Smart thinking! No arguement from me - I've figured that I'm taking the same risks as a lot of HD riders take doing the same!Still - I like the look and gravel roads I take very slowly the few times I take them (visiting my sister involves 8 miles of dirt - lol) - Cool on the Corbin - if its totally new you might want to oil up the leather a bit to make it more subtle for the long ride's comfort (like breaking in a glove;0)) - what does your travel tool kit consist of - can you stash everything under the seat? Carrying an extra belt? - lol - Totally cool though! I guess I'll just have to ride to my property to console myself - lol - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

EZ, My toolkit is.... 5/8 combo wrench Sparkplug Quart Mobil-1 20W50 Funnel Small Crescent Wrench Tire Pressure Gage Flashlight Extra Batteries Gerber Multi Tool Pliers CELL PHONE I figure if I need anything else, I'll use the last tool to get it. I was going to carry a spare belt (Saro's 15,000 mile used belt), but the Buell annonies say that backbending will kill the Belt. Saro's handling bulletin says 10" bend diameter for backbending, that would be a 20" circle, or like the size of the Blast front tire. No thanks, too bulky for me. I'll just ask Saro to FedEx me his if I need one and can't get it. Check out http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/34057.html?1060383926 BTW, I have more crap in my First Aid kit than my toolbox. I'm carring all my stuff in a Chase Harper tailbag, I never carry anything under the seat, I forget it's even there. Three more daze until I start Blasting twoards Wisconsin. James |

speaking of breaking stuff.......... Me and the Blast got separated last night while testing the Works suspension out at work "big empty parking lot". My foot peg decided to raise the rear wheel off of the ground and send the Blast on its merry little way. The only thing I found broken was one of my mirrors and a turn signal. The toe peg and part of the shifter was ground down some but still work. Such as life. More testing to be done this weekend if the rain holds out. I'm fine, no road rash or anything bad. Leathers got a little scuffed. Eric |

"The only thing I found broken was one of my mirrors and a turn signal." -eric you lucked out on that one! So, I don't have to go 200 miles to my closest motorcyle mechanic finally. Friends told me of a local guy who works on harley's with belts and said he could replace mine today(had one overnighted). He said if I could find more specifics on the procedure(i.e. torque specs, etc..) it would make the process quicker for him. Can anyone lead me to these specs? thanks in advance, Kyuss |

Saro - Naw - I bought land instead for the future homestead - you know how that goes - lol - Spooky - time for rear sets! - glad to know your ok! Rubber side down damn it! - lol - The only torque spec is the rear axle48 - 52 ft -lbs, and the battery 60 - 96 in - lbs - they say to replace the sprocket when replacing belt - don't know if thats really needed though, looks pretty straight foward - he should have an easy time of it - just don't let him over flex or bend the belt on installation and you should be ok. Kyus- I don't believe you're supposed to change the sprocket each time you change the belt. However, the sprocket / belt combo has a 15,000 mile life according to the service manual. If you bust your belt at 5000 miles I don't think a sprocket change is in order. However, at 15000 - that's a different story. Maybe some knowledge can magically appear here... -Saro |

Ez I all ready have rearsets. I running the Banke rearsets. I going to pick up a XB shifter in the morning and move my peg 1.5" higher. The XB shifter will clear the clutch inspection cover, the Banke shifter will not clear the inspection cover. Well back to work. Eric |

I run full original equipment, belt guards and all, so I do not think that was the problem. My dealer,Ed Ahren, suspected it was a bad batch of belts, and was going to talk to the engineer that designed the belt drive system, but then Ed passed away on a test ride, so I have not heard anything else. With a total of 6500 miles on the bike, and about 2500 on the belt, i *should* be ok for a while, but two belts breaking in a short period of time seems to be the development of a trend on my bike. I'm not worried though, what happens happens. |

Kyuss, Any chance you trailers or otherwise transported the bike between the belt brake and replacing the belt. Also is there a chance that you left the fuel valve on during that transport. If so, your engine is badly fouled, leave the sparkplug out overnight, replace with new plug and all should be well. Ray |

Hello, I recently switched to a Pro Series intake and have a Vance & Hines exhaust. I have not re-jetted yet. After I made the switch, I get a lot more popping noise from the exhaust than normal upon engine braking with a warm motor. Does this indicate leanness? I don't get much or any backfire into the intake. I am currently running a 160 main jet and a 45 slow jet with stock carb. Thanks --Nik |

Assuming your exhaust is installed correctly - your jetting is too lean you should be at 170 main - your slow is fine - did you shim your needle - this is assuming under 3500 altitude. If you lived in higher altitudes all the time I would suggest 44/165. Of course a dyno always is best for dialing in jetting. From your jetting alone I would say your too lean - the poping(asuming good exhaust assembly) would be a sign of it. Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! edited by ezblast on August 16, 2003 |

I am in low-altitude, most of the time. I just go up and down the Washington state coastline mostly. I followed your advice and went to 45/170. The exhaust sounds more "full" after it's warmed up, and no more popping. I am going to have it Dyno'ed as soon as I find a cheaper place to have it done. Last place charged me $90 plus a $10 supply fee and could'nt even calculate my torque! It's strange how the Dynojet Jet-kit instructions say you need to lean it out when you add a High flow intake. That seems kind of backwards. They actually suggest a 45/155 set when aftermarket intake & exhaust are used! --Nik |

I'm sure your OK now if its a stock 170 jet. Just updated the links section - if you can't find it there then it hasn't been made - concerning motorcycle stuff that is - lol - also updated the Thumper KV carb section header to include jetting and common carb modifications - enjoy! - Got Thump?! Okay, I have a general question. As far as security, do you guys (especially EZ, as we're in the same general area) use an alarm system, disc locks, or what? Or anything, for that matter. I'm not afraid of it being stolen from my place, but sometimes I have to leave it parked on the street for extended periods, not always in the best of neighborhoods, and I get a little nervous. Any input would be appreciated. TIA... Scott |
