I'm a new member here, and I don't currently own a Buell Blast. -I had to list one in my profile so I could register. I have to say that you've got quite a knowledge base of information on the Blast. I've tried to read as much as I can about these things and I really like them. I'm not new to MC's. I've been riding for over 20 years and have owned and ridden a variety of bikes. My last was a KLR 650, and that hooked me -I love thumpers. The shudder, the shake, the throb, the putt, the low-rev torque...love it. I'm looking at joining FSSNOC. Google them if you haven't heard of them. I'm wondering if there is a listing of things to look for when buying a used Blast. I'd seen one and can't find it again. I'm shopping now, and try to have my research ducks in a row before I show up and try to haggle without being able to point to "that needs fixing" type item that will reduce the seller's confidence in their price. Is there such a list?? Thanks in advance!! -Also, I'm not sure how the forum organization works, as I've not seen one setup like this before. Any tips? |

I read through the FAQ list a couple of times and didn't see what I'm looking for. There's about 12 pages of why I shouldn't by a 600 sportbike, but I couldn't find an inspection list. |

There is a helova lot of good information there, but I see your point. The information you seek, is here... somewhere. I'm going to start a new thread "Tips on buying a used Blast" under the FAQ/new riders thread and we'll see where it goes. Might not help you now, but future potential Blast owners. {unless of course there already is a likewise thread, then I'll post a link} (Message edited by gearheaderiko on March 14, 2008) |

Hey, Thanks Gearheaderiko!! I'm in the market, but have to wait for a roofing and an AC contractor to take my money first. ________ I AM made of money and that's why it hurts so much to have it peeled away from me. |

Anyone know where I can get the service manual for a 2002 blast for less than $60? So far this is the only place I've been able to find it: http://www.repairmanual.com/motorcycles/2002/12/0/ 10161/3027 I'm more than happy to pay for it, however if anyone knows where I can get it cheaper that would be cool too I'm ready to get the new bike out of the garage and would like to do the oil change myself. I also need to get new tires on it and since there are no shops near by I'm probably just going to remove the tires and take them in to get changed.(plus I hear it's cheaper this way too) Also, just out of curiosity, I've used Chilton books in the past as a service manual for 4-wheeled vehicles I've owned. Does anything like this exist for motorcycles, and more specifically Buell's? Thanks in advance! |

I guess you'll no longer "be different". Good prices are available on used Buells too! |

Yes they sell Chiltons for motorcycles, but I've never seen anything other than a factory manual for the Blast. |

Krid80, why are you selling? Dummkauf, why not learn to change the tire by yourself? They are pretty easy to do. Tire spoons and a static balancer will run less than $100 and it will payfor itself many times over. Also you can order the tires for less than your local store can get them for. |

"Also you can order the tires for less than your local store can get them for." Maybe, maybe not. Pays to do the research on this one. Some shops will mount the tires for free or very little if you buy the tires from them. Sometimes the savings is so little (ordering them yourself and mounting and balancing them) thats its hardly worth the time and trouble. It can cost you more if you order the tires yourself, then take them to get them mounted and balanced. So do check to see if its worth your time to do it yourself. Its almost always cost effective to remove the wheels yourself (though even some places, usually for dirt bikes, will do this for 'free'). |

PS on the repair manual. 99492-02Y denotes an 02 manual. 03Y would be 2003, 08Y would be 2008. Dealers usually stock the most recent manual available. |

I know I will, but finances where they are won't allow two bikes. I will miss hanging out here too. If I am ever in the bay area I will look you up. who knows. maybe the bike won't sell and I will have it longer. |

Swampy, never thought about doing it myself, however I am still going to have to call around and check prices first and see whether or not it's worth the hassle. I've heard stories online about shops charging $70 just to mount and balance and tire that was bought from them, which seems like robbery since I can get my car tires done for about $10-$15, or free if I buy them from the same place. I'm gonna have to call around and see what I can find, and if nothing else I'll give it a shot myself |

Bike tires (chain/belt/drive shaft breaks and so on) are a bit more involved to change than car (4-12 lug nuts). If a bike place changes em for free the labor has to be built into the tire price. If u bring them the rim and they charge $70, thats a bit of the old bend over and see how this feels. O u like it, feel free to bring you bike in for a $70 oil change, free KY with that one. HEHE, try getting the oil on a vstar 1100 changed, they pull the exhaust to get to the filter.... Really bad design. |

If you can remove and install the wheel from the bike you can change the tires. |

Pretty new here. Want to start with a thank you! I've been reading the posts for a couple(?)of weeks now to learn. I finally got the 2003 Buell Service Manual for the P3 Blast Model today - but, I'm looking for a hands on teacher and I'm willing to PAY CASH. Anyone in the Merced/Modesto/Fresno/Mariposa areas? I can drive farther if need be. I'll study the book, of course, but could really use a hands on teacher. I've been riding since about 1986; (first bike was a 1980 Yami, 650 Maxim) just recently bought my 2003 Blast, used and abused by the prior owner and I am having step up to the plate and do it myself. I expect I'll have the Fresno Buell Dealership do a tune-up and safety inspection, etc. to get me started. I've put a few miles on it and it seems to be running great, but knew it needed fluids changed, new tire, etc. I thought I was draining the oil (no book at that time and no one who knows Buells here that I've been able to find) but appears I drained the trans! I think that was before I emailed you, EZ - LOL. I've got the filter and correct oil, but am too intimidated at this point to go into the clutch cover by myself. Any takers? FYI 52 y.o. female, so be nice! LOL LOL at self |

Welcome Cath! There really isnt any such thing as a tune up anymore and they'd probably charge you a mint to do one. The bikes running good and you can change what little they would change yourself. A safety inspection isnt a bad idea. They of course may try to sell you on a bunch of unneeded items. Just say no and/or check in here first. Your equidistant between me and EZ and I dont know anyone in your area. I think we can get you by online though. We also do have a couple of well accomplished females on the board who I'm sure would be willing to help you (sometimes woman to woman gets things explained better). |

I'm moving to Antioch in a few months - so then it would be a straight drop down, right now though I'm in SF and the ride down would be basically freeways - no fun - however, if your totally dead in the water type of thing, let me know and if I can't show, I'll find someone who can. EZ |

Hey Cath - if you wan't to drive to SF I can show you off of my bikes how simple it all is, that should'nt take too long and I promise it won't be boring - email me if your interested. Find the hose located squarely in front of the starter - first making sure your primary is as empty as it can be - get a large kitchen funnel and fit it to the other end of that hose you found - the crankcase breather hose - put the plug in with o-ring (perhaps a few times round with plumbers teflon tape if o-ring looks worn) and torque to speck, now pour 1 qt of 15/50 Mobil 1 very slowly and I mean very slowly in - it will take a while - listen to some music, enjoy a few songs - lol - then put hose back when thoroughly empty and drained into primary.
