I like the black/"chrome"lip look too. but something else would be nice. too many of the black/chrome. I have the same exact color so lets come up with some thing good. lol you could get creative and do a black/yellow scheme. the idea in my head would take a lil bit of work to accomplish, but you would fill in the middle of the spokes with either black or yellow. Then do the rest in the other color. Just an idea.

thats amazing. i was thinking the same thing.
where the "void" is in the spoke do yellow, and black the rest. still leaving the polished lip.
might be too busy. guess we could do one wheel and if we dont like it just paint it black.
i was thinking of white too.

gunmetal grey is probly the best color. but i figured it would be too close to the stock color. i like subtle though.

I highly recommend painting the machined part near the hub as well - everything except the machined lip next to the tire.

I've seen some with the whole wheel painted, no polished part at all - in fact, most sport bike wheels are like that. It looks good, but that's high-quality OEM powdercoating. I think tire changing would F up a home-painted wheel if you didn't leave the polished lip.

There used to be a picture somewhere of a yellow Blast with wheels painted red, but I can't find it - it wasn't just the wheels, there were a bunch of other red parts on it too.

You could do the whole bike in one color, or two contrasting colors like red/yellow or blue/white, or similar colors like light grey/dark gray, or just stick with something factoryish, with one color in addition to all the black, silver, grey, chrome, and natural aluminum parts.

looks good.
i can't help but think of american racing torque thrust 2's when i look at the wheels painted. that polished lip and 5 spoke design is real hot rod looking.

Hi again. On my tire issue. I checked the pressure and also checked underneath for the exhaust and kickstand. No scrapes there that I can see. Looking under the fender or what's left of it, it looks like it has rubbed on the tire. I rode into work today and had it bottom out once going thru a very slight dip. That was with just me onboard. Is there any way the rear shock could be the culprit? I don't see anything broken or loose underneath. Also Gearheadriko I am out of Branch 1100 also. I work at 92821 and would love to hook up sometime to get some pointers on my bike. Do you ever go to Knowlwoods for the SCAB meetings? Or if not maybe we could meet somewhere close after work. Anyways thanks again for any help you guys can suggest.

Welcome sycho!
Its not the tire, (but do check the tire pressure),definitely check the exhaust for scrapes. Also check the kickstand and kickstand spring.

PS What zip? I'm 92806 (branch 1100).

Not sure - been a while!

The part I really remember was that they had made a series of holes in the rear sloped side of the tank cover, and either painted the tank red or put a sheet of red stuff in between the tank & cover, so what you saw was some large red circles on the back side of the tank cover.

Anyhow, I think those wheels are painted/powdercoated the same way, but I don't remember whether the machined part at center was done or not.

I think that IS the same one - it looks like there are similar "red-filled" holes on the back side of the front fender.

Sycho - never heard of it happening, but then again, it could happen, and in your case probably has - stock shocks are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Sycho: Getting together would be a great idea and I'm more than happy to check out your bike.
I've got a rear shock you can borrow, unless yours is obviously leaking then its time for a new one (used is fine, I might have another spare).
Been to the SCAB meeting once. Saw a couple nice S1's, but it was mostly other brands. Seemed quite unorganized too. But thats only one meeting and although it didnt leave a good first impression, I cant judge them all by it. That was years ago too, I dont even know when they are now.

Once again today I'm reminded of how simple the Blast is to work on.
5 screws and five minutes and the drive belt is replaced! Seriously easy roadside repair (if needed)!
At 16,000 miles (and since I had a new belt anyway) I decided to replace it. No point in thinking about doing the recommended sprocket replacement, since I'm rotating 4 wheels, I'm not about to replace 4 sprockets.
Interesting that a big deal is made about not twisting, bending, flexing the belt. The new belt came in a small square factory box, all twisted up. Stored this way it will fit under the Blast seat! I have another new belt from the factory that came in a huge box, untwisted.

So the next time some 'Big Twin' rider ribs you about how often you (might) need to change that skinny belt, you can ask him how long it would take to change his. It wont be 5 minutes! Several hours, minimum.

GH Erik, what were the specific tools used to do the belt change? Wrenches and sizes? Extensions?

Thanks in advance,

T-27 Torx bit on a ratchet w/6" extension or on a screwdriver if it has a section with which to grip it with a wrench (just in case the front sprocket cover bolts are tight).
Floor jack (or bike stand) to walk the belt on the pulley or you can just roll the bike.
It took longer to write than to change the belt!

So, why did it take so long for me to pull the rear fender? I had to rip the rubber apart and grip the round nuts with channel locks! They were just turning in place! Well, I only had to do it once.

I wonder if the new twisted belt will last longer than the untwisted one?
