Ok. I’ve got a stupid question that I’m sure will be oblivious when some one tells me the answer. I’m going to an outdoor tomorrow and don’t want spend two hours carrying my helmet. So what do I do with it when it’s not on my head?

At work I can just put the helmet under my desk. But what do I do with my helmet when I go to the store, a park or such? I don’t want to just leave it sitting on the bike, it’d be gone in a heart beat. Many bikes have a locking mechanism but there isn’t one on the Blast.

Is there some aftermarket device to keep my helmet from walking off without me?

I’m open to ideas about what to do.

I carry a small padlock in my pocket...just a cheapo small one....I set the helmet on a mirror and put the lock thru the d-rings on the helmet strap...around the mirror shaft...so far no one has cut the strap and stolen the helmet...

I guess that would work. But wouldn't it be too easy for some one to just give the mirror shsft a quick twist and have it come loose?

Hey Harry, Now that you have the Jardine on your bike and dialed in, how much do you want for your stock muffler? I could drive over Sunday and pick it up.

You are right Zane...they could take off the mirror...but it is handy and has worked for me so far....a determined thief will get it or mess it up in any case...on bikes with "helmet locks" I have seen many helmets torn up in attempted thefts...the safe thing is to carry it with you...

As for the muffler....come and git it!!! I will PM you my phone number....I also still have the stock seat....come git it too!!!

I wear plain black $150 HJC helmets for the theft situation. THey're not vauable enough to be stolen for the purpose of selling. And, if somebody ever did take it just to be an - I can replace it cheaply.

I usually hang the helmet off the footpeg so that it is out of the "line of sight"

Whenever I leave the bike for an extended period of time, or if I'm in an area where I'm particularly worried about theft, I'll lock the helmet in my saddlebag (presuming they are empty, or just carry it inside with me.

More to the point, you can get a cable lock and go though the chin bar of a full face helmet and then around the triple clap, wheel spokes, frame, swingarm, etc...

If its a half helmet, don't bother locking it up and if it gets stolen, get a full face. ; )

I took Fast1075's suggestion and bought a small combination padlock. I have a Shoei RF1000 so I don't want it to disappear. I'll just padlock my helmet to the mirror. Seems like the easiest way to address the issue and let's face it. Is some butt hole wants to steal my helmet, he'll find a way.

I'm going to the Tampa HD's 16 anniversery party tomorrow. It'll be fun to look at all the bikes, eat their chili and look at their semi naked girls. Helmet theft shouldn't be a big deal tomorrow. But Sunday at the Walmart... Well no telling about that. I just want to be ready.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

If it's solid color, peel off the Shoei stickers and put something on there that makes it look cheap.

If it's got awesome graphics, then don't let it out of your sight! Most helmets come with a drawstring bag that you can sling over your shoulder and carry the lid plus gloves, camera, etc., and they wad up pocket size.

I wouldn't assume that a big bike event would be safe - much higher percentage of people there have use for a helmet and know what's what. Most people passing by at walmart don't know a $20 helmet from a $1200 one, and don't ride anyway...

Maybe a good idea to get a cheapo helmet for when you're planning to leave the bike parked and carrying would be inconvenient.

Oh yeah...

One of the guys in my rider's edge class had a super fine ironhead sporty chopper that he had built himself from the frame up. He rode it up there (dealership) on the last day of class, and afterwards there was some kind of hootenanny going on with beer and a bikini contest and whatnot. It was parked right in front with a bunch of other shiney bikes and a hundred or two people all over the place, and nobody saw what happened to it.
