Cycle Rama, Zipper's and a few others have also been working with Blast engines but they have no kits per say - you'd have to call them and tell them what your interested in doing with the bike and what would they suggest? I have links to all them in the recently updated thumper links section to things you cant find here in the Thumper KV. Nallin has spent the most time though pulling power out of the Blast engine, but all I have mentioned are capable of assisting you with getting more umph out of your Blast - lol - Got Thump?! I turned over 20,000 miles on my Lil-yellow Blast this past weekend. I love the little bike and will never get rid of it even if I do hear the XB9R calling me. I'm really pleased with the Pro-Series exhaust and Intake. Now if I could get off my ass and finish my rearsets, I might never stop riding the thing. James |

Cheers, James! I'm stuck on the Dyna these days. ANY chance I get to ride the Blast makes me not wanna get off the thing (well, except to let the blood back into the unmentionable regions). The more I work on and ride the Blast - the greater a motorcycle I believe it to be. It has to be one of the most honest bikes out there. Fantastic fun and very tinker friendly. Anyway - we need more high mileage Blasts out there. Sometimes I feel like we're doing some late Beta testing. -Saro |

Thats great James! How was OctoberFast for you - I remember that area to be quiet scenic. You running the intake straight? I have'nt put on the springs yet but it sits in the back of my mind to do so - especially with each pothole, roadripple, and steel plate (not to mention the uncovered water meter holes and tracks everywhere). LOL - still - having fun up here and when the jet arrives tommorrow my jetting concerns should be over and I can have some more fun on the Black - wine country - Calistoga area; Still the Red's nothing but a hoot now - even though I accidently tweeked a blinker - no biggy will replace but otherwise fun times riding! EZ--I have a blinker ass'y, all but the "smoke" cover. If you want it, just let me know. Quick question. My first "me-only" service is coming up, and I need a service manual. Where is the best place to get one? Also, I assume I'll need a stand to keep the bike upright during the fluid draining. Am I right in this, and if so, where can I get one? I was thinking about one of the rear wheel type stands, the ones that lift the bike by the swingarm (or at least that's the way it looks in the pictures I've seen of them.) Any information would be appreciated. Scott |

EZ, OktoberFAST was a great time. The scenery was really beautiful. There's nothing like having the dilemma of either riding for the conditions, or riding for the scenery. The roads up there are some of the best in the country, and who doesn't enjoy a redwood forest? I really suprised a lot of people about the ability of teh Blast, and I can't wait to get some rearsets. Man, I miss the roads up there allready, I have to go back up there again before the snow falls. James |

Scott (Newblaster), If all your draining is the engine oil, don't worry about putting the bike on a stand. I usually put the bike on a stand to drain the tans fluid though. The rear wheel swingarm stand made by Lockhart Phillips works well, and is a great thing for tire changes. By a manual from your dealer, or look for one on ebay. I think that Tat at American Sport Bike has them. James |

Thanks Scott - but my signals are different from stock - lol - I haven't used a stand yet , however, I guess it could make it easier - I'm sure someone will pipe up with ideas/recomendations - I always likes the rod through the axle with a jack stand on each side idea myself. Best deals on manuals have been on Ebay, but the dealer price is usually only ten more and no waiting - usually - lol. Hey DP has a new Buell mechanic - Mike - something (I'm lousy with names) - but he knows Aaron W. (so he says)and was with him when they where dialing in Susan's bike for the salt. He really knows his shit. So between Sean - hell of a mechanic, Ryan - hell of a rider, myself, and DP you should have a good information base. Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Cool, thanks for all the info. You know, on the signals, I knew yours weren't stock.. I've certainly spent enough time checking out all your shots of the bikes. lol... Too early in the morning to think, I guess. Thanks again, guys. Scott |

Here's a good carburetor story--Recently, after a stop for gas, I started my Blast!, and popped the throttle because the engine acted like it wasn't going to finish starting. (Crank, putt ... putt ... ... putt ... BANG!) I blew my carburetor off! Got a screwdriver, unscrewed the hose clamp, put it back, and tightened it again. No worrys! |

So I'm having the primary chain tightened and ordered a new rear sprocket (re: 15k miles and going through belts FAST!). My dealer says it's useless to replace the rear alone as the front is smaller and probably worn down even more than the rear. trying to scam me or legitimate point? |

Kyuss- Both - potentially. The rear sprocket has a factory recommended 15,000 mile replacement interval along with the belt. If they don't feel the front will wear - hopefully they know what they're talking about. However, if there's damage to the front sprocket and you're only changing the rear... The book says change the rear with the belt. I wouldn't worry about the front unless you KNOW it to be out of spec or damaged somehow. Whatever you decide to do - keep us posted on your breaking belt saga. I'm super curious as to what's going on... -Saro |

James, How are things since you've settled back in? Any plans on making it to the Newfie expedition next year? I just sold my 2 dirt bikes and bought a DR650, now I can really understand what your trip was like. Man the difference between that & the S3 is amazing. Take care, Mike |

Saro - christ, the front and rear combined are less than $90 bucks, so I'm not worried. Might as well do it now anyway. will report back on the belt. Although I'll be riding it 150 miles home at 42 degrees out and probably only until mid-november when the snow starts sticking around. But if it breaks before then, you'll be SURE TO HEAR ME! |

Mike, I'm doing great, work is grating on me, but everything else is going well. I really can't complain, life is good. I don't think that I'll be going to Newfoundland. The money won't be there, and I really want to be able to take the wife. I might go to Bonnie, but the $$$ compared to Newfoundland is <10%. My priority is to figure out how to buy some land from my neighbor and build a garage. My "little" trip on the Blast sure was fun, I really enjoyed spending the time with you and your family. I'm glad that you can experience the juxtaposition of the S3 and a Thumper. What really suprises me is that there are a few people that have qualified for an Ironbutt or a Bun-burner with the Blast. I really respect those guys. I think one of them hangs out here. James |

James- On the Blast, I propose we rename long rides to things like "Nut Number", "Ball Bruiser", or maybe "Scrotum Squasher". Not that I'd know anything about that... -Saro |

LOL That's funnier than heck. I think that I'll go with "Nut Number" for any Blast ride that is over 500 miles in a day. That's just too funny. James |

Right on James, we will one day soon for sure... Right now I have a question... I rode to Palm Springs today to check out the Harley guys get together (pretty cool)and on the way home my bike kept cutting out on the freeway- I would be going like 70 and it would stutter and eventually it died. It restarted and I pulled over and checked it out- found nothing, kept riding, it happened again, seems like the low end was fine but it would bog and die on top, especially if I let go of the throttle- it just was not getting fuel. I switched to reserve and it did run good after that, but I switched back to the main tank just hoping it would run out again and problem solved, but it did not run out and I rode about 8 miles to a station. It only took 1.6 gallons, so was I out? How far is the range of a Blast with my pipe and kit usually? I have not been paying attention like I should have been. All this happened between 75 miles (first noticed lag) and 98 miles when I got to the station. By the way, after I filled it up I flogged the crap out of her and she did not stutter once, but I did not have the chance to ride 70 plus for any real time, which is where I first noticed the problem... sorry so long winded, somebody anybody please tell me the range of freeway miles on your modified Blast. Thanks! |

Sounds like your fuel vent line - way to find out - if it happens again try popping open your tank and closing it - if that solve the problem then you may want to inspect your fuel vent line for kinks &/or holes, and that it doesn't have a lot of hills and dips to the canister, and see if your charcoal canister is ok (not clogged with filling up too much gas, etc.) - also the primary chain could be too tight - also been known to cause those symptoms. Tried the fuel vent thing (opening the cap) how do I check the canister? |

Disconnect the hose at the cannister market "Tank" and see what happens. Betcha a dozen Krispy Kremes that your problem goes away. -Saro |

You could try unhooking the line from the tank vent to the canister on the canister and see if the problem occurs - if it doesn't then the canister is probably full of water or fuell and thats your culprit - it is an EPA free trade out for another canister. Also if your primary is too tight it will limit your top speed and cut you off, also known to lower or stall your idle speed - see the proper adjustment methods on the KV specs & procedures section - Got Thump?! Sandblast-DITCH the canister. No good can come from it.It's REALLY easy to disconnect.Pull the 3 vacuum lines off the canister.Plug the big one, plug the little one that goes to carb(says on canister),leave the one to tank open to vent!DONE!(you can re-route the lines and make it neat if so desired) I found out the hard way the problems it can cause and they simply may not go away as soon as you pull off the gas cap! |
