I'm going out on a limb here... Someone knocked my vmax onto my blast when they were parked together, and let's just say the blast came out the loser in that one, so I will be working on it. I am getting the urge to do something unique to it now. That tail just needs to be shortened. I've been banging my head against the wall about how to create lines I like without redoing/replacing the tank, while still shortening the rear. Simply putting a single seat pan at the base of the tank like a hellcat or something sounds nice until you realize it'd be for smurfs only, from the seat to the controls. Plus that seat had better be made out of a battery. I have both seats, and even the high one is too low in relation to the controls, IMO. Then I came up with the idea you see below. The lines of a bike are dictated by both the tank AND the seat... With some cutting of the pan, propping it with some hard material like wood to make it higher, then cutting a piece of foam to the right shape, gluing, and re-covering it all with the same type of material, I'd get something like this. I'd only have to remove the tube part of the frame, and I'm 99% sure I would retain the original seat-attaching hardware and battery space. Very minor cutting involved: seat pan and rear peg bracket. The foam could be as thick as I want it, for added comfort. The seat is a good height, and I like the lines. Does anyone have any ideas, comments, insults, advice etc. about my mock-up? I am no artist, obviously. I am looking for input because I might just be out of my mind with this one after looking at so many options all day.

Wow that's very similar. So much for my original idea. I would actually go for a thicker seat, changing the lines a little, but that's uncanny. I guess my idea can't be all bad! |

So I ordered a front isolator last monday. Didn't come, didn't come, and called last friday and they said not until Tuesday. So, I call today, and nope didn't come. In fact, it hasn't even shipped yet. It might ship tomorrow or the day after, and then they say it will take two days to go 400 miles from Milwaukie to here, so it probably won't even be here this week. 2+ weeks just to get an isolator?! WTF. So I call Appleton. None in stock. Hals, None in stock. Silver Eagle in Waterloo, none in stock. These are big buell dealers with riders edge and the whole works. Silver Eagle tells me they have been waiting on one too - for one of their rider's edge bikes... My dealer checked the system and no dealers in Minnesota have one in stock, and apparently neither to any in Wisconsin or Iowa either. WTF is going on, damnit. Piss Poor I say. Piss Poor. What if I had been on the road somewhere and broke down and needed a part?! What do I have to stay in a hotel for 2 weeks. man. i'm pissed..... |

Downed bikes do get a priority, however, it always takes 10 days with Chicago HD - 5 for them to order and recieve, and then ship. - lol EZ |

I have ordered and received 4 different parts for this bike in the time since I placed the order for the isolator. A set of handlebars from some backwater discount website that I half expected to take my money - and my identity and send me no part - but nope - It came in 4 days. An ebay Dash. Bought, Paid, Shipped, Delivered in less than a week. A Belt. Appleton had it in stock, overnighted it (with a sweet new shirt). Got it in like 18 hours. A 2 1/16 autometer clock from Jegs. Standard shipping and got in less than 48 hours after I ordered it. And Harley is telling me it takes 8 days to process an order, two days to get the item out of the warehouse, and another two days for ups to move it 400 miles? effin bullschite if you ask me. Naustin, I feel your pain, man. I have been there. I am not happy with HD at all these days. From the top all the way down to my local dealership. Hang in there. |

Anybody experience a backfire through the carb? Was idling at a traffic light and I felt a pop under my knee and the engine idle dropped then picked back up. I wasn't able to "make" it happen again. |

I think that's the automatic choke making that pop. That happens to me sometimes, esp. if I don't warm it up enough, or it's particularly cold out. It's loud and you can feel it happen. Correct me if I'm wrong. (Message edited by mikedog on May 21, 2008) |

I've felt something similar as the autoenrich (not automatic choke) fully disengaged. It doesn't seem so noticeable any more. I once had a backfire when I went almost WOT suddenly when it was still warming up. I blew my carburetor out of the boot! Pushed that bugger back in, went home, and tightened the clamp down just a little bit more. |

The Boot. The intake boot between the carburetor and the intake has a tendency to crack. It is much more frequent on Blasts that have had the stock airbox removed. |

Also it's a play on words. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_boot |

I'll make an inspection of the boot. But first, some more details: Engine was fully warmed up. Tank was 80-90% full of fuel. I'd been running in 4th gear at about 45-50mph for about 3 miles, just prior to downshifting and an easy stop at a traffic light. -I'd travelled several miles before that. I'd been stopped about 3-5 seconds before the "chuff" and could feel it on my right knee through the airbox. -Any of these details add anything or should I not worry until it is time to worry?? |

Hey Mike, I realized my profile pic is quite dark, here is a pic of my bike right after tail-chop seat-mod time. I have since done quite alot more, but this would be probably the closest to your idea! The second pic is just to show my new upholstery job. When all is finished the Blast will have red grips and exhaust to match. On a quick side note, I originally started with a Blast HIGH seat.

I got back form Colorado this afternoon! Wow! what a place, talk about roads, when you get up in the mountains..... Even the main roads got curves, It was really nice out there. I went white water rafting on the Arkansas River, and came down Pikes Peak in a Dodge mini van with the front brakes metal to metal. I am suprised I wasn't stopped at the ranger station when I drove in there as it was making all kinds of racket. I spent almost $300 in the little jewlery shop at the bottom of the mountain(My daughter was with me) I simply do not have any idea why I live in Michigan anymore, only that I am a slave to "Da Man" |

Naw! We aren't the only ones in the MidWest. Its that folks are still busy shoveling snow, and they forget about riding. When I was driving through Denver Tuesday it was 87 degrees, when I got back to Michigan on Wednesday it was 50. |

Ya gotta love Colorado! We have about 300 days of sunshine per year here in Denver. And because it is a dryer climate I ride year round, even when temps are in the teens (as long as there is no snow/ice on the roads). I rode 21,000 miles in 2007, and will probably do close to that this year too! |
