Hello, I Just Dyno'ed my Blast. I found a place that will do it for $35, instead of $100. They are 80 miles away, but its Definitely worth it. Anyway, I got back 26.7 max HP and 26.7 max Torque with 13.9 max A/F (although, it is between 12 and 11 from 4000 to 6000, but very broken up between 3 and 4, to where you can't tell what it is). How do these results compare with others? Performance mods: Vance & Hines exhaust, Pro-Series intake, Screamin Eagle Adj. ignition module(set to advance curve 9), V-Rod OEM Spark plug, TPS fixed at 3.5 volts(to simulate constant WOT spark advance), Jetting: 45 slow, 170 main(kiehin jet), needle shimmed to dynojet jet kit recommendations. What Type of Dyno was used - could you post it - certain types of dynos deliver lower numbers than others - I've had my bike dynoed at eight different shops - I know this to be true. Also altitude would be usefull as well - I suspect if it is the Eddy-Flow type - then in all actuallity you would be 2 hp up on a regular V&H set up - if its not then I have questions and I would need to see the Dyno sheet itself for those answers - GT - JBOTDS! The dyno that was used is a Dynojet Research Dyno (going by what it says on the sheet). I believe it is at least four years old, but I don't know the model name (I can find out!). The altitude is about 200 feet. What is "the Eddy-Flow type"? The Chart is extremely broken up, with five gaps in the arcs, but you get the idea. I tried to scan it in, but I couldn't get the file size right, it was either too big or way too fuzzy to read. Any tips? Thanks! --Nik BTW, I'm going to do the 600 kit this winter! |

Hmm...the only time I've had my Blast dynoed (I want to get it done again soon, then again after adding the Pro-Series equipment) was at the 2002 Homecoming at Hal's. It was running poorly (turned out to be a bad sensor of some sort and the timing was off a bit), and it came in with 31hp and 28ft/lbs. The only thing done to it was a rejet. Now I've got a slightly modified airbox to add to that. I'm really interested to see what the Pro-Series stuff can do to it. There's a noticeable difference in power between my Blast and stock Blasts with just the rejet and minor airbox change. |

Glitch - lol Darthane - yea - some 2000 - 2001 Blasts had a slight timing problem - a service Bullitin for this can be found at Sport Twin's Doc. area -noticed the same improvement on the Red - waiting patiently still for the Wileyco - lol Halfaharley - If everything on your side is good then it is the Dyno thats a bit off - sounds like the hp is about 5 down from where it should be - I could tell better by looking to see where the torque and hp intersect on the chart to see if its intersecting at the right place. If you want to see what that exhaust will do to a big bore kit - see the Thumper KV section - lol - I'm pretty sure I'm right about that dyno being 5 off which would put you in very good power output for your first stage of modifications - but for the next step your contemplating a whole new exhaust will be needed. - lol - so the Dark side calls! Hey guys, I took the rear tire off my Blast to go get it replaced. Is there any tension specs that it needs to be set at when tightening and do I need the bearings repacked? or are they the sealed kind? I'm new to all this and could really use some advise. Here you can find a scan of my dyno run: http://home.comcast.net/~vettekid20001/dynorun.htm You'll notice that they probably do cross a little before 5250, but it's hard to tell, since there's a huge gap there. 31 does sound closer to what others are getting. Would you post a link to where these discussions are about the exhaust issue? I couldn't really find it in the exhaust section, but I didn't look that far back. --Nik |

Nancy (Buell Mule), Thanks, it was great meeting you in WI. Rear axle need to be torqued to 48-52 ft-lbs torque. The bearings are sealed, so unless they are gravelly, gunchy or loose (highly technical terms!) or there is grease puking out of them, I wouldn't worry. Belt tension is non-adjustable, and is fine. From James P. on another Board While I was in WI, I didn't get to talk to too many Buell employees, but I did get to talk to Henery Duga (the race team manager) about the Blast. Here's pretty much the way the conversation went. JP: Henery, who designs the Buell Pro series stuff? Is it HD Parts and Accessories, or Buell? HD: Buell, has engineering input, but it goes through HD P&A. JP: Have you seen the Pro-series intake for the Blast? HD: Um, I don't think so... I remember hearing about it though. JP: It's a plastic elbow with a K&N filter at the end. HD: Oh Yeah, I remember seeing it now. JP: Well, the strange thing about the design is that the only thing supporting th e carb and intake is the rubber intake coupling, there is no bracing. HD: This sounds problematic, I'm suprised that there haven't been reports of the carb falling off the bike. JP: There are a few people the I know of that have had their carbs fall off their Blasts running the Pro-Series. Can you look into this and see if supports were considered and why they weren't used? HD: I'm not really sure why there is not a support, there probably should be one. This could become a big problem, I'll look into it. JP (jokingly): Maybe because it's "race only" we're supposed to fab our own supports. HD: No, I don't think so, it's supposed to bolt on and work, like the rest of the Pro-series stuff. Nik- The A/F chart on your dyno run seems to show peak A/F as 11.9 - not 13.9. You seem considerably rich everywhere else - unless the chart is mislabeled or I'm reading it totally wrong. There would seem to be some ponies to be had across the board just by getting the A/F dialed in closer. -Saro PS - Been running the Pro Series now with ZERO support for a couple of weeks and a few hundred miles. EZ, I don't think that Henry Duga had any direct input into the development and production of the intake, he was just the only factory person that I could corner and talk to! I hope he looks into it, but unless I hear anything from the factory officially, and as long as Saro's luck holds out, I'll probably run mine unbraced and carry a spare boot. James |

By HD I ment the company - not the person - lol - wanted to clear that up! - lol 1/2harley - Saro could be right - but If I were you I'd check it off another dyno - I know they don't grow on trees but you've already proved yourself to be resourcefull enough to find one - find out who their competition is and use their dyno as well. Then you would have a fair comparrison to work with and know where your at. I would do that before jetting any leaner which would be the next step according to that chart. The numbers posted on this board by others was a great guide line for me to know the area of where my bike should be (assuming everythings ok with the bike) and that allowed me to judge which dyno was more accurate - I use two different shops now depending what I'm looking for - an independent shop for general pulls to find out where my power lays, and if I want to get real tech. to study the effects of jetting and needle shimming I hit the local Aprilla Dealer - their dyno is set up for very specific reading of AF vs torque and hp. Both shops are very serious about their racing efforts - so their machines usually reflect true values. Good price - I pay either 65 or 50 for a best pull out of three deal at one or the other shop. Keep us posted on your results though - you are definately Blasting on the Dark side with all the work you've put into her so far though and its nice to find others willing to put their bike on the line - dyno line that is - lol Got Thump?! Darthane - It was the best out of two runs, he said they were both nearly the same. Saro/EZ - The guy who dyno'ed it said he was watching it and, where the gap is, it peaked at 13.9, that's why he wrote it in. He also said that I should leave the jetting alone because it's really as close as possible. I will dyno it at another shop before making any changes. EZ - You're right, I am blasting on the dark side. It all started with your reply to my post in Buell World, when I asked for an opinion on weather or not I should trade her in for an XB. I had no idea what I really had in my little Blast at that time! Not just some bike, I had a bike that really changed my way of life! Theres definitely something magical about our blast and I think you have to own one to feel it (the Dark Side). It's not about horsepower or speed or loudness, (completely) it's about attitude. --Nik |

Yea - the darn things are just too much fun and even if you get an XB later on, I'd hang on to the Blast for around town and stuff - it would still be the better city bike - lol - IMHO - lol - so true - it changed my life also - probably another reason I'm a big fan, that and the KISS method really applies to this bike compared to other bikes when it comes to modifications;0) - Yea the fun of making the bike your own and tailoring it to your riding style is half the fun! EZ, Interesting, I was going to "lurk" over on "the other Blast Board" and found that I was bounced i.e. no longer have an account. Oh gee, let me know if there is any info worth knowing. Must have made "an impression" on our "friend". You are quite correct that this little bike is just too much fun. Only a few more days until I head that direction, first to Aaron's then on to Bonne. Ray, Best of luck on the salt, I'm thankfull for your appreciation, but ultimately you will be the one to make it all happen. I was hoping to join the Elves on the salt, but the "James Blasts to the 20th" fund took nearly all my spending cash and all my vacation time away from me. Hopefully I will get to meet you there next year when you set more records, or raise the ones you set this year! I think we should start a 111 club for people who go 111+ MPH on a Buell Blast!!! Now lets not have every Blaster trying for it by blowing by one of those signs that post your speed - then again not a bad idea if you got a few witnesses and no cops in the area - (lol - describe vast areas of hwy 101) - BARF (Bay Area Rider's Forum - lol) has been known to post the location of lonely speed-posting signs for people wanting to make use of such knowledge, still the salt is where its at! Darthane Which bike would you rather have knocked over while parked on a city street - your Blast or your XB? The Blast can take a beating much better than the XB since it was designed with the beginner in mind - knowing that a drop may definately play a reacurring theme in its life. I would be embarressed to tell you how many times its been down - I've always thought BlastVader was in competition with Spidey's MaryJane and Jose's Puata for most dropped honors - lol - Got Thump?! I'm looking to get a set of front and rear kenda's but can't find anyone that has the sizes that are talked about on this site. I've tried chaperal, powersports, and dennis Kirk. Any help from the people that have gotten them??? thanks in advance -stuart Update: Found the rear tire at http://www.discountmotorcycletire.com/ it's not in their system yet but if you call them they will do a 'hand order' and the tire is 50 bones plus shipping (14 more for me). LOL...very true, very true. The Blast has been down thrice, twice at the hands of my girlfriend. All low speed stuff, nothing over 10mph. I think the most it cost me to fix was about $30, when she mangled the clutch lever. The XB's been down once, I was doing somewhere around 25-30 on a downhill...luckily I missed the pavement for the most part. Caused about $200 worth of 'necessary' repairs damage. Scratches just add character! Given a choice, I ride the XB, but every time I take the Blast out I'm reminded of what a phenomenal little bike it is. 100% fun doesn't require 100rwhp! Off the tops of your heads, anyone know the K&N replacement air filter P/N for the stock Blast airbox? Those Pro Series ones make me kind of nervous, dangling off the carb like that... Bryan |
