Wasn't me, but I think the guy on BadWeb who mentions Das Boot a lot knows more about the engine failure event. |

WOW I did not realize the markup so HD dealers are putting on tire for my Blast. I called around for prices both HD shops I called were $30-$30 higher then online. Plus labo0r is crazy. I found two local shop to replace my tires for about $120 total. That covers them removing the wheels from the bike and the works. Amazing how much the HD name can cost you for some things. |

Anyone know where I can find a 2001 owner's manual? I've been looking and can't find one. Also, if you were sold a bike that had a hole in the gas tank would you get a lawyer involved? The guy who sold it to me denies everything and he bought it from a dealer. The hole had been plugged up with something gummy. I had the tank replaced and now the bike won't start. Thanks, a very pissed off new owner (Message edited by kellytir on August 01, 2008) |

Welcome to the Thumper Forum Kellytir! There are people with the capability to repair plastic, such as gas tanks, typically body shops that repair plastic bumpers and such. But good on you for getting yours replaced, a leaking fuel tank is a bad thing! There is a link for online owners manuals at the top of this page. I have found the owners manual to be of very little assistance to the care and feeding of the Blast! Better money spent would be for the service manual. |

Bike won't idle for $hit and sputters and backfires when decelerating. Is this what I think it is? For a boot, (if that is what it is) is it worth going through the warranty hassle, or just git'r'done myself? Thanks in advance, Awf ______________________ Firing order: 1 |

Welcome Kellytir! You had the tank replaced and now it wont start? Who replaced the tank? Wouldnt it be their problem that it now wont start? Lawyers not worth it, move on (if you buy used motorcycles this wont be the last time you're 'surprised' by a bad repair). The Blast is really simple to fix and before you spend any money on anything, we can usually spot a good or bad deal. For instance I know that several people here have spare tanks that they would've sold cheap! E-bay is also a good source for parts. Again, know what you're buying. Example: On ebay turn signals usually go for 2-3 times the price of new!!! They are readily available at the dealer!!! |

PS Kellytir. You have a California Blast (I assume). If the Cal only EPA charcoal canister has not been disconnected or removed, it should be done ASAP. It might also be the reason your bike wont start and it also has a mess of unneeded hoses that go with it that may have been mixed up when the gas tank was reinstalled. |

Awf hand: If you've got a warranty, use it? If you replace the boot and its not the boot and its something more, they can void your warranty since you attempted to repair it yourself. I'm not a big fan of taking it to the dealership and if you can successfully defend your repairs, then fix it yourself. |

Felicita - first try turning it, if that doesn't work - just take the whole assembly off with an allen wrench, so you can fix it from the back side - nut may need tightening, and then put it back on - use blue lock tight on the screws and base of rollover valve threads. EZ |

I'll be going to Texas at the end of the month, but it's to see my boyfriend Sorry, Berkshire. And Erik, all you have to do is take the 't' out of my handle, and that's me Tada! name change But seriously, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Any reason why this happens and is it something that happens often with these bikes? |

Trouble with dealership and warranty is the 2-3 weeks it takes to get it back... |

Awf: I cant see how swapping out the carb boot would void any warranty. I'd swap it out and if it doesn't help, take it to the dealer, and if it comes up, deny everything. I'm pretty sure you could talk your way out of the screwdriver scuffs on the hose clamp by claiming regular maintenance. Felicia: The Blast is very temperamental to changes in "mojo," the culprit could be that Gixxer in your profile. The good news is there is a fix, but it involves a tree... What part of riverside did you say you lived in? LOL!!!! J/K! |

UPDATE: My Blast is home and I already took it for a welcome home spin (only took them a month to fix it). In response to the oil issue, at 3379 miles they replaced all of the engine gaskets (part #17035-83B) (no rebuild). They blamed this problem on the dealership that rebuilt the engine at 412 miles. They could not explain why a 2003 Blast w/ 3379 miles needed BOTH tires replaced, but they did need to be replaced. Couldn't install PS cams w/o voided extended warranty. Anyone know whether (a) new muffler will void warranty; (b) whether new jets will void warranty; and (c) how bad is it if you install a D&D exhaust w/o re-jetting carb? As always, thanks for all your help. Was getting disillusioned with my Blast until I got it back, rode it, and fell in love all over again (Pirellis were big improvement!) Hopefully engine is finally fixed and won't need any MORE gaskets any time soon . . . |

Yes Felicita the tree dance could be the answer to your prayers - hmm - may need pictures/filming to make sure it is done right. Joshuasanders - just ride it for a bit, and enjoy the bike, then do 1 mod at a time so if something goes wrong you'll know what caused it. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on August 02, 2008) |

LOL! I'd be careful about offering to critique the dance for your fellow Blastards, you just may get more than you bargained for... Really tho Awfhand, if for some reason you suspect boot failure, just replace the thing, it's kind of ironic that we were talking about it this morning because about an hour ago I was on the side of the freeway with multi-tool in hand replacing mine. Thank goodness I took the advice of the elders here and made sure to keep a spare under the seat along with tools to do the job. On that note, Thanks so much to everyone who makes this forum possible and for all the hard work you guys put into it. The information and camaraderie that is available here is invaluable and greatly appreciated, thank you. NOW! OFF TO REPLACE A ROCKER BOX GASKET!!!! |
