Bzbuell, Check the boot! I had one pop off once long ago even while running the stock air cleaner! Dankno, a great primary/clutch adjustment will greatly help your problem, just make sure you adjust your primary before adjusting your clutch, and adjust the primary looser than what is recommended in the book. A tight primary can cause shifting problems. |

Dankno, also, if you have less than 5000 miles on it, it will shift hard. Switching the primary to 20W-50 synthetic will help. If all that does not help, you will need to adjust the shift pawl and make the rest of the recommended modifications while you are in there. |

The only problem I've had with my 2003 post Rider's Edge bike is the ticks I got dancing around the freakin' tree. Boy, those little blood suckers will hide in the STRANGEST places! |

Many thanks to all, I'll take it apart this weekend!!! The superbike bars, XB hand guards and new grips will hopefully be here today so I guess I'll have a full plate worth of wrenching to do! I can't wait!!! I'll have new pics up as soon as I'm done!!! |

Okay, I ordered "das boot." It should show up in a week or so. Is there are particular "grease" one of you would recommend to help with the seal? Also, can I reuse the clamps or do I need to buy new ones too? Thanks for the help. Anthony |

High temp silicone grease won't hurt but I didn't use any on my new boots, yes you can reuse the clamps just don't over tighten (make sure they are tight though) I always carry a spare boot, knock on wood, I haven't replaced one in some time |

Don't use any grease - it will just make it easier to pop off! EZ |

Der Boot should slip on without too much fuss...but an old trick to get rubber stuff (like Das Boot and hand grips) in place easily is spray a little brake cleaner on them and assemble while the part is still wet...the cleaner will evaporate completely leaving no slippery residue. (works to get good reusable grips off also....just use the handy extension straw..use a screwdriver to lift the grip and stick the straw in there and wet it up good...a little wiggling around and the grip will slide right off unless it is glued in place...in which case...good luck. "Buying - 2003 and up are less worrisome. EZ" Them's fightin' words!!! Anyway, die aufladung should go on quite easily no matter how unlubricated it is. A note on not getting into 1st: If you've been holding the clutch in, and all the gears inside stop spinning, shifting becomes pretty much impossible. If you're downshifting and it won't go down to 1st, let the clutch up a little until you feel it grabbing, then squeeze it again and shift. I once forgot to downshift after coming to a stop from 65, and I couldn't get below 4th! Note on safety: If the SUV driver is an old lady who's not just blind, but deaf as well, it doesn't matter how loud your horn is. |

Thanks for the good advice Reuel, that seems exactly like the situation I was in, thank goodness that I was just pulling out of my neighborhood and not an offramp. I'm going to pull it apart any way just to be safe, I hadn't noticed it before, but after focusing on the trans on the way to and from work today I am getting a slight speed sensitive whine that sounds like a gear driven timing set on an old chevy, not that loud of course, but I do think that at the least a reconnaissance mission is in order. BUT THE GOOD NEWS!!!! THE PARTS ARE HERE!!! THE PARTS ARE HERE!!! I was expecting/affraid that the superbike bars were friggin huge long, as it turns out, their actually about 2 inches shorter in length than the renthals on my KX (Oh ye of little faith I know.) Should look/feel perfect with the new hand guards!!! Looks like it's gonna be a long night for me. |

The Big Kid brought a shop bike home tonight a Honda VFR 700? Interceptor, V4, anyways after he told me some life changing news we decided we would go for a ride. We were maybe 4 miles from home, I had just did a hard lane change right to left, no traffic around, going 75 mph when..... . . . . . a county mountie pulled us over! I was explaining that it was the cute girl in the car from Tennesse that was infront of us and I'm sure it must have been her he got on radar, and he just smiled and said "nice try" so all along the Big Kid is mumbling, I don't need this right now, nice work Old Man. After a while the mounty comes up to us with just our licenses and says the magic words! I'm just giving you two a warning tonight. Thats the first time I was ever pulled over on a bike! |

Hah! Kids today don't know how to chill when dealing with The Man. You gotta be cool and play, especially with locals, even if you get a ticket. You may run across that guy again, someday. Worked for me. Uh, that and the Tulip Poplar Tango.... |

Stay away from the casinos for a while Swampy, you cashed in a BUNCH of good luck points. Glad to hear that nothing too terrible happened tho. SO! Got the Bars/Grips/Guards that I've been yapping about on and torqued down last night. Not to bad on time either, only took me about two hours or so. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to get rid of the alignment pins on the switches with out destroying the rest of the plastic. I think it looks pretty good though, well worth the cost of time involved. I'll post some pics tonite after work. OH! BTW This should probably go in the archives, for those who don't know and want to swap grips/bars, old grip glue gets razor sharp if it's just by itself (like on the end of the grip by the light switches.) Don't ask how I know. Looks like I ran the pads of my fingers through a cheese grater... |

Who's got the best prices for the OEM Dunlop rear tire? I'm looking at spooning one on myself as I've got about 5k on my original -doesn't look that bad, but will eventually... Thanks in advance, _______________________ Firing order: 1 |

Respect accepted. I've used Dunlops on all my bikes. With exception of Bridgestone on my KLR. The only thing I'd like more would be a Continental. _________________________ Firing order: 1 (Message edited by Awf_Hand on July 15, 2008) |

LOL - I think they could have one in your size - lol However, - save money and get life just as long and a better tire - Avon Viperstrykes in the stock sizes or oversized. EZ |

Well, what the hell. I'll shop for an Avon AM52. I like the looks of the tread pattern a bit more than the VS. This whole buying a Buell thing is an experiment anyway, so I might as well climb out of my rut and see what the view is like. I found one for 80.37 at cyclepages dot com. With 10.47 of shipping, that is pretty manageable. Any other places I should be looking? _________________________ Firing order: 1 (Message edited by Awf_Hand on July 15, 2008) |

Chaparral Racing - http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Chaparral/assets/h tml/homepage.asp?mscssid=AA18B58E47AE44AB8C249C369 E15F4D6&Gift=false&GiftID= usually has tires at a good price - the Avon 52's are a Discontinued item - so check and see if they have them first. The Viperstrykes are AM63 if I remember correctly and the stock sizes actually has a higher speed rating. EZ |

"Well, what the hell. I'll shop for an Avon AM52"Thank God! I dont think we've ever had a discussion on getting a cheap Dunlop! Ditch the Dunlops and you wont believe how much better the ride is. Highway squirlyness stops. And yes I respect your decision to choose Dunlops, but in this case there is a big difference on the Blast. I do actually run Dunlops on one of my bikes-the one I never ride! |

She was wearing a cute little sun dress that was so low cut I could see her heart beat, but alas, she was much too young for me as I am old a decrepid, even though I did chat her up a bit, seeing she might have been my meal ticket to the promised land (You just never know unless you ask) And for all my girlfriends everywhere.... my wife says Hi! And Gearheaderiko, I want to make a clarification, no it is not anybody in particular I am calling girlfirend, it was not Robi either(who I believe happens to be of the female persuasion, and I am sorry if Robi mistook my posting as to referencing her, as I was not even referencing Blastards, but the imaginary girlfriend my wife knows I have) Not that I don't want to give a warm Thumper welcome to Robi, as She is welcome to the Thumper Forum, as I believe I failed to do so. Not that I am not also giving a shout out to all my old friends on the Thumper Forum. Hi Buddy!, Hi All!, Whats Up?! Woo!, I feel light headed, maybe I was out in the sun too long this afternoon. Well the Big Kid gave me some big news last night before we got stopped by the county, I'm gonna be a grandpa! I've been a little off kilter during the last few days from work and the tribulations of the Little Kid and the constant annoying updates from his mother everytime he looks at her crosseyed. So I ask forgiveness and ask for your patience till I get my poop piled just the way I like it again. |
