Yhe only week link is the intake coupler which on a stock bike is just something to replace regularly - lol - every 5000 miles would be safe, otherwise just change the oil regularly and keep bolts tight and stuff adjusted right - and she'll keep going forever. EZ |

Hey guys, and gals, as the case may be. Ezblast, I have also been reading a lot of your posts..inspirational, for sure. With regards to the intake coupler, I'm surprised someone hasn't fabbed one up out of silicone, or something like that..have you heard of alternatives to the OEM version? |

Thumpe has the most durable set up - Dan is his name - he makes a nice custom boot set up - he tested it by hanging a 5lb weight off of it for about 5000 miles - it survived - but an ill tune can still blow a crack in one - lol - sells it on ebay or you can contact him for a slight discount at buellridersonline, com - he sells a nice line of stuff for the Blast and his bike is awesome - being a professional mechanic and engineer - his details are awesome. I think I got him beat on guts - he is a tad more conservative than me - lol - but he gets nothing but credit from me for his work - which is all very top notch and worth every penny - that coming from an accountant is high praise indeed. LIke any good ex-machinist now accountant - I'm good at putting together stuff and seeing if it blows up - if not - I keep riding it! - lol EZ |

Just wanted to drop in and say that this forum helped my decision in getting my first motorcycle! A 2003 Buell Blast with V&H exhaust and only ~1.5k miles on it Pretty happy with her so far! Experienced some backfire the other day and now she is dying on idle, but it should be covered with the dealerships 60 day in house warranty. If not, then I have no problem getting down and dirty and wrenching it myself! Previous ride was a Yamaha Vino 125, so this is a big step up Already put some saddle bags on her and can't wait to lay on the miles! }} |

As EZ says - replace the manifold coupler (das boot)...should fix those problems right away. |

Welcome!! Words of caution: If the dealership says the carb needs cleaning or rebuilding, RUN ! they have no idea what they are doing! It doesn't need either. If they want to charge you for anything WAIT and ask here first. At 1500 miles the bike is still brand new and should need nothing in the way of repairs (except maybe the boot). It may need to be rejetted, for the exhaust (which is a modification, not a repair). I hope you enjoy your Blast as much as we enjoy ours! |

Hello all new blast owner here, just wanted to introduce myself. Picked up an 02 blast with 3300 miles last week to keep me riding on an american bike till my 05 Sportster motor is rebuilt. I always wanted a blast to mess with and so far I can see it is a blank canvas. Thanks for all the posts on how to hop the Thumper motor up. |

Well, my Blast is no longer mine. A dying friend gave me a PC800 to go with my Concours and the Blast was having ethanol issues. I got it running again just in time for my buddy's wife to get her license. So thumper is now rolling under a beautiful woman who has learned to ride it like she stole it, which she basically did. She is keeping the faith and I sometimes visit, riding along with them. Roll on Thor. |

Hello... Just acquired a 2002 Blast that has been sitting since 2008 or so. 1200 original miles, stored in carport in PA for a while, and outside a barn in a lean-to for the past couple. Got her wiped down, and took the left pegs off to access trans cover, after sawing the OEM exhaust off at the headpipe divergent cone to access the "stuck" drain plug. Trans oil was like new. I have to refill it now that I have the plug back in and cover accessible. I put anti-seize on the T27 bolts and they may get replaced with hex head next time. New battery and the started cranked when I just tapped the button. Want to change the main oil before I try to fire it, and have to flush the tank too. Owner gave me a couple of new filters and a new petcock, so that's going on too. Here's hoping the carb "just works" without cleaning and wiring the port orifices. For a sum of $500, I think I got a good deal. Anyhow, I'll be browsing here for info. The bike came with a new drive belt, but the old one seems fine too. I probably got $250 in parts in the deal... Too bad it doesn't have 17" tires... Cheers, ~Ted |

Welcome! 17s would’ve been nice! OIL is tricky. If your not going to run it on the old oil (understandably) the only way to get all out is through the Allen key drain plug under case. Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when putting it back in as you WILL CRACKthe case if you overtighten. It doesn’t take much to overtighten it. The Blast takes 2.25 qts, max, if you drain it this way. It will show empty until it’s warm and full only when it’s hot. My advice is always to get it running BEFORE you do anything to it (anything!) and sort out the problems as they come up. Once it’s running good, then you can go Willy Nilly. Avoid taking the carb apart “to give it a good cleaning” or “just because”. Being that neglected it ‘might’ very well need it. But this is the number one thing that brings doom upon most people who do it, especially if it doesn’t need it (and it rarely does). There are lots of shortcuts as not needing to pull the pegs, etc. to change the trans oil. I’m just trying to save you time and the grief I’ve witnessed over the many years! |

appreciate it! Got the tank flushed and will carefully drain and refill main oil. Then its time to try firing after pulling the plug and spraying some marvel mystery oil or WD in there. I intend to do as little as possible before getting it running, and other than mild pitting on fork chrome that may nick seals, im leaving most of it alone...keep yall posted. |

Finished the fluid swap, and installed battery, pulled plug and sprayed WD, rotated piston via rear wheel a couple times, re-installed plug, and put tank on and fresh gas in... Voila!! She runs...albeit loud with chopped header. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=101023 32863165359&id=4809534&sfnsn=mo |

FWIW, I found a muffler replacement. Tractor Supply Company has a tractor muffler that's 1-5/8" inlet / outlet, and reasonably small diameter (5"?). It's this model: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/stanley- muffler-company-inlet-aluminized-muffler-fo-4?cm_v c=-10005 I'm going to get a 1-3/4" bent muffler pipe from AutoZone or similar, and attach to the header at the old flare location, and then weld a tab on for the front mount location, and attach this guy, braced to the rear mount. Man, Buell sure made it a PITA to get that rear bracket apart. Need to go buy a long handle single 90° allen key to get those dumb bolts out. A piece of all-thread will be going in there to solve this problem for the future. |

Update: the Buell headpipe is 1.5" OD NOT 1.625... Measured with calipers at seam by flare. The bent exhaust pipe I found will work, but needs adapters. Pics and part no.s tomorrow. |
