Hey guys, I've already made a few posts under the "tank graphics" thread, but I figured I'd make a more formal introductory post here. I'm Phoebe, I'm 36 and I've been riding since about 1992. I've owned a few old Hondas, and my current ride (well, till I got the Blast!) is a 1970 CB100 SS. I've had her for about 10 years now, and I plan on keeping her for the rest of my life. She's really fun to take on the backroads around where I live and is extremely nimble (under 200 pounds dry!), and even capable of getting over 70mph on a flat road...at least with me riding her anyway. I've really wanted to commute to work on my bike, but unfortunately, my little Honda doesn't quite have enough power to keep up with traffic on the highway, especially on hills (though I do take her for short stints on the highway occasionally). So, I had been searching around for a reliable, inexpensive, more powerful motorcycle that was preferably not um...35+ years old! The Blast fit the bill quite nicely, and obviously I am fond of singles. My "new" Blast is a yellow 2002 with 1600 miles on it, and I paid $1750 for it, which I thought to be a pretty good deal. It's in great shape, though in a need of a wash, that's for sure. So far my plans are to definitely change those silly handlebars (I did it on my CB100 and it made a world of difference) and get new mirrors (probably bar ends), and then see what I want to do from there. I'm thinking there's rearsets in my future... Anyway, that's me and my Blast . I've been doing a lot of poking around on the board here and you folks really seem to know your stuff! Thanks for having this incredible resource available. Oh yeah, here's a picture of my lil' Honda, "Baby": (Message edited by phoebe on January 24, 2008) |

Welcome to the Thumper madness - I see that you are already falling into the Dark side with thoughts of modifications - don't worry we serve milk and cookies with our madness - lol - again - Welcome! EZ |

Thanks, Ez! Yeah, the Dark Side definitely calls me. I also have another little Honda, a 1972 CL100 that's a project bike. It'll become a little cafe racer. I didn't want to modify Baby because she's in such great shape (I bought her from the original owner!) But anyway, I can definitely see myself modifying my Blast. I always have to give my toys my own personal touch |

Welcome again! Generally I delete most new threads as they are usually redundant. I think this ones a keeper! Not big on rice, but that is one 'perfect' ride. I have some respect for old jap bikes (even though they paved the way for the demise of many 'marques') and a lot of respect for someone still running an old small single. My first street bike was a 1965(?) Honda 50, as it was for many others. Found in the woods long before I was old enough for a license, never registered, it was passed through the hands of many friends. Got stolen a few times as I'm sure it was when I found it. Probably still out there somewhere! ...and it could wheelie! |

Yeah, riding a little old single definitely has its pros and cons. It's easy to maintain and has been quite reliable for me, though it does need frequent (minor) attention due to its age. It's very nimble, as I've said, and I always have a ton of fun on it on the backroads here. I just sort of slip into a groove with her around 50mph. And, of course, it certainly turns heads. It looks like a 3/4 scale CB750 with 3 cylinders missing, and it sounds the business, that's for sure. I feel very lucky to have it. But, on the other hand, I can't wait to be riding a bike with more power and I can safely take on the highway without worrying about being blown off by a 18 wheeler or something. And I still have that wonderful, familiar thump that I love My little CB will still be my backroads burner and relegated to street use, and the Blast doing everything the CB can't. |
