I removed the cover, peeked inside, checked if the wheel(?) moved when I hit the clutch (which it did), put the cover back on and tried the bike again. Wow, now it's working. I did absolutely nothing that (I can think of) to fix the problem yet it now seems corrected. Thanks, Reuel, for the assistance! |

Ok I'm attempting the drilling method Before I get to carried away here, are there any suggestions for the angle of the bars? It's kind of hard to judge without riding around on it first, but I currently have them swept back as far as the rise goes. |

er... that does not read right. The old bars where in line with the angle of the forks. The new bars I a have almost upright. |

More comfortable for commuting or in city riding and quiet nice in the twisties as well - I just wrapped duct tape twice around mounting area - the important part is do they lock side to side. EZ |

Yup. I got it done last night. I had some problems with the cables. The brake / clutch a cables especially. The clutch cable rubs the headlight housing now, and I had to loosen the bolt on the back of the brake lever to move the brake line so it was not getting pinched. I did this AFTER the little white boot on the end of the cable shattered. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to position and tie the cables. |

Take your time - it will work itself out, then zip-tie EZ |

I have everything adjusted and zip tied down. Mirrors are an issue but that's another thread. Overall I like the new riding position and new Traction Grips, as well does my girlfriend who will eventually end up with this bike. The only downside is that my left palm begins to hurt after just a few miles. I thought these grips would prevent that but apparently I'm putting that much pressure down on my hand. Anyone's experience telling them what I need to adjust? |

Yes - relax your grip - it will improve your riding experience. EZ |

I had the same problem when I switched my bars, was leaning on them a bit much. You will figure it out. You should be squeezing the bike with your legs and letting your abs support your trunk. It takes a little getting used to, unless you have abs of steel like me. Seriously though, could changing the bars to clubmans affect your speedo? I am shifting out of first at 25 and into third at 50. It is also letting me downshift into first at a little above 20 mph, when before it HAD to be under 15. What gives? " my left palm begins to hurt "Could also be from the position you have the handlebars adjusted and the position you have the clutch lever adjusted in. With superbike bars and standard pegs (y-frames) not that much weight should be on your hands, but it is possible to overdo it. With clubmans or clip-ons a lot of weight will be placed on your hands if you dont learn to use your abs. Add rearsets and your legs and 'core' will need to do a lot of work to keep the weight off your hands. Modern sportbikes are better built for this style of riding (mostly, imho, because they have a bigger better tank to work with. The tiny little Blast tank is 'uncomfortable' to grip with your knees). The clubmans better shifting is probably attributed to a better or overadjusted clutch cable. Redline in first is at between 32-35 mph. 25mph is a little low for WOT running. fwiw.

I saw a set of handle bars from Crossroads Performance on a blast recently in a youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHSjs-Kg_i0 I emailed crossroads about the bars and they have since stopped manufacturing them. Does anyone know if there is something comparable out there? Thanks, Adam |

Buell Cafe Bars: http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/productinfo/M AP501645/Bars-And-Rests/O.E.-Replica-Handlebars/On -Two-Wheels sorry - can't take the pic - different format, however, they where made for an M2, are 7/8" and are shallow bend not the usual cafe bend - so they should fit, at half the price of the Buell made units with no adapter needed and lock side to side - since they where made for Buell. Cobie, you got mail. Pics from a test fit - stock clamps needed as spacers with longer bolts.
yellow tape is to keep from scratching, but donut holes are because i'm easily distracted |

Here's a new handlebar I'm trying out. The position is a little more laid back than the previous - more pullback, less forward offset, extra spacers to put the grips a couple inches farther back and higher. I'm thinking this will be more comfortable on longer rides and a good fit with stock peg mount.

thanks! this setup is a little wider than the original widget bar, about 27-1/2", IIRC. Here's a pic from further back, with an extra 1/2" spacer (in addition to the 1" needed to easily lock steering to either side).

My adjustable clip-ons - with signals - the width is 26" - height above tree is about an inch and a quarter - yet the angle is comfortable - done lots of long rides on them - I love the fact that they are so narrow, that splitting lanes is never a problem. My Daily driver is 29". The splitting traffic mantra is always the width of your bars.

lol - I've never had the guts to try lane splitting, I always figure some redneck might see me coming and open his door or something! your adjustables are 26" INCLUDING the signals & mirrors?! wow! I haven't tried anything narrower than my old bars, which were 24" to the ends of the bars, and at times I thought they could do with a bit more leverage. How wide are yours to the ends of the bars? does it feel strange? if lane splitting was NOT a factor, would you set them up wider? What about the superbike bars - does that 29" include the mirrors? with my wider bars and napoleon mirrors, total width is 38-1/4"!!! |

I cut an 1 1/2" off each side on the superbike bars, and that is with the mirrors 3/4 folded - like if I was splitting lanes - the 3rd eye fold to a good degree. ...the clip-ons are adjustable in 4 axles each and height is adjustable through an exchange to longer bolts and height spacers - that can also be use for length - I actually got that width while trying to figure out how comfortable to make them - I have them perfectly angled for my comfort - a tad down, close - barely not touching the tank at full lock - even though they start an 1 1/4" above the tree they end about even with the tree - since almost all pressure is directed on the bars as steering input only - the leverage is fine to get the job done. I think your handlebar has a great slant to it - looks very comfortable, and sturdy - a much better item than the old defunct CR item. EZ |

I think lane "sharing" is only 'legal' in California. Yeah, its not for the faint of heart, but go out of state and then have to sit in back of traffic at a light is VERY frustrating. Oh, and plenty of people will try and shut you down by crowding the lane (and plenty will give you room). Initiation to the ritual comes when you tag your first mirror! |

The reason I went to 3rd eye mirrors on the daily rider - good and cheap - lost about 7 of them to traffic so far - lol EZ |
