That is funny because I have been to that website before, but I forgot that the AM63 is in the Scooter Tire section! Yep, that looks like they have the best price. |

When I get them from Chaparral, I have to pay $7 for shipping because I live three quarters away across the country! Jugallo94 has two rear Vyper Strykes sitting at my house waiting to go on, the one he ordered from Dennis Kirk was dropshipped the next day for regular price and the Chapparral came more than a week later after being on backorder for almost a month! |

What are my options for a rear tire? What have you all found to be the best for the blast. And where did you purchase them? Thanks in advance. |

Medic This has been discussed at great length within this section. It depends on what you want the tires to do and your riding style. My best advice to you is to do a search and or just look through the archives of this area. At the very least let us know what is important in a tire you you so we are better able to recommend something to you. Welcome to the Thumper Forum!! |

If your an aggressive rider I'd go with the Avon VyperStrykes AM63 at 140/70-16 and modify the shock mounting tab or you could go stock size so you don't have to modify anything (but it's an easy mod plus the 140/70 makes the bike A LOT MORE STABLE at speed and in corners). I've only put 350 miles on mine so far but I'm in love thanks to the changes in the agility and control of the bike. The Pirelli MT75's are also pretty sticky, cheaply priced for the quality and an overall good tire. There is some debate about the short lifespan though (some ppl have squeezed out 4,ooo miles+) Avon Roadrider AM26's are another less tested choice that has just come out. They're expensive but from early reviews have a good lifespan and are also V rated if that matters for you (IMHO P rated is plenty on the Blast) Good places to compare & shop: American Moto Tire Chaparral Dennis Kirk Those are the choices I was looking at before I picked the AM63's. I'm sure there are a bunch of others but from my reading those best suited my needs and style. Hope it helps. |

"Good places to compare & shop:" Just an FYI, I tried to find Avons 140/70/16 and 110/70/16 locally and everyone said they (Avon) were back ordered. American Moto Tire was also out of stock. But I found them at Chaparral for $114 and shipped free. It only took 4 days (including Christmas) to get here. Boy, what a nice upgrade. |

agreed. great upgrade. avon likely isn't backordered but parts unlimited (main wholesaler to dealers) may be. |

True true... The bike def feels more confident now. The front requires a bit more input but the outcome is a more stable feel. I love the way they keep wanting to lean over almost like their asking for more. The rear almost feels like it tracks out in turns more than before but its very predictable. happy happy |

Anybody feel up to taking some measurements of the Vyper Stryke 140/70 rear? I'm trying to gather info on the actual shape of various tires when mounted - see the "Wider Wheels" thread in this forum for info on which measurements are needed. |

I did a measurement - remember - here's a copy from a 1/2 used Pirelli vs 100 mile Viperstrike Ok - I did a rough measure - v vs p - 128.78/121.28 rr and 105.14/102.60fr and clearance from swing arm to tire is 0.309. Then your going to love the Avon! ez |

Yes, I remembered that post, and I assumed you'd measured the 128.8mm width with the same technique I was using (or close enough), but what I don't have is the distance from edge to edge across the face of the tire (see "1-2-3-4" graphic in "wider wheels" thread). The trouble is that that distance gets shorter as the tire wears, so it would need to come from a new tire to get an accurate comparison. The swingarm clearance measurement is useful (gotta have clearance!), but without some other measurements it doesn't reveal the profile of the tread area. Also, it's a tricky thing to measure consistently - especially with different people doing the measuring, and on different swingarms that may or may not have been "clearance enhanced" with a big frakkin' hammer! and yes, I AM a BSG fan! |

Ed, did you look at the measurement technique in the "wider wheels" thread? The 128.78mm doesn't tell the full story - the other measurement is needed as well. ...unfortunately, that other measurement needs to come from a new tire - it decreases as the tire wears. Anybody out there with a new or low mileage viper strike in the 140/70 size? Also, a pic showing straightedge from sprocket to tangent point on tire would be nice - look in Michelin thread for an example. (Message edited by berkshire on May 15, 2008) |

Does anyone know what's up with the Avons? Chapparrel canceled my back order after almost 90 days because they have no idea when the rears will become available? Thanks for the help! |

could some one with the am63 tires post some picks. i would love to see a set on a blast. will the 140-70-16 work with the stock rear "hugger" fender on? how close does this come to the swing arm (picks if possible).. many thanks aaron |

Aanomy, Here are some pictures of one of Ezblasts Blasts with the larger Avon tires on them. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/217609.html?1154281015 And yes, the rear hugger fits just fine, but the shock absorber lower mounting tab has to be adjusted so it is clear of the tire. The adjustment can be performed with the help of a large hammer. |

my bike currently has the avon 51s and 52s i believe,, they are getting worn, front 1/2 way, rear almost touching wear bars.. the rear wanted to wash out cornering in the rain the other day.. had to drag boot to keep her up. does the am 63's provide more grip than the 51-52 combo? wet? dry? if not any other tyre recommendations would be greatly appreciated. will probably stick with stock size as i enjoy the twisties.. |

my 63 experience is with the big ones but yes they provide better grip wet or dry but especially cold, I have ridden through the past 2 winters, the first on 1-2 month old 51/52's this last winter on 6 month old 63's and there is no question in my mind I prefer'd the 63's even past the wear bar I had none of the dancing around that the 51/52 have when cold. Plus I got nearly 9K miles on my 63 rear, front will likely need replacing at 13-14K. As for size I have no issues with running the big tires in the twisties and CT isn't exactly known for straight roads (most are just paved cow paths lined with 200 year old rock walls) the bigger rear makes turn in a bit quicker but a bit more stable once you are leaned over IMO. My only slippery wet riding happens on a steep uphill offcamber right hander that I take too tight and hit the painted stripe next to the shoulder... otherwise I haven't had any issues with the 63's though I am glad to have a new rear |

Pirelli's sticky, wear quickly. Avons not as sticky (when cold), better for tread mileage. |

I have always run the Track day 30.5 F&R, this will not promote long life, but it aids cornering and handling. EZ |

I'm getting a little over 3500 which is 1500 more than the Pirelli gave me, however, as noted above - I run a lower pressure than the recommended to improve my fun factor - lol - don't mix size combos, it will screw with your handling. The oversize speed up handling imput - so it depends how you feel about your bikes current handling ability - I like them a lot. EZ |

EZ I'm just using them for the street i'm looking to get long life out of them! But lol the way i drive i'll uses them up!! You run the same pressures for the street? |

Be gentle on downshifts. With the light weight and the strong compression of the Thumper engine, downshifts tend to skid the rear a little (speeding up the wear). I loved the sound of mine when doing hard downshifts but I quickly noticed that is sure wore the rear out fast. |

Yuppers - I figure I loose almost a quarter of their life compared to other folks, but its worth it to me - I live in the land of twisties - it behooves me to take full advantage of that - lol - the average I've seen through the boards is 4000 to 5000+ EZ |
