Lovin' the Blast so much I'm doing the repairs it needs myself. Was taking out the cylinder to replace that infamous gasket the 2000's came with when I saw the real reason why it leaked: No gasket to begin with. Silly previous owner =P Before I install the gasket I want to replace the other gasket and seals w/ fresh ones. Says in the manual I have to turn the engine over until the piston hits a certain position when I reinstall the cylinder. How do I turn the engine over? Any help would be awesome and would be great to ride for the summer! I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, btw. |

San Fransisco Bay, thats Ezblasts territory! Put the bike in gear and roll the rear tire will move the engine to where you need it! Good luck on the gasket! |

Put the rear end up on jack stands with a rod through the rear axle. Put the transmission in 5th gear. Grab the tire and slowly turn it forward like you're going down the road. Did you really pull the cylinder, or just the head? |

If he is doing a top end gasket kit, he has the cylinder off.

BTW, if you've go it torn down that far, replace the valve guide seals. They are $4 and it made a huge difference in oil consumption. Unfortunately, I don't know what brand of seals are in there, but they aren't the Harley ones. Cyclerama replaced them when I sent them the head (click on that picture for the sordid details.) If you shoot Pammy a PM she might tell you. |

well, got the engine all put together, but now the darn thing won't start. changed the battery and tried starting it a few times but still nothing. It's definitely turning over, but stops after one second. If I keep trying to start it, smoke comes up from the clutch lever (eek) and the lever now makes a loud creaking noise. Tried adjusting that too, but no luck. Anyone have any ideas? I haven't installed the stock exhaust yet, could that be it? |

Sounds like you forgot the engine to frame ground strap that goes on the front mount and its now using the clutch cable as a ground. |

It's alive! Alive!!! Engine started up in less than 1/2 a second of pushing button. just need to go to dealer tomorrow for a new nut to secure that main ground. Still leaks a bit in the front/left side of base gasket too, will try tightening that up. Again, thanks you guys! Sure no beer? Last chance...j/k. Of course I'll pay it forward. |

I'm going in for the rocker gasket swap as my first bit of maintenance on the '00 Blast I bought 2 weeks ago. Three questions: 1) How much should I expect to spend on the gasket itself? 2) What else is recommended while I have the top-end disassembled? 3) Any tips/tricks on removing the gas tank without getting fuel everywhere? Thanks in advance |

Thanks, EZ. Are there any other inexpensive recommended fixes while I have the rockerbox top off? |

Rocker cover gasket kit pt#17036-91 or 17036-91A $40-$50. Kit says 'XL'. Make sure the petcock is off, keeps lots of newspaper handy, turn the fuel line hose to the ground (onto paper or drain can) it can only leak so much fuel, so thats all. (I like to turn the petcock off while its running and wait until it dies, that gets most of the fuel gone). When putting the fuel tank rubber hold down 'knobs' back on, grease the pins so next time they'll come off a lot easier! |

well, sorry for the late update, went on a long vacation and got to work on the bike again last week. I rode it around for a bit and found a huge leak. Turned out the head gasket cover wasn't sealing all the way, so I put the bike back up on the hoist, got in, and found it to be a washer that shouldn't have been there. So I fixed that, but while putting in the engine bolts, one of them, (the front bottom one that goes directly to engine) breaks. the head came clean off with the bolt inside, flush with the engine. Before I go out to get the right tools tomorrow, does anyone have any recommended methods on getting it out? drill the sucker out? hope i don't have to bring it to a dealer just to get it out =\ |

I know a method that works, however, its tedious and most don't have the patience for it - do an easy out by hand - use a tap handle - that way you can feel any catches or snags and work through them slowly - that has always worked in the Navy and in my civilian life - you tend not to screw it up this way, which is where half the guys do screw up - those threads are built with catches to make it difficult for a bolt to back out - doing it with a drill usually snags the easy out/bolt on one of the catches - unless you go real slow (and there is still a chance if you don't catch it when it snags) and then usually the easy out breaks in the bolt - or just works its way out of the bolt.
