The website indicates that the Corbin Gunfighter seat will fit 2000-2002 Blasts. I called them and was told that there is something different about the 2003-2004 models. I got the impression that he wanted me to find out if the seats were interchangeable and let him know so they could update their website....uh?

Corbin customer service and fitment issues notwithstanding, I don't see many real alternatives out there as I would rather not have to ship the seat somewhere to have it modified.

The wife has finally started riding her bike but the "sore butt syndrome" is killing the fun for her and limiting our trips to 30-40 miles.

Anyone know if a 2002 Blast seat is interchangeable with a 2004 seat? If so...the Corbin should work.

Thanks

Brad

Thanks EZ. Erik should give you a new Blast in return for all you have done to support the model and help owners and potential owners.

It's down to trying the $379 Corbin seat or getting her a new bike...it's that much of a problem for her. She's really not ready to go to another bike yet...need to keep her on this one and keep her happy so she will ride more and gain some skills.

Thanks

If you check the links section there are a few other alternatives - my best recommendation would be to spend about 150+ at Sargents and have them customize the seat for you - (if she wants to stay riding instead of waiting for the seat, pic up a used one at Ebay cheap and send that to Sargents instead). Even though I have a Corbin and recommend it, it is a custom leather seat and takes about 600 miles just to break one in (about the same amount of time for a stock one to feel a bit better also - lol) - I hear the Sargents modified seats are pretty comfy also - though that is second hand. Bill Myers also makes a T.O.L. seat, but I hear it makes the Corbin price look cheap - lol - all the folks I mentioned have links in the links to stuff you cant find here section. Hope that Helps!

I attempted to order a seat online from Corbin. They emailed me and told me that their seat won't fit the 2004 Blast and they canceled the order on their own initiative. I guess I should have lied and told them it was for a 2002 model year.

I guess if I tell them that I want one anyway and it doesn't fit for some reason, they will not allow me to return it. I appreciate someone checking the order and noticing a discrepancy, but gee......

You'd think a company as big and well known as Corbin would be able to talk to Buell and find out if they made any changes to the `03 and `04 model year seat design.

The only explanation that I can see is that Corbin is planning to discontinue that seat... Maybe they are coming out with a new one that fits better and they want you to buy that one instead in a month or so...

Or.... They cut back on staff due to the economy and now are short handed -- and employing mostly idiots they don't have to pay alot -- and those idiots are too lazy to update the model fitment guides, and some intern is just canceling every order that doesn't quite match up because he/she thinks their little book is smarter than the customers.

Sadly the second option is probably the case.

Order it from our sponsor American Sport Bike - get a BADWEB discount for a seat that would cost the same as the Corbin folks themselves, and save money while supporting or sponsors
I rarely get to say good about them, but they are a great group, all very enthusiastic about Buells, and willing to help out with information as well.

Hi everyone,
I'm also considering the Corbin seat because I'm not happy with the comfort nor the looks of the stock seat.
I already have the Crossroads handlebars and the custom rearset controls are on their way. Any comments from somebody with the same accesories? I'm 5'10 and weigh 173lb. Thanks.

Corbin just shipped a seatr for my wife's 02 blast, so it seems they are not getting out of the blast biz . . . . the fit at the rear is awful, as I expected from this part of the board, but she likes it a great deal already . . . . .. . get'
s her about 1.5 - 2 inches higher from the pegs, which is good -- the stock seat is just way to soft, IMO

I did see that price on the American Sport Bike webite, but I just figured it was an old price list they hadnt updated.
When I bought my Corbin for the FL it was listed at $349 (hellova deal) but when I called to custom order it, they told me the price was $550 because they were losing money at $349.
I wonder if they are clearing out old stock (discontinue?), changed the cover material or just realized that Blast owners were not going to pay $350+ for a seat on a 'cheap'bike.

Photos I saw of a Corbin gunfighter on a Blast showed that the back of their seat sits up a bit and doesn't have the right curve to it to match the curve of the back fender.

Shave underseat nubs just before the fastner, drill a hole for the side nubs of Body to go into the seat, and use a bolt to fasten seat with lock washer - security and it cinches the seat down.

Yes, some(many) of the Corbins dont fit the Blast perfectly.
I just shimmed my tail section up and it fits like a glove (no need for bolting it down). Also fits the stock seat better.
The Corbin is still much, much, much, better than a stock seat.

It also should be noted that any Blast that has been down probably has a tweaked tail section and the Corbin wont conform to tail piece fit variances as easily as the Stocker does.

I had to fiberglass a nut onto the passenger end of the seat. then I drilled a hole through the storage area and ran a bolt into the nut. It works great. It pulls the rear of the seat down tight for a perfect fit.

While you're at it, work on positioning the seat front to rear and side to side for an even better fit. My seat fit a bit to one side and it bugged me, so I fixed it.

You'll need to enlarge the hole in the frame for the latch pin to allow for adjustability. Once you have it positioned right, you can mark it and weld it back up so there's no room for movement, or just bolt it down tight.

Please check your bolts. I was riding around and my bolt for the front fell out. Fortunately I had the bolt in the rear that held the seat in place.

I'll get some pics if you folks want them.

I epoxy'd a screw in 1/4 20 bolt into the end of my seat and they drilled a hole into the bottom of the tray. It looks fine

Well, a pic would just be of a stock tall Blast seat.
We needed a much firmer seat to race on and most tall seats are very soft. The low is better, but too low with high rear sets.
First the cover has to be carefully removed prying out the staples (I used a utility knife to pry them out as it slipped easily under the staples).
I took a tall seat, gutted the middle out of it (with a saw), stuffed it with commercial carpet padding, compressed the remaining seat foam with duck tape (to hold the padding in place and to return it to its desired shape) and layered the top with one more slice of padding. Then the original cover was stapled back on, just like factory.(The stapler was an Arrow stapler found at Home Depot-1/4" staples).
I find its much more comfortable, but more importantly, it gives the rider the ability to move around whereas the soft seat just sucked the rider into it (most sport or race bikes have thin layer of padding for a seat).
Pretty simple using just what I had around.
Other methods of de stuffing or re padding could be used and there are better tools to cut the foam available as well as better foam. Since the Blast cover doesnt have any visible seams and stretches well, it makes it easy to recover as long as sticking to the general lines of the old seat. A decent sewing machine can be used to sew your own cover. My Singer (for home use) is 40+ years old and although I havent done any seat covers, I do know it will sew leather or naugahyde easily (you just have to find the thread and needles). Hand sewing takes too much patience for me.
At least one other Badweb Blaster has modified his own seat with several more going the custom Sargent or Corbin route (dont remember who).

Ok, time for another seat question. While I really like my Corbin, my sweety doesn't. If you look at the pictures of EZ's above you can see that instead of being level it slopes down by about 1.5" over the passenger area.

So, anybody ride 2 up on the stock low seat? It looks better than the Corbin for the passenger . Ideally it would be comfortable for 100 mile trips. Since I don't have a stock seat to play with, changing involves getting something new and the stock is way cheaper than a custom Corbin.

Getting a new seat and then changing to stiffer foam is very do-able. Perhaps that would be a good time to do some fancy leather cover to show it off a bit.

Thanks

Paul

Low is fine for a passenger. Same as a tall seat, unless your passenger is really big, then you cant move up to give them more room on the low seat!

I gave up and bit the bullet...new Corbin seat is now on order...I have had it with the stock seats...especially since I put on the rearsets...the BAD part is how long it will take to get the seat made. (they don't stock Blast seats)...
