EZ rode by today and let me "try out" his modified Blast. WOW... Didn't relize you could get a Blast to go as well as his. Seems I now have the "bug" full on to get my Stock Blast a bit more Umph! Starting out with a V&H pipe, some carb jets, and getting rid of some of the CA "extras". Thanks for the ride EZ! Sean

Thanks Sean - I really enjoyed taking a look at that Kenda of yours also.I was worried about tread groove width but it looks fine, in fact it looks factory issued (hint - hint - Erik). Welcome to the Dark side! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ edited by ezblast on August 28, 2003 |

Carb work - jetting and shimming and a few other tweeks, exhaust, intake - the usual - if you budget it right you could throw in a hi comp piston as well. EZ |

Exhaust is the biggest bang for your buck. The single easiest and most noticeable performance increase. You'll tune your carb to that and really smile! |

Ebay the exhaust, get the piston and rings from our sponsor - Revolution Performance, and pick your intake - none is that expensive, Irridium plug to cap it off, carb work is just that - carb parts are really cheap. EZ |

Revolution had 10.5:1 Blast pistons on ebay for $100 a few days ago - over now, but maybe relisted, or available by phone. |

Exhaust....Jardin header and exhaust to start with and when the can packs out (about a year of regular riding) replace the can with a Supertrap disk style exhaust can....just mount it using the Stock Hardware plus a couple of rubber washers at the front. For the rear with a Supertrap you will need to fiddle a bit but it's not hard to make it match up. Build an intake like mine or like EZ's |

Okayyyyyyyyyy. Thanks for the info on the exhaust, very different from the other board so I'm glad I got a second opinion from the two of you. But , Uhhhhh, the intake. Build one like yours? A little more info please or I'll probably strap a beer can on the end of the carb and call it a day. |

Why don't I go with the super trap from the beginning though? Seems like a waste of money to have a Jardin for only one year, and I ride my bike every day to work so i will probably pack it out quicker. And why don't you like the D&D exhaust? Do you get more low end from the Jardin? |

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure that the Jardine has a larger diameter primary tube (header) and has the least amount of aggressive bends. As far as I know SuperTrapp doesn't make a header for the P3, the can used is a "universal" style. Long story short, you get the best of both worlds with regards to low noise (VERY relative) and peak power across the powerband. How'd I do guys? |

The Jardine header is great, but the can will only last so long - as with the V&H can - however, the D&D can is great, their header not so great - you put the two together - the Jardine header and the D&D can, and you have something greater than the sum of its parts - a wildly great exhaust system. See the carb intake section in the TKV for intake options. EZ (Message edited by ezblast on October 18, 2008) |

Craig - Otir-pilot showed on his Uly - so while waiting for me to work on a part - to lone him, I told him to take the toy out for a test ride - his smile getting off the bike was all I needed to see - she is that much fun. He tried the other one laughing at the noise with earplugs on! Stiff shifting at first, it smoothed out - and he got an idea of the Forces ability - lol - as much fun as he got out of those rides, was paid off in spades when he said his friend had a shop to heal a gentle curve in my Laverda/Jota bars - courtesy of my step kids get off - he's ok - - yahoo - the XBBlast now has bars! - the CR bars going on the Dailly driver. EZ, Thanks again for the BBQ and for getting to ride the two monsters you have in the garage. Now all I can think about is that Force exhaust. Talk about loud and strong. The two Blasts (or whatever they were) were completely different from my stock Blast. I really liked the bike with the Force exhaust because of all the noise it made. I had no idea a Blast could sound that nice. Maybe the local muffler man here could duplicate one with the dimensions you posted in the straight pipe exhaust forum. More than anything on your two bikes, this is what really caught my attention. The first bike was neat for this reason, but also because it had a very straight up riding posture I found a lot more comfortable and more agile over my stock. At the same time, I liked the sport-riding posture of the second Blast which gave it a completely new feel. The only thing I didn't particularly like about each of the bikes was the shifter, but that's how I always feel when I get on a new bike with a different shifting foot position than what I'm used to on my Yamaha and Blast (more time on those bikes would probably change my mind). That's definitely not attributed to any lack of talent or expertise on your part of making those bikes. On the contrary, I had no idea that the Blast was capable of taking off as fast as those two did. There was so much more power all throughout the power-band. With all the changes you made and the substantial differences in performance, I'm surprised Erik Buell hasn't hired you on as a head mechanical engineer. You've definitely mastered the Blast, and in doing so you've changed my low level of interest in upgrading the Blast to having a lot of motivation for making some upgrades, starting with putting on a Force-duplicated or Poor-mans Force exhaust. That was absolutely amazing what a beast that guy was. Who needs to blow a bunch of money on a big V-twin when you can make something better and more ferocious out of the highly customizable Blast? Yeah, a big V-twin sounds a little better, but if I can get V-twin growl on a Blast, you bet I'm going to work towards that. Drop the idle down and it'll sound like a midnight prowler on the move. I've got to get this Blast back together and start duplicating some of the mods you have on your Blasts. Those things don't ride slow like stockers. Very nice work there. Very nice indeed. |

Thank you Wes - it was good seeing you and the tools - finished my own Isolator - didn't have the cool custom steel spacers like yours - but I'll make due - the grade on all the bolts is now 8.8 - at least thats what the bolts and nuts said - using the same Isolator you are - the HD/Buell one - A Blast truly can be a Blast - its why I always tell folks, before buying a whole new bike, try modifying this puppy first - what have you got to loose - if you do it long term its not that expensive and you can tell the difference each mod makes in the bike, and rider - lol EZ |
