I understand that EZ, and I maintain my pride'n'joy items meticulously... BUT I've also left an F5-like path of mechanical carnage behind me on some vehicles as well. Trust me, trust me not, trust me... _______________________ Firing order 1 |

probably a common problem but was wondering if anyone could tell me what the reason is and if there is any thing i can do to stop the gear grinding my blast makes when i first start it up and put it into first from neutral. also have trouble even getting into first from 4/5th gear when coming to a stop light etc. |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/363938.html?1213232863 Mostly normal. With practice and getting to know your bike it can be done without any grind. Going from 4/5th to 1st should be done while still moving and shouldnt be a problem. Making sure your clutch and primary chain are adjusted properly makes it much easier. When cold its best to let the bike warm up at least 30 seconds, holding the clutch in during that time will help as well as giving the throttle a few quick blips before shifting into first (let the engine stop revving first). Pulling the clutch in and out a couple times during the first 30 second or so will also help free the clutch plates up. (it nowhere near as much trouble as all that sounds). |

Actually, its easier. Hold the clutch in for at least 4 seconds, then gently press the shifter from neutral to 1st. Hey, its been 5+ years since I had the Blast and I still remember that drill. I'm assuming that the post '00 Blasts shared the same tranny/clutch as mine. |

If you don't downshift to neutral or 1st before you come to a stop, you're sort of SOL if you then want a seamless shift. My XB9S punishes me when I do that with some gawd-awful crunching noises. I guess that should be consequence enough to help me remember. |

Maybe this has been brought up here already, but the 2008 Buell brochure devoted NO special pages to the Blast, only having two thumbnail photos on p.41 and the spec's on p.45 Leads me to think something is about to change for 2009. Maybe a thumper will gone from the Buell lineup. Or maybe a revised Blast will finally emerge! Okay, I'm being hopeful but would probably be first in line for an EFI Blast as I was for the '00 Blast (got the 1st one at my dealership). Any good rumor vapor trails to follow? |

Prof, I'm not saying you have to go through that every time, only if you want a guaranteed smooth shift. The "hold the clutch in for at least 4 seconds" is still hit and miss. But whatever works! |

Rotax, huh? Are they the supposed makers of the 450cc motor for the canceled Buell dirt bike? Gearheaderiko: You're right about the hit and miss, but after about 5k I rarely had a crunchy shift IF I was patient to hold the clutch in a few seconds. My XB seldom shifts that smoothly from neutral to 1st. |

Rotax also makes a 550cc and 650cc - lol - and the really neat thing is - they all have the same mounting points;0) EZ (Message edited by ezblast on June 14, 2008) |

Sometimes I really wonder why nobody has thought of the obvious. The most often the Blast crunches is after starting for the first time. Has nobody thought to pop it down to 1st right before hitting the starter button? |

Reuel: it can be hard to start that way especially if the weather is cold and it may lurch forward. Ever tried putting it in first, pull the clutch in and push your bike when cold? (without starting it). "but after about 5k I rarely had a crunchy shift IF I was patient to hold the clutch in a few seconds." Concur! |

Welcome Patio6! I'm sure EZ has sent you a wealth of info, but since you certainly may have stirred a lot of junk now would be the time to install an inline fuel filter between the tank and carb. Usually not necessary, but... Buy a filter intended for an old vw bug. Clear plastic and only a couple bucks, it will let you know if gas is flowing and if you're collecting a lot of junk in the filter. |

Hey all, Awhile ago, someone posted a link to a really customized Buell blast that looked like something Jules Verne would've dreamed up. It was very Art-Deco retro-futuristic, if you know what I mean. ANybody remember the link?? Thanks, ______________________ Firing order 1 |

Hi, Going back to the clunking gears when shifting to first, I found that letting the auto-choke idle down before I take off makes the shifts easier. That's why they grind so bad in a Rider's Edge course is we start 'em, shift 'em and send them out. Letting my bike idle down has taken care of most of that problem. I seldom have any problem. I have little problem on the road after the engine's warm so may be I don't understand the issue. |

I have kind of an odd circumstance happening with my bike on very hot and humid days. The bike backfires a bit in the black container where the air filter is located. The backfire is bad enough where it kills the bike. I restart and give it a little gas and it still backfires lightly, but goes away after 30 seconds or so. This backfire, for lack of a better term, only happens on very hot and humid days in the afternoon. The mornings and cooler days are fine. I thought maybe there was something amiss under the plastic cover, so I took the cover off noticed about a 1/2 teaspoon of fuel (?) in the bottom of the cover. Also, the air filter has a definite stain of filter fuel. I took that crazy looking filter out of its cubby hole and made sure it was in order. I put it back in, cleaned out the fuel at the bottom of the plastic case, and closed the latches and tightened the locking screw. The bike had a 1000 mile maintenance about 100 miles ago. Is it possible that the mechanic maladjusted the carb or some other calibrating device? The oil levels are good and the bike runs normally most of the time, except for that 30 seconds after start-up on very hot/humid days. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated. |

The coolest thumper I have seen was/is one built by a fellow named Jan Honee from the Netherlands...he and a few others from Europe came over a few years ago to run at the ProStar world finals in Gainesville. The bike is a one off completely hand crafted piece (did I mention that Jan is a master craftsman/tool and die maker/master machinist?)...the engine is 500cc based on Jawa engine although it is entirely machined from billet...anyways it has a Spirex supercharger, 2 speed tranny and runs on nitro...it ran 8.17 in the quarter if memory serves me...I don't remember it pullin a killer 60ft...but it went into warp in high gear...utterly astounding..at that time it was the quickest ever 1/4 mile pass for a 500cc single of any variety. |
