I had some teeth missing on a belt but the belt didn't break. The Big Kid had a belt break for no reason, I had a couple broken belts hanging from the rafters in the garage, I will look at them closer next time I go there if I am not locked out..... |

Replacing the 'sprocket' is manual recommended, but not an absolute requirement. I've never heard the actual reason for 'sprocket' replacement (like from the/a design engineer). Is it wear? Is it a precautionary measure since the early 73 tooth pulley failed? Or? |

I'd guess it's so the sprocket and belt wear evenly. I know when I replace my chain on my bicycles, I also do the chainrings and cassette. Same principle probably. As for getting the sprocket off, what kind of torx bit do you use? I have another damaged rear wheel, but my bits deformed and I never got those bolts out. I was thinking I'd replace with Grade 8 allen head bolts. |

You need the factory bolts...if you look at them closely, they have a step built in...the stepped part secures the sprocket..the "head" part secures the cover...if you use regular bolts, they will loosen up as the plastic cover deforms around the bolt....unless you run it without the cover.. |

Woke up to 3 inches of new snow this morning! It was all grey out side this morning, the lights of the city reflecting off the snow in the darkness. I went outside and shoveled the walk and the top part of the driveway waiting for my ride to the office. I still can't get the smile off my face Life is good! |

Hey ya'll, from SC! First time writing in but long time reader. I have an 02 blast and have recently purchased a givi 750, I'm having problems installing with the stock brackets and I really don't want to bend or cut them. Any suggestions, replacement brackets maybe, if so where would I find them to fit my blast? |

Buy an extra set and cut them - then you have both - the brackets are not expensive. EZ |

I purchased a diamond cut headlight from ebay last month. The light looks good but I can't figure out where the two wires sticking out of the bottom towards the front go. It didn't come with any instructions or paperwork. I've repeatly sent messages to the seller but with no response, can any one tell me what they're for and where do they go? Aleutian1....is this the light you're talking about http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-06-BUELL-BLAST-D IAMOND-HEADLIGHT-7-XENON-HID_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcat egoryZ36476QQihZ002QQitemZ120367276833#ebayphotoho sting If it is then I have one of those, and I'd recommend not bothering to even install it. It wasn't advertised as a HID when I bought mine, but I can assure you that isn't an actual HID. 2nd, there is a piece that sticks out in the middle of the headlight with a bowl that is used to reflect the light from the bulb back to the shiny reflective backing in the light. Anyway, that little piece sticking out didn't last one season before if fell off and is now just rolling around on the bottom half of the light. I'll be removing it and finding something else before the snow melts here. It was a cheap light so I'm not too upset, but I would personally not recommend it, although maybe I just got a defective light too. As far as the install goes, one wire is for powering the little blue light(the blue coating on that little bulb also burned off in about a week and was just white after that) which gives it that blue(fake HID effect) glow. The other is for the High beam. What I did was stripped the ends of the wires and hooked them onto the prongs on the back of the light and then connected the main wiring harness from the bike and pushed it onto the prongs making sure the wires stayed in place. I can't remeber which prong does which(EZ might know) but i just did Trial and error until I got it right and then soldered them into place. The wire for the blue light should just be hooked to whichever prong powers the low beam, and the other wire will obviously go on another prong. Be careful when you're testing, I would not recommend holding the wires in place with your hand and then flipping the power on to test This also reminds me, I haven't thrown out the second bulb I got when I ordered mine, but if anyone wants the piece of junk let me know. It's yours for whatever the price of shipping & handling is to get it to you......now that's a sales pitch if I ever heard one lol Speaking of light, anyone heard of these tri-bar headlights? The couple I've found are kind of expensive but they look like they'd hold up a lot better to the vibrations of a thumper. (Message edited by dummkauf on January 31, 2009) |

Dummkauf, That looks like the same one, same company for sure. My high and low beams are both working fine without the wires hooked into the prongs but I used H.I.D. bulbs that I found at a swap meet for $10. The headlight I ordered didn't come with any bulbs. I'm guessing the wires were maybe for the bulbs they were suppose to send me...however the lens looks like it has a halo around it. I thought maybe the wires were for that but I've never seen one on a motorcycle before. I know one thing is for sure, I'll never order from that company again. |

Aleutian1 - does your bike actually have enough juice to power a HID bulb without a balast??? I've looked into HID's for my bike and I have them on my car(came from the factory with them). From my research I've also discovered that if your bike didn't come stock with HID's, odds are you won't have enough juice to start your bike and the light without an electrical upgrade, or there is the poor mans version of installing an on/off switch for the light, then you would start the bike with the light off, and after the bike is running flip the light on. HID's take a lot less energy than halogens to run, but they take an butt load of power to get the initial spark to ignite the gases. Also, in almost every state that on/off switch is illegal as well. Also, if you are actually running a HID, and just installed the bulb in a standard halogen housing you are kind of being a jackass to everyone else on the road. Aside from the fact that it is illegal pretty much everywhere in the U.S. to run a HID without a projector, you will also be blindinig any & all oncoming traffic. A legal, DOT approved, HID upgrade for your bike will likely wind up costing several hundred dollars as well as require an overhaul or your electrical system to make it work right. |

Krjoseph: Buy a good quality torx bit. The cheap Taiwanese kind will break or twist. At a minimum use Craftsmen or S & K, Snap-on(if you're rich), Mac, Matco,KD, or any other bit that says Made in USA or probably sold at your NAPA dealer. The rear wheel pulley bolts can be really difficult to remove the first time, so you need a quality bit and care in removal. |

Dummkauf- Thats something I'm going to have to check on. I've had no problem starting my bike and the bulb doesn't seem to be any different or brighter than the ones I've seen on cars. The housing is suppose to be made for HID. I'm still pretty new to all the tech. stuff so perhaps what I got is different from what I thought I was getting. Thanks for the info. |

Aleutian1 - I doubt it's a HID. There is a definite difference between HID & Halogen..I notice it every time I go from my Mazda to my girlfriends Honda...not sure how I drove a car without them now. when you turn on a HID the light will take a second or 2 to fully light up. You will see it come on dimly and then brighten up over a period of 1-2 seconds. It almost looks like the light is pointed down and then flips up, but in reality it is just the light powering up to full luminocity. There are plenty of people out there, especially on EBay, selling halogens and calling them HID. |

Did you check out the classifieds section? Contact anybody who remotely might want to trade. It seems everybody wants a different colour (it used to be black, black, black). {I did sell my red and black sets and have converted both my Blasts to yellow. If I remember the 2000 red is the dark red which is really nice. Yellow is not usually a highly sought after colour (like black).} Check ebay regularly. Does condition count? Less than perfect is cheaper and easier to find and with yellow you hardly notice scratches. PS I'll probably move this to the appropriate section in the classifieds (in a day or so) or you can repost there. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/328602.html?1233619355 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/328601.html?1233603924 |

PS Welcome Blast 56! The belt just fell off? Or did it break? Was it a stock set up? Most importantly has the pulley been recalled (changed to new style 80 tooth pulley)? |

Hello, I had a question for other Blast peoples... Has anyone heard of mounting a fatter tire onto this bike? How would the performance, safety, etc. be affected?? I would think a wider tire would be safer to ride with... obviously harder to turn with, but bike would have a better chance of staying up when hitting sand or loose road, etc??? Let me know! |

Welcome Bish and Barrysnow! Bish, we'll see you in the tire section! Barry, since it backfired and now wont start you may have cracked the carb/manifold coupler/boot (Das Boot). Washing your bike shouldnt have any ill effects, just as riding in the rain shouldnt. Some people tend to get overzealous using a pressure washer or concentrate water pressure in places they shouldnt such as the aircleaner, wheel bearings, under the seat, into wiring, etc. If it doesnt start after drying out, I'd look at the boot. |
