Yes; the bike will die any time the clutch is let out if the kick stand is down. If the stand is up; it runs fine. It does seem like the neutral switch isn't in the loop, but the neutral light is functioning properly. I'm going to check over the wiring, and see if all the connections are tight. If everything looks good, I'll try bypassing the Neutral switch, and see what effect that has. |

Thanks for the part number. You have a book or an online resource we could all use? I did precisely what you suggested. I got it cold.. and it was still all the way out. Hooking it up and turning the key did nothing. I cleaned everything.. basically I did what the book suggested. Seems to run fine warm now. When the guy sold it to me "its real cold blooded" he says "and it won't run with the kick-stand down.. so that's kind of a pain". But Since he rode it over to my house for me to check it out.. it was already warm.. So I didn't get a chance to see it run cold. I've got it tuned up nice now.. save the auto enrich. once it gets warm, it doesn't even skip. Only oddity is that "mist" or exhaust that shoots out the intake. But.. As its a cheap bike, and its running fine. I'll probably not worry about it. Since we bought this one.. about a dozen newer ones have popped up for sale. If she like it, maybe we'll get something newer. I'll be snooping around for any info on the TPS adjustment. If needed.. etc.. I'll be ordering up some security fastener bits either way. running into too many lately. I too will check out my neutral wiring. (Message edited by dingosm8 on October 12, 2008) |

Dingo, check your primary fuel jet, remove it, spray some carb cleaner through it, run a wire through the center part and the side holes, spray some more carb cleaner through it, then(and this is improtant) record the number some where and if it is not a 48 priamary fuel jet, go to any HD Bike shop and ask for one for a CV carb, put it in and then try it again with some fresh gas. The answer here is to just throw some more fuel at it! |

Don't try to reset the TPS. It's fine unless something came loose. If the autoenricher is all the way out even cold, then it is definitely toast. If it runs well warm, then the autoenrich should fix your cold problem. Forgot to mention--that huff, especially when you turn it off, is fairly normal. thanks. yea the auto enrich is toast. I read up on the tps (thanks knowledge vault) and it agreed with you. I got some starter fluid and confirmed (pretty much) that I dont have an intake leak. A squirt of starter and a bit of throttle till its a touch warm and it idles away fine. Its not ridable right now (broke off the brake handle) but soon as my parts come in I can test if the carb will actually pull. I get backfiring out the carb when cold occasionally. Based on my buell experience.. I would say its fair normal. Would y'all agree? |

cool. I had it turned out a bit more and felt I was getting hesitation so I turned it back to where it is now. I've still got the air box apart.. so that may be contributing to it running a bit odd motorcycles are sensitive to that stuff. But its not going together till I get my new connecting tube. The one I have is "good" (read not leaking yet) but its got some deep cracks starting on the inside. Like I said. Need to get it on the road to make sure my carb is running right. Been more than a few times, I've had a car running nice smooth and reving nice to have it completely fail on the road. I've always loved bike bandit for aftermarket parts. But its taking them a while to get parts from harley.. 1/4 the price .. granted. But still been 2 weeks and counting. |

I got a question.. If its not taboo to discuss with sponsors around and all. Where do you folk get your parts? I've never owned a buell or HD before, now I find myself owning 2. The local dealer is rediculous. Like I mentioned before 45 dollars for the manifold coupler (27443-00Y) MSRP is 7.95 or something. I just ordered a couple parts (including 27443-00Y as bikebandit.com is taking forever) from latus HD in oregon. Only charged me 10 for the coupler and msrp for the enrichener. More-so.. I've found that even buell parts places don't have a good assortment of blast parts. Any great sources out there that might be a little harder to find than "buell parts" googles get ya? I've got a list of parts numbers now (no exploded diagram but a list of names numbers and prices). ** I'll edit this away if it is indeed taboo |

If you have the part number - Chicago HD internet sales gives you 20% off - there is the wait, however, at that savings I usually don't mind. EZ |

BADWEB SPONSORS: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/17143.html Please try to use them as they keep Badweb alive. Some do give discounts and some will give a 'Badweb discount' if you ask for it. Buy a parts book. Worth its weight in gold! |

My local H-D shop/Buell shop keeps Blast basics in stock, including the boot and oil filters. Boot is only $10 and sometimes less. Shenandoah H-D in Staunton, Va will ship to you. So will the sponsors here. Why pay more? (Message edited by Rainman on October 13, 2008) |

"Library catalog"? The Parts Catalog makes an excellent assembly guide, much faster than searching through the manual. It also gives you the ability to double check the parts you're getting, check availability (limited) and price, and order quickly and easily online (often with a discount). Most dealers have very little respect or time for the Blast. Its best to be informed, especially if you're doing your own work. |

the library catalog. it came with my xb.. Rather than a link to a shop manual like came with my yamaha. They give me a catalog of all the manuals and catalogs they have for sale. YEa.. they are buell-tastic at the dealer. I may be misinformed. But the advertising for the 08xb I believe said "self zeroing TPS to save time and money" But the mech charged me to zero it. Its not even in my service interval list. |

"will ship to you. So will the sponsors here. Why pay more? " You'll find that almost every place will ship to hawaii. they just charge 3 or 4 times more than shipping or only offer fedex overnight as some sort of discouragement. I don't understand why. For usps. Its usually not even a dollar difference to ship out here.. unless its heavy or over sized. |

I've found the best way to make your dealer happy is to ask for a part number. You can make him even happier if you say, "I need a part for my Buell." Pause, and just as you are about to see him grumble, say, "the part number is ..." |

Yea.. that sounds like the way I'm going to swing it. There's one guy at the parts desk who's real cool. One's probably had major head trauma, takes him 10 times to understand what you want and 20 minutes to find the right parts diagram and the other is a total holster. The cool guy gave me a tour of the executive offices.. and of the cool one off bikes the owner has up there. A 5 cylinder (inline) kawasaki, an old ranger and some other interesting or one off bikes. My salesman was also pretty darn cool when buying the XB. Put the buell BLAST back together and rode it round the block (about 12 miles). Managed not to crash it this time (wore some old combat boots with the heel ground down) Other than my legs almost falling asleep and the suspension bottoming out a lot, it rode real nice. Forgot how reactive a light weight bike with a small engine could be. It has no inertia keeping it from bouncing around the lane wherever I want it. So quick to move. I wish I was shorter, I'd pick up one of those. Well powerful enough for my taste. In other news. there's a local genius that has a 2007 Blast! in the paper for 6000 dollars. Only 200 miles.. take over payments or 6k. |

You chould call and offer $3000, which is probably about what it's worth. Worked for a bank for a little while once in the loan department. Some auto dealer in Fairbanks talked someone into getting a 2 year old Saturn for only $1500 more than a brand new one. The loan was denied. |

I dont know where to post this but here goes-Eagles Nest Harley Davidson/Buell-in Lathrop California SUX! I've spent the last 3 weeks trying to get a RECALL on my bike taken care of. 2 trips to the shop,3-5 calls to the shop, 3 calls to Buell Customer Service later and I'm still waiting for them to get the part-a part they said was out of stock, had problems manufacturing, could take at least 2 weeks maybe longer. But when I call Buell Customer Service they say "we have those in stock we sent 6 of em to Eagles Nest 3weeks ago, If they used those and need to order more they'll have em in a couple days" WTF?!?! Screw Eagles Nest. I'm goin to another shop. |

Most dealers of most vehicles are horrible. But i think harley lets its mindless throngs of idiotic fans go to its head. they don't care about losing repeat business.. because they're selling "harley-davidson" not motorcycles. It doesn't take a scientist to recognize the difference between the folk shopping the yammy bimmer dealership and the folk at the harley dealership.. The typical harley mystique: Pretend (if need be) that you're mindless trailer trash for 1 day a week. How hard do you have to work to keep them satisfied? I pity MV and Buell their relationship with HD. THere are quite exceptional cases. But they're buried under the human garbage that are stealerships. |

SO.. that lil' thumper is thumpin along beautifully now. They're a little unstable at speed on grooved pavement at 65 or so eh? Found out why my 2001 blast has 2400 miles. It was sold in 2005, still low miles. But its not quite as crazy. I stated in another thread that the local buell dealer has 4 years of ulysses in the showroom. Still claims to be one of the best buell dealers in the country numbers wise. Its originally from Hawaii.. so.. its not a riders edge course (hawaii says has to be 250 to do riders course) I put some sea foam in the gas and it seems to have made it start a little better after a couple rides. The auto enrichener is on back order from big harley unfortunately. But like I said its going. Oh.. I forgot .. some of you have winter coming up. Oh.. the days of having to mothball the bike for the winter. No such thing out here at 21N Bike bandit came through the day after I was complaining it was taking for-ever. (they have an ama discount you know) |
