She's beautiful - I'm sure your already gathering up rock salt and shinning up the 12 gauge to greet suitors at the door.

I don't understand how the hell to adjust the primary chain. Someone want to give a step-by-step walkthrough?

ride the bike for a half hour, then on level ground with the bike running, with two adjustable wrenches loosen the primary adjuster until you hear a change in sound, then tighten till sound disappears, then tighten lock nut while keeping adjuster nut at the same setting - this is called the sound method.

Welcome!

I appreciate the quick reply. One thing is that I am completely clueless how to even begin. Is the primary cover on the right side?

There's a large, out-of-place looking bolt with a locking nut under the left (as your sitting on the bike) under-side of the engine. It almost looks like a deranged drain-plug. That's the one you want.

You can do the book method and torque it to proper spec, if you're not comfortable using the ear method. I did mine without a torque wrench by using a trigger-pull scale (could use a fishing scale aka "de-liar" in a pinch) and figuring out how much pull I needed to put on the end of the wrench I was using. Known length..known force applied = known torque. I believe the proper torque specs and some directions are in the FAQ's as well.

The Book method is erroneous and proven to be too tight - fact.

LOL!!! I couldn'tve put it better myself!!! Don't worry Jake, I'm almost convinced that there is nothing that an avid d-i-y'er couldn't do to maintain a Blast. The primary adj is EASY!!! There are quite a few examples on that matter in the Knowledge Vault.

... And many congratulations Indy!!! You're braver than I am with four wee-ones about. My wife and I take turns with my in-laws, caring for my nephew (4 months old) and as much as I like the youngin, sometimes it's sure nice to give him back to his grandparents at the end of a few days, LOL!

Seriously, I'm a mechanical 'tard and I not only did it, but I didn't break anything. Oh sure, I got paranoid for awhile and every little squeak had me running to the Thumper Forum, but I discovered that everything was not only running well, but the damn bike has squeaks built into it.

That's funny Rainman!

I'd always heard that Harley guys love loud pipes, but until I owned one, I didn't know the loud pipes were to cover up all the other noises that come out of the thing. The Buell is no exception.

I've left an F5-like swath of mechanical carnage behind me like no one else. My efforts to fix things have often resulted in an untimely replacement, or a more expensive trip to the repair shop than it would have been had I gone when the wife told me to "take it in". Somedays I can't fix a broken shoelace. That said, when my bike is out of warranty, I intend to service whatever needs it, as these things are pretty easy to work on.

Nicky Hayden's MotoGP bike had quite a bit of Orange on it, including the rims. I thought that would look good on a Blast contrasting with blue plastics, and the typical black head, etc.

Or am I crazy?

Indy, I have a few pics (not the best in the world but you'll get the idea) of my Blast before and after superbike bars on my myspace page, www.myspace.com/dankno, I can upload them here but as I haven't got all the bugs sorted out with posting to BadWeB yet quality always seems to suffer. I don't think there's any incriminating information over there and you can get an idea of the great characters that contribute to the chaos that is life in Vegas... On second thought, maybe you should ignore most of my friends and just stick to the picture area, j/k LOL!

If you look in the "handlebars" section of Badweb, Swampy posted a picture of stock and superbike bars side by side (but its tough to tell the difference:

Just thought i'd post this real quick.. Just changed my rear tire by myself for the first time today. It took me about an hour from setting up to picking up. I will NEVER pay $40 per tire again at a shop, when it is so friggin easy. Balancing was a piece of cake as well. The small cost of tire irons, rim protectors, tire lube and wheel weights is definitely worth it!

Oh and what a beautiful baby!

Robdog,

I did mine about a month ago. I made a big deal about how to lift my Blast and hold it up. Talked about hanging it from the ceiling rafters and all that. When the time came my son and I just lifted it onto the jack stands.

It only took a couple of minutes to get both wheels off. So easy I kept asking myself "Is that it???". Some kind soul let me use a tire machine and then going back on was a snap. It just wasn't a big deal. Nice to have an easy one happen for a change isn't it?
