yea man my real problem was heroin, i stopped drinking at the same time because i knew i had to stop everything. one drink turns into seven and then once i was drunk i would go and get high. i did that for about 4 years man but this past year i got my life back on track. riding my bike is good therapy. thanks though Danko, you can do it man i know its tough being surrounded by it but you gota focus on yourself. your the only one who can truly help you. i dont mean to preach man but thank you and good luck. |

The old adage from the wisest movie I ever watched - "Skin Deep" with John Ritter - To make your life better - You have to get rid of your vices to get to your virtues and you have to want to do that for it to work - the movie also well answers the tale of the frog and the scorpion. Quitting smoking was difficult for me - unlike drinking where the hangovers helped convince - in smoking - I had to say no to myself repeatedly. There's other stuff in the flick also and it is actually quite funny as well - especially the scenes with the ex-girlfriend and the flaming piano - lol, however, it was its depth that really captured my respect. FWIW: If a few bad hangovers (or many repeated hangovers) were all it took, then many 'problem drinkers' would just stop drinking tomorrow. But if you're truly an alcoholic, that would be like stopping a freight train with a 2 x 4. Unfortunately it isnt that simple. Its like trying to explain to someone why you continue to ride a motorcycle, when the risk is great, you've been down a few times, including a lengthy stay in the hospital. Doesnt make any sense to most people (except other motorcyclists). Good luck to you both. At 24, quitting anything forever is very difficult. But you can quit "One day at a time". |

Its never easy, just a part of life. Best therapy I know is riding - "One day at a time" and just an old Reaganism I repeat way too often to my self - "Just say no" covers a good majority of my philosophy - not all of it though - lol EZ |

"Reaganism" LOL!!! THAT WAS BEFORE OUR TIME!!! Seriously though, many thanks for the great words. Erik hit it right on, an addiction is tough stuff and those that haven't experienced it really don't understand. I like the new stop smoking ads that are being run, the ones that show a car backing up over a 250R Ninja (j/k it's actually a mailbox) and the voice over saying something to the point of "If you can learn to drive without smoking then you can learn to do anything with out smoking." They're funny and totally true... Thankfully, we have the benefit of falling head over heel's (pardon the expression, everyone please keep the shiny side up and the rubber down!) for motorcycling and have a such an awesome group to share it with! ... Geez, that got pretty deep.. Does anyone have a good riding story? Let's get this back up and on topic, I had a stop light conversation with a guy on a v-rod today, I pissed him off when I had a brain fart and called his bike a V-Max, thought he was gonna shoot me... The whole time he was oogling my truck, talking about how he had one just like it but without the 4-speed manual and with Edelbrock heads (actually a nice set up for a 4X4 BTW, in case you're taking notes) and I was thinking "That big-twin is really sweet, but I bet I could provide evidence for the tail whipping that occurred once in the Badweb if we were on the way down the hill from Mt. Charleston." TALK ABOUT AN ADDICTION!!!! LOL!!! |

Well, keeping things back on topic, This past Monday on my commute home from work, I was on my favorite back road stretch behind a new Mercedes CLK 5.5 AMG convertible and we were both stuck behind some Ford minivan going slower than the posted limit. Thankfully the van turned off right before a good twisty stretch. The AMG dropped the hammer and I took off right behind him. We were blasting (no pun intended) down the road through the turns and straights and I was right behind him the whole way. I was working the old Buell just to keep up but she kept up fine. Our fun ended when we eventually caught up to traffic but the driver nodded to me in his rear-view mirror and gave me a thumbs up for keeping up with him. It's great when you come across another cool driver! I smiled and nodded back to him. Made my commute a load of fun! On a side note, MAN those CLK AMG's are SWEET! That car stayed flat and composed more than any other car I've witnessed. It's great to see them driven by someone who appreciates what his money bought ($87k) and isn't afraid to open it up. |

Not exactly a Blasting story. Last night, I got on my bicycle for a ride around the neighborhood. I like to take my dog out for a run and let him run beside me. So, here's the scenario. I'd had one drink about 45 minutes before. I unchained the dog, got on my bike, wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and flip-flops. Can you see where this is going? I turn left out of my driveway. It's down hill, so I put it in high gear to get going as fast as I could. My dog is ahead of me in the grass on the right, probably 20 feet off the road and about 15 feet ahead of me. I'm getting up a good head of steam, and come to the right curve. My dog suddenly remembers he has a friend across the street in the curve. He goes in front of me, and slows down. I run right over him! Front tire turns around completely, dumping me off on the asphalt. First thing I noticed was that my head hurt. That's the moment I decided to get a bicycle helmet. I picked up the bike and managed to bend a few things straight enough so I could hobble home for a block or so. I went inside the house and showed everybody my trophies. Right ankle missing a chunk of flesh, right knee scraped, road rash on the inside of my right elbow and on the back of my right shoulder. Last but not least, a lump just in front of my right temple about 1" x 3". I figured I'd be fine, until I looked at my hand and couldn't see all my fingers. To be on the safe side, I dialed 911. By the time the ambulance showed up, I had a hard time discerning the 3 vehicles parked in my front driveway. I was having a full-on migraine worse than I'd ever had before. In the ambulance, I found anything I tried to say became a very difficult tongue twister. I had to read at kindergarten speed to understand the release forms! By the time treatment came, those symptoms started to subside. Despite the 1 gram of Tylenol, the headache that followed was hard to ignore. They took pictures of my brain, and found nothing out of the ordinary. Lesson learned: Wear your helmet and at least good shoes, even when you're just biking around the neighborhood with your dog. |

I just was reading over a few things as I haven't been at the site for a bit ( been riding when the riding is good...winters a coming!!) and noticed a couple of things: 1) Swampys going to be a grampa..and have a new daughter in law!! CONGRATS SWAMPY and Big Kid! 2) There seems to be a lot of new names popping up on the boards. Which means the Blast (and motorcycles) and gaining popularity!! I'm sure I'll be on more when it starts snowing but I plan on riding till then. Quick story: I was at a stop light when a Ducati Monster and a Triumph Speed Triple pull in the the lane next to me... Ducati- Nice bike , what year? Me- Thanks, you too...it's 2003. Triumph- 500, right? Me- yeah. Ducati- Do you go to the club meets? Me - What meets? Ducati- Ducs Unlimited. Me- huh? This is a Buell Blast (looks of confusion on both their faces) Ducati- Looks good! Me- Thanks! Light turns green, they speed off a at a billion MPH. I thought it was funny cause the Blast looks so good, it can be mistaken for a Ducati!!! |

When I got my Blast, and it had those big ol' stickers that said "Buell Blast" on them, twice I got asked, "is that a Honda?" I pulled of the stickers, and now I've been asked "is that a BMW" or "is that a Ducati?" |

Update on my bike ride: My skull did crack. There's now bruising around my right eye, and when I chew, I feel sharp pain in my face going from just above my nose on back into my cheek. |

I'm really surprised you havent suffered more from the trauma. When you hit 40, things happen and you just dont bounce back like you used too. Take care. |

Back when the trains started to crack 40MPH all the scientists of the day thought that you might die because you body couldn't take the stresses of high speed travel. Get well quick no mater how fast you are going! |

Let me tell you about it. Last night, I took a shower. I didn't even get soap on the sores, but I had to take some really good pain pills just to sleep. My head hurts frequently. If I'm up and around for more than 20 minutes or so, I start feeling woozy, dizzy, and just plain crappy. I have to chew very gently because my face hurts. When I was a teenager, I took much worse dumps off my bicycle, and have been fine. I never even had a broken bone until I was in my 30s. I should take pictures! Where's that digital camera ... Oh--and I think the dog was laughing at me. (Message edited by reuel on September 13, 2008) |

Meclizine HCL 25mg-non drowzy Dramamine, but much cheaper. Take more than 25mg and it may make you drowsy though. Compatible with most drugs (but ask your doctor/pharmacist) and you can take it as long as you need too (for dizziness). |

Going on my first Dealership ride in years - for a good cause, and it is supposed to consist of area back-roads - so no falling asleep on the freeway from boredom. This next saturday - Devil Mountain in Pittsburg, Ca - a nice little dealership that is pretty pro-Buell as well - at least thats how they make you feel, and they do have 2 Buell mechanics, and 5 Buells on the floor - which is cool for picking brains, or for traveling friends - in case my garage doesn't have it as well type of thing, plus a Kragen and Cycle Gear 2 Blocks away - lol - have had one nice little 30 mile loop so far, and Mt. Diablo State park at 6 bucks an entrance - looking for others that may connect or alternate from - at the same time trying to learn these small rural cities as well. Had my first part vibrate loose yesterday! Went out this morning to ride to work, stepped on the shifter and it just kept going. Freaked me out! Figured out how to tighten it, put it back in place, tightened it and she's good as new. Man, I love this bike - wish I could just make it "bigger" so I fit better. |

Ditch those "baby apes" for a set of superbike bars and it will feel like a much bigger bike. Add a Corbin seat and its even better. Add the 140 rear tire and better still. Seriously, the bars make a huge difference. Transforms the Blast from scooter to motorcycle. Ventura rack looks good! |

I had a weird dream a few nights ago... I don't remember anything except this one part where there was a rather nice looking and very shiny RED Blast parked next to my yellow one, and somebody said, "don't you remember? it came with the other one.", like it was a two-for-one deal or something, so I had TWO P3's! I'm just going out to look in the garage and driveway now... |

Sounds like a project! You'd have to set up some sort of linkage so they share throttle, clutch, brakes, etc. A little math to calculate the angle for the linkage for steering, and maybe enough of a spread so 3 people can sit side by side with the person in the middle steering. We all know who has two P3s on this board, don't we? |
