My bad; I thought it may have been made out of aluminum in order to minimize the reactions of having dissimilar metals together. |

aluminum may be used later once I build it out of steel. bu for now i dont have a tig welder .I am not going to pay for someone elde to build it at 25 dollars an hour just for the welding. |

Understood...I just installed an aluminum spool gun to our miller mig, it works great. Maybe someone local may have a similar setup? I also have a tig available for my use. I live in San Diego, if down in this area it could be welded. (Message edited by point_doc on May 22, 2008) |

Cool - a good muffler shop should be able to make you a great exhaust if you use some of the dimensions suggested in the Thumper section, you'll be rocking! A P-clamp on the front lower with stock lower front mounting hardware - 10 bucks all new - ala - V&H style, and the rear bracket has always been an easy tab and bracket bar - connected with bolt, washer, rubber washer(s) between a washer, maybe a spacer, washer ,face/bolt hole,washer,lock-washer, locknut. Thats worked on both my current which are custom. EZ |

Just a thought - but would it make sense to try & utilize a downdraft carb (Keihin FCR comes to minf) and a plugged / welded / whatevered XB intake manifold and ba able to make use of the generous airbox? -Saro |

"Just a thought - but would it make sense to try & utilize a downdraft carb (Keihin FCR comes to minf) and a plugged / welded / whatevered XB intake manifold and ba able to make use of the generous airbox?" I'm inclined to agree, but I think that could be easily added later. I think getting it going is step one. After all, he may end up hating it! |

I think Saro may be on to something. If you did do that, the way the bottom of the airbox is, I doubt there would be any issue breaking boots. |

"I doubt there would be any issue breaking boots." There would be issue with intake seals unless lots of bracing is involved. The opposite cylinder provides lots of support for non-rigidly mounted intake. |

The intake velocity stack would help with support. It's made of rubber, so it could (and does) take the vibration well. |

i just think we would be making it more complex than it needs to be. the stock blast intake/carb is a good functioning set up except for the boot. brace the carb and that problem is all but eliminated. simplicity people! its not really going to perform any better with a new carb and intake set up. to make use of that you would have to upgrade the rest of the motor. plus... the thing is on a budget(which keeps having to get a little bigger...) |

Thats why I went with the ultralight stack and springs for a brace - its worked for me! Total intake cost - 80 bucks with the stack custom filter. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on May 30, 2008) |
