Bubs, Just what did the dealer do for you? Did they put in cams? |

Update: I guess praying to the Buell Gods or dancing around that tree did the trick, picked up a Black 2009 Blast last night. Now I'll have something to ride while the repairs are being done on the '05. Ride home was interesting, stock seat, stock exhaust and trying to keep it within "break-in" speeds... Thanks for all the good wishes - positive vibes I'm sure that went a long way. |

Swampy - They had replaced front and rear isolators, and the bike was riding fine for a week of careful riding and the intake boot went. They replaced the boot after a week and gave it back to me as it is. Vibrating like crazy, and they did not care. Basically just told me to take it like that. |

Have you called Buell Customer Service. Did they say anything? |

Bubs: There is nothing beyond your ability, get the manual and ask for advice like you have. In no time at all, you'll know how to fix your bike. Way back in the stone age, before internet, that's how I first taught myself how to work on cars. There is no big mystery, it's all mechanical, electrical and hydraulic - fairly basic. Hang in there and give it a go!!! |

I have access to a manual online, but it doesn't seem to help me figure this out. Yesterday I made one final adjustment to the primary chain before I put it away. My dad took it out while I was at school and commented that it seemed fine. I rode it, and it seems a bit better. It's seems that the primary chain may be the problem like I once thought, it's just a matter of getting the right adjustment. |

It's running pretty much mint now, did one final adjustment and now it seems to be going just fine. Filled up with some good gas and it's running great. Now, I am facing a tough predicament. Do I keep it? The only place I can order parts is 50 miles away, I have a guy that would like to buy it and the money would be very helpful to me. It is a great little bike but I don't know if I can make a 100 mile round trip every time I need something for it. |

Bubs, it's all what you make of it. If you can learn to work on it you won't need to worry about 100 mile trip. I like physical repair manuals, their easier to mark and tag, but then that's me. I think most parts you can order on line, someone correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, glad to hear you got your ride back!! Oh, and if you don't keep it, what would you get in it's place? Sooner or later everything needs a tweek, repair or upgrade, it's way more economical to do it yourself. |

At this point it isn't really a matter of maintenance, I rode the bike basically all summer and am ready for something new. I could use the money for the winter and then buy another bike in the spring, I would like an older Japanese bike. I've just got to decide before my registration expires, I'm going to ride it a bit and make my decision. |

I'd stick with the Blast if I were you. There are so many things that you can do to the bike to make it custom to the way you want it. Plus, parts from a 2009, more than likely work on a 2001 save a couple. You can always order the parts that you need from Badweb sponsors like Liberty, or Buell of Bloomington. This forum has some great folks on it, that have done pretty much everything with these bikes. But it sounds like you have already made up your mind. It really boil downs to do what's best for you. The Blast isn't for everyone, but neither are some of those crotch rockets, etc. I will make one more point though, the Blast is FAR easier to work on, than about 95% of the bikes out there. |

Bubs, I order my parts from Appleton, that is like a million miles away, but the cool thing is they get to my door step in about three days for less than if I had to go someplace(Where, I haven't a clue), get all the stupid looks, order them, wait for the call to come pick them up, get more stupid looks and then drive back home and put them on. The internet is my best friend. Ezblast orders parts from Chicago, which is at least two million miles away and he usually only has to wait less than a week, and he gets the added benefit of not getting any stupid looks either. Congrats on the new Blast Maggie! Are you rebuilding you old one? |

Bubs, unfortunately having a dealer so far away is a big problem for repairs. Having a dealer so far away that doesnt seem to care (sadly, not unusual when it comes to the Blast) is a bigger problem. As previously said, you'll not find a simpler bike, the size of the Blast, to work on. An older used Jap bike will be more complicated and may also suffer from the Used Bike Syndrome. You might also check to see if anyone will work on it or get parts. I understand your frustration. "Is this the last thing I fix or is this an omen of more to come?" Some bikes are high maintenance. The Blast isnt, but its only as reliable as the last person that worked on it If you've tired of it, then maybe its time (after a little more riding). Theres probably a dozen Harley and half dozen Buell dealers within a 50 mile radius from me, not to mention scores of other bike/parts shops. I mail/online order 95% of all parts. Its simply not time or cost effective to visit a shop. |

Maggie, Congrats on the new Blast. Now, repeat after me: "Hi, I'm Maggie and I'm a blastoholic"!!! "Perhaps turn it into a track day toy?" You are evil EZ. LOL! (wish I had one of those.....) |

"Hello, my name is Maggie Mae and I'm a blastoholic..." I had friends who tried to convince me to go with a different bike this time and I will admit I did look at some that were suggested, but I'm addicted to the fun I've had with this bike and not one of those others did a thing for me. Heck, ya'll know what a great machine this is, so I know there is no need to explain! As for the '05 - it is being dismantled to put the custom stuff on the '09 and then once my better half gets the valve job done on his Bandit he will get into the motor to see what's up. It will live again, I just don't know as what. I did see a little bit of an evil twinkle in my husbands eye... |

Great news Mags. I feared you would fail to find an '09. I sort of think I want a Blast of my own. I ride a lot more than my wife does[most every day to work]and I find myself wanting to ride her bike every chance I get. Maybe I will come up with one of those Rider's Edge leftovers next year. |

I think its a little hard to outgrow, they still put out everytime you take it out, working the corners faster and faster. Yes it is true, the Blast is very easy to maintain, and I have not been stranded with it, now the kids are a different story. |

What Chicago HD dealer do ya'll order from? I grew up in Chicago but have lived in Texas now for about 15 years. So now this is home. I even picked up on the country grammar. My girl hates when we visit Chicago and 10 mins later I loose the country grammar and speaking in fluent Chicago Slang. Ya lemmie git a hot dawg! |

Well, it seemed to be running fine, although I noticed today that there is a very, very faint grinding noise whenever you come off the throttle. What is this? |

Bubs: My bike makes all sorts of noises that worry me but seem to be OK (although the Magster's issues strike fear in my heart) An old H-D mechanic once told me that my 89 Sporty "had squeaks built into it." I think the same design was used for the Blast. |

Cool, it's just that my "What is this?" and Ez's "A bomb waiting to happen" fit together perfectly and worried me a bit. Bike is still running fine, it's a little whiny, presumably from the primary, but the Harley Shop service manager has offered to fix everything and anything that could have been messed up during that intake boot fix -- someone does care! |

I'm not saying its the dealers fault - sometimes you can be stuck with a brand new bad isolator - happened to me - all new parts involved on all 3 bikes - the middle bike - my toy - went just over a 1000 miles later - Scott, and the daily driver that gets way more abuse in terms of bumps, etc. are still fine as when new - go figure - replaced it with the stouter tuber one - well see how that works out - twice when buying back up isolators - I got ones dated over a year old and the rubber on them was cracked in places - I threw them away without even bothering to try them - f2ck2ng rubber - boots and isolators - like no ones heard of what modern synthetics are capable of - must be a carry over HD tradition - lol EZ |

IDIOT DRIVERS!!! Yesterday on my way home already in my 2 lane no center strip neighborhood with more curves than a sports illustrated calender. I put on my left turn signal kicked down from 3rd to 2nd and oops to 1st so I had to slow down even more to avoid locking the rear tire when I let out the clutch. Pick-up truck is about 50 feet away coming in my direction I calculate I have way enough time to turn, I start to release the clutch and catch a white car in my left mirror! I turn my head and catch a white BMW convertible top down and 2 blonde teenage girls laughing, and passing me on the left swerving back just in time to miss the pick up coming toward me. I was totally taken by her reckless driving that I turned left after the pickup then realized I should have given chase to tell her father about what she had done but by the time I turned around I couldn't find her. After getting home I just pictured me turning in front of her getting hit then getting run over by the pick up! Its not a huge neighborhood so I will be seeing her again. Daddy will be getting a visit from me! |

I suspect that if you can afford one of those bikes...reliability would be of little consequence...mankiller toys are supposed to be broken and improved and broken and improved ad infinum. Psst!!! A turbo 'Busa would eat it for lunch in a straight line and use the bones for a toothpick....and be reliable. (Message edited by fast1075 on October 24, 2008) |
