Hey Ez, I got a day off and I was really surprised at the enthusiasm still around for Buell's longest running model ever. Chicago traffic has taken its toll on my Blast, it pings and backfires in protest but has never let me down. It is really a great bike for anybody. Thanks for your help keeping the little guy alive! |

"The ignition i have access to is from a licensed harley dealership" I understood that from your first post, but it doesnt mean they'll warranty it. I really, really hope that I'm just the lucky one who had 2 bad SE modules and 99.9% of them are fine. Its a nice unit. I'd love to buy another one, but having bought 3 already, I'm not ready to spend $270 for something they wont warranty! |

Dan try Sea Foam down the carb throat to get the carbon off the interior and lessen the pinging a lot, several treatments - lol - the rest is easily taken care of via a tkv search. Or just replace das Boot - lol EZ (Message edited by ezblast on November 28, 2008) |

It isn't a problem unless it's +90 out. This cold weather now got rid of the pings and gave me a few more ponies. I don't know maybe just going faster because I'm freezing my ass off. |

Handlebar update: HD in Bloomington swapped out my bars yesterday. Lucky for me I didn't try it myself. They ran into a problem with my brake fluid line running into my windshield bracket. They had to disconnect, bleed the line, and reconnect going around the bracket (the tech used more confusing language, but I think I got the gist of it). I will post a couple of pics. So, far I love the superbike bars. It makes my Blast feel more like a motorcycle and less of a scooter. |

Ez, I would love to meet up with you guys at SLO Ride 5. I already signed up for the time off work. I am however having issues with my bike right now. It seemed to be running rough and it did do a pop or a backfire out the carb so I assumed the boot had gone bad. It has a little over 10,000 miles on it so I decided to replace the boot. I also picked up a used V&H pipe from Jpa from this board. So hey why not do all at the same time. So I rejetted, put in the shims, and also got rid of the charcoal canister. Oh and I put on the new Boot. So after cursing and stomping around the garage getting all this done, I get it all back together and it still runs rough. I seem to have to give it alot of throttle to start off and it runs fine accelerating, but when I let off the throttle or try to maintain a mellow speed or low rpm's it chugs or sputters. Looking at the manual more I decided to replace the Spark Plug. I got the NGK Iridium DCPR9EIX and when I pulled the old plug out it was pretty black. So I'm figuring cool that should be the fix to the problem but, Noooo! It still sputters and chugs at low rpm's. I checked the new plug and it too is black and sooty. So any ideas guys? |

Too rich go down in primary - V&H demands less than Jardine. Thats a beefy brace! EZ |

Ed, by the primary do you mean the low? I did the 45/175 combo. Also Erik O. recommended I take out the shims but I haven't done that yet. And what will I lose if I do take out the shims? |

Shims are fine - check and make sure the slide diaphragm has no holes or is torn or stretched out - I suspect not getting enough air - air screw how many turns out? What intake - you running modified at all? EZ |

Stock airbox. I turned the screw out about 2 and 3/4 turns. |

Dirty filter? not enough air - plugs should be tan to brown - no further with that jetting - really. EZ |

Just to clarify, I suggested taking the shims out to make it leaner and see how the problem responds. I dont see anything wrong with the jetting 45/175- 2 shims- 2 3/4 turns. What concerns me is that it had a running problem before the changes were made. The plug and evap canister were the first things that came to mind. Those are done. I know you guys will have other suggestions or perhaps had a similar problem and solved it. |

How dirty is that filter to not get enough air? EZ |

Hi Erik, I did what you recommended and re-checked the jets. They were correct. Ed the Air filter is a new K&N so it's still clean. Now Erik I know when I spoke to you once you mentioned that once the plug was fouled it's pretty hard to un-foul it. So should I need to replace the new Iridium Plug since it was black? Or is it safe to try to brush it clean? |

To Foul my regular Irridium plug - I was 5 sizes over on the main - and thats where it would foul - running on a 45 low till transition drowned her out - so as soon as this issue is taken care of - you should be golden. Is there too much packing in the V&H? Thats wild that its acting so rich - when reality says that normally it wouldn't be. Bad gas? EZ |
