not believe how much it changes the bikes feel. It goes from scooter to motorcycle. I prefer the low seat because I like the feel of being 'in' the motorcycle rather than on top of it and it lets me hang my knee out easier. But for long hauls I use the Corbin WARNING: New Blast seats are only about $100. Dont get suckered on ebay. |

Hey, I had a quick question. My dealer told me to use 93 octane but my service manual says the Blast needs 87. I'm running a stock setup. Is the premium gas needed? Has anyone had problems with this? thanks! |

I thought I heard somewhere that using higher octane gasolines than what the engine requires was actually bad for a motor if the motor doesn't specifically require it? |

Use the premium. I run only 93 and my bike loves it. With 87 it seems a bit sluggish. |

Book error - It has always been hi-octane - min 91 can go as low as 87 but performance does decline as the octane decrease, and low octane plus a hot day could lead to detonation. EZ |

Higher octane isnt bad=myth. Too low octane can be disastrous. Too high of an octane can actually decrease performance. But unless you're buying racing/airplane fuel, you're not going to find out! Engine damage would still be highly unlikely. |

Maggie rides long distances with her Blast, when the engine broke on it after 50,000 miles, she bought another one. http://www.whereismaggiemae.com/ I have ridden 400-500 days on Blasts before and I would do it again just to say I did. (Message edited by swampy on March 05, 2009) |

Put on my new headlight bracket, raised the light 4 inches and tucked in the signals. Made it for $6 and a little spray paint, used the original bracket.

Welcome to the Thumper Forum Davemilwaukee! Tell these West Coast and Southern Blasters just how cold it is and how we can't even start going out to the garage to work till March because its too cold and the path to the garage is covered in ice. |
