I believe the backfiring is caused by the lean condition that results from sudden drops in back pressure. When my stock exhaust broke at the head, if it moved just a little bit away, I felt a surge in power. If it got further away, I felt a loss of power.

PLEASE HELP!! Hey guys..i just put on new jardine exhaust, K&N filter and re-jetted to 48/175. The bike started fine, idled fine and i took it for a test drive. The bike wont rev high, i give it gas and it just wont go. Any help please!!

You suck, you live in Florida!

Did you shim the needle? The reason I am asking is if you took the cover off the top of the carburetor, you may have pinched the slide diaphragm when you put it back together.

Did you check for throttle operation when you put the carburetor back together? Hold the slide up and operate the throttle to watch the butterfly behind it open all the way and close all the way again?

If that isn't it recheck you main jet as it is the main fuel circuit giving you problems.

yes i did open the top but could not get it all the way off because i striped the bolt that holds down the throttle bracket, so i did not shim the needle. So i very carefully slid the top back on making sure the diaphragm was ok, but it could of been damaged, i dont know. I did check the throttle operation and it is working. One thing i checked was the spark plug. It was loose last night and i took it out and the tip was a white ashy color. I am going to the store now to get a NGK.

It's not all rosy in Florida this morning! It was 39 this morning!!! thats like -10 Michigan degrees...silly winter...it's gonna be cold for another whole day!!! but in the 70's for my Sunday ride ; )

If you follow the Ponce De Leon from Daytona to St. Augustine - thats a nice curvy road, I just don't remember too many in Fl. - same type of winter weather here - but have we got twisties!

Which exhaust system is slightly louder then stock? I want to have better flow then stock, but not all of the noise.

How loud is the LSR Header Exhaust you made?
Any recomended improvements?

For now it will be going on a mostly stock bike. but the 515 and high comp piston will eventualy happen.

I was just looking through E-Bay in the "buy it now" for Buell Blast...there is an exhaust system for sale...they call it a "hooker" exhaust...but they list a buell part number for it...it has two cans with turn outs...it may be a Pro series...I dunno cause I have never seen one...new in the box the ad says...some place in Alaska....I would post a link, but I don't know how.

The LSR set up is as loud as the Pro-series that Fast is talking about, which means its not that loud at all.

I love the sound of my Jardine....but I'm old and half deaf!!!!or is that half crazy??? It has taken on a more throaty sound with age....guess the packing is about blown out...

Pro Series exhaust comes in a Hooker Headers box!
True, not that loud either. A pleasing deep tone that will set off car alarms (due to the heavy pulse and not the noise). Though some e-bay ads have called it "ear splitting" and my favourite "If loud pipes save lives, you'll be immortal with this one"!!!LOL!

I just put my vance & hines pipes on my bike last week. I'm still waiting for my jets to come in from the dealer. When I engine break or just let off the throttle, i get a little bit of backfire. will the jetted carb help this? Is it possible that I am causing irreversible damage to the engine by riding it with the exhaust and not the jetted carbs while waiting for the parts.

You'll be fine. Just listen for knocking and pinging. If that happens, you're in trouble. I ran many, many miles without a rejet (and great gas mileage).

Backfiring: you may have an exhaust leak.

Is it backfire, or just deceleration burble? If it's just that popcorn sound (louder on your exhaust) you can enrichen your idle mix about 1/2 a turn and it'll go away.

You know - a thought - both the Force and the LSR Custom end with 2" sections before the cans - perhaps 1 3/4" is too small a final header size to keep flow free enough?

I'm thinking of having my Cherry Bomb redone with a bigger pipe. It has 1 3/4" the whole length, but they squish it a little when they bend it. I'm thinking 2" at the bend and maybe 2 1/4" shortly after...

Makes sense.
A skinnier pipe lends itself better to low end torque. The Force and LSR were designed for maximum output, sacrificing low end torque.

Funny thing is - the LSR has bottom end - probably because of its first step for 1 3/4" is at 1 1/2" - thus creating a tiny torque cone - though TP said it was for the first reversion, it still acts like a mini torque cone. The Torque cones on ebay are aprox 2 1/2" inches long and choke down to almost an inch - and for a Blast rob way to much off the top end.

I can certainly confirm the LSR bottom end torque. EZ's LSR bike really takes off for a Blast. I'm still working on the LSR duplication process, but my students are panicking because they have an Optometry final exam coming up so I haven't had the time to go back to the muffler shop to get something put together. I'll keep you posted on my progress and then maybe I'll swing on by and do some more modifications.

I've wondered if the 1st inch or two of the stock pipe might make a good torque+anti-reversion cone, installed in a larger pipe?

The PS seems to start small and step up to larger sizes, and also has extra length built in - "on paper" it looks like a good design, and "on the bike" it looks badass, but I guess the diameters & lengths must be tuned more for low-end grunt?

maybe it's my old eyes, but it seems hard to judge the shape of exhaust cans in pics!

I've been pondering over photos and wondering: does the Jardine muffler can for the Blast have a circular or an oval (flattened) cross-section? What about the V&H? I don't see many ACTUAL Blasts in real life, and never a chance to look over any modded ones, so I've only seen these things in pictures!

the other thing I thought might be interesting would be using an XB or tuber exhaust and reworking the "Y" into a step or two - maybe use an xb9 pipe for midrange power, and tuber or xb12 for top end?

I had the Vance & Hines on my Blast. I loved the deeper note it gave the exhaust but it was waaaaay to loud. I'd remove the V&H from your list because of the db level.

I heard Fast1075's bike after he put the Jardine on. It was more civilized but clearly not tame. I'd vote for a Jardine.
