Yea ... she's the best. I knew I had found a keeper when before we were married we were wandering through Costco one day and we stopped and looked at engagement rings they had. I pointed to one that was $3000 and she said "hell no ... that's a plasma TV" ... |

I went ahead and picked mine up on Friday. First thing I did was remove the decals I like the new ones better - do you guys know of any good decal sites? Any ideas on how to get used to not having a gas gauge? |

Just run it until it dies, then switch to reserve and catch the next gas station. I've only run out completely once! |

I stop every hour/70-90 miles depending on where the gas stations are. When I first got my Sportster the knob for the fuel valve was not engaged in the slot on the fuel valve. The valve was in the on position no matter where I put the knob. I almost died pushing the Sportster about a block and a half one time. |

Reuel, almost did that today on accident. Rode the bike for the first time today. The bike started to hesitate and then died. I thought I either I got a bike with problems or that I did something wrong. Switched to reserve and it started up fine. When I got home, I shook the tank and the gas sloshed so I thought it had more than the reserve so I went out again.... died again Bought more gas then and it was fine. Like I said, I'm going to have to get used to this. Swampy, when the bike initially died I thought I would have to do just that. I'm a fairly small girl so I'm sure our experiences would have been the same. Trying to push it up my driveway sucked (Message edited by felicita on March 08, 2008) |

Felicita; Congrats on finding your Blast! You'll find tank mileage is fairly consistent as in you'll usually go about the same number of miles before you hit reserve. Planning on hitting a gas station every 100 miles is a good idea. If you go out to the desert (death Valley, Vegas, tc.),you'll have to plan your gas stops carefully. You'll get used to not having a gas gauge and using your tripometer instead. |

Here's an question of opinions on LEDs: If you were going to put LEDs on your Blast, would you go with a cluster of, say, 8 or 12 LEDs that were really bright, or would you be happier with two or four that were even brighter? Here's my project page. They're ready to go, but I'm just wondering what a person might want. Opinions, regardless of if you actually want some. |

Could that tail light combo work with the proven after-market signals - I like the tail light idea, however, I like the signals I'm using now in favor of a stock style look. EZ |

If your signals are LEDs and draw less than 500 miliamps each, they should work just fine. |

Ok, so i rejeted the carb using a kit, modded the air box with the ez mod, put in a k and n filter, replaced the exhaust. i now have hot start problems. no problem starting when cold, only hot. So i am guessing im still running rich. when i get home ill pull the cleaner off and see how it runs to make shure. if it is rich what would the fix be? fuel air screw, main jet, or slow jet? |

WOW! It's been a while...coming outta hibernation. I got a repack kit for the V&H but that can is a mess as is the header...all rusted. I'm seriously considering the Jardine system. Is that the best cheap system other than the crap V&H? I noticed that American Sportbike only caries the Kerker and the V&H. |

Is the Jardine header made of plain steel or stainless? |

I would hope stainless...it's getting hard to find exhausts for the Blast. |

Jardine system - stainless - use stock Blast front lower mounting hardware for longevity. Enjoy! EZ |

Jardine system can be made to last the longest. Send the header out for a ceramic coating and repack the can with blast furnace insulation (it lasts way way way longer) 2 years (of year round riding) on mine with nearly no increased sound. |

Hard to start when it's hot usually points to a lean condition. Try your idle mix screw on the bottom of the carburetor and see if that helps starts without opening the throttle. Somewhere on this board there are details on how to read your spark plug for fuel air mix. |

Going over the results of lean and rich jetting makes me think im running rich. Its a good read if any one wants to read up on carb jetting. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/tech/motorcycle_j et_kits_carburetion/index.html |

your never asked on THUMPer if you checked the engine timing to make sure it is correct, just put in different jets ... |

Gbaz: Go over what you done. If it ran fine before, doing the mods you've just done shouldnt drastically affect starting, unless you've really messed something up (including jetting). Whats the jetting/new carb adjustments? Did you do everything at once? You can always go back to stock jetting then see what happens. What you've done isnt that drastic, so you shouldnt need drastic changes in jetting and it would probably run and start okay with stock jetting. Just some thoughts. PS Dont go changing things you havent touched to try and fix a new problem. Stick with what you've worked on (IE dont go messing with the timing if it wasnt part of your recent mods that caused the problem.) |

I followed the jet kits instructons except for the mix screw. I did the 2 1/2 turns the knowledge vault called for (even though i was using the dyno jet kit...), and i think it was just too rich at closed throttle. backed it off untill the idle dropped a little too much then raised it to make it smooth and not it looks like thers no longer the starting problem. The kit called out 2 turns and now i actually have it a little under 2 turns. one day im going to find a dyno around here and do it right. |

there is the FUEL/AIR Gauge you can put together with parts from J.C.Whitney which gives REAL WORLD readings as you ride ... |
