Yes they are the safest, longest life, and very sticky when warmed up - Will be running these on the red BlastMaul soon. For the stickiest - though a short life - the Pirrelli are king and I will continue to run them on black BlastVader for serious weekend cornercarving. Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Has anyone tried the Maxxis V1 Tire on the Blast? They make a it in 120/80-16 and its V-rated with multi-rubber compounds to increase life. Just wondering. -chuck |

Maxis are Taiwanese, so defiant/rogue Chinese tires. Not so bad as the communist tires. |

I didn't realize that Maxxis was a Taiwanese company. It sounds like nobody has tried these tires. Just looking for other tire options that fit the Blast. It would be nice to have a little bit wider tire on the back. -chuck (know the feeling - lol - Moderator) edited by ezblast on July 01, 2003 |

The good news: I got over 5000 miles out of the Avon tyre, and could probably get a couple hundred more. The bad news: When I pulled the rear wheel, the drive side bearing fell out... It had spun! The wheel has some serious wear. The bearing measures 1.850 (46.99 mm), and the wheel measures 1.876! That's .026 clearance. (For all you laymen, that's about 7 sheets of paper.) The funny thing is, the wheel bearing is fine. First thing tomorrow morning, my (semi) local Buell dealer is getting a call. I really hope that they treat this as a warranty item (my warranty runs out on the 6th!). If they don't I'll probably sleeve the wheel. Wish me luck, James |

Now that I've had a chance to really look at the failed stuff, the bearing is forked too... not a big deal. Just thought I'd correct by earlier post. James |

Dropped my baby off today, I'll be getting a new wheel. I'm also having them look at (read fix) the head gasket that is starting to weep oil again... James |

If I am not mistaken, Blast wheels have a clear coat on 'em. If so ... I'd only use products that are made for painted finishes. Personally, I have always found excellent results with Meguiars http://www.meguiars.com/ products. You might try a paint/body scrub or cleaner followed up with a polish then wax. If the wheels are not clear coated like the PMs found on my S2, then the Mother's aluminum polish or Never Dull should do the trick. You'll get a black residue immediately when using these on aluminum. Like it's pulling a slight oxidized layer of aluminum up that appears black. Uncoated aluminum will polish up to a mirror finish. If I am not mistaken S100 and simple green will stain/streak bare aluminum. DAve edited by dave on July 09, 2003 |

About that Maxxis(Cheng Shin) V1 tire that Mx114g posted. That is a FRONT tire ! Cannot use on the back of the Blast. I just thought you should know that. The closest tire that Cheng Shin/Maxxis makes, that might fit the rear in their C6000 Barracuda V in size 130/80-16. Like the one that Aaron sold, and we're still waiting to hear word back on if it fits ? |

Littleone, I've had great success with using S100 and a soft brush. Wal-Mart and most auto-parts stores sell wheel brushes for cleaning alloy car wheels. I haven't needed to use more than minimal "elbow grease" and mine clean-up just fine. When using S100 it is very important to wash the bike in the shade and to make sure that you rinse it all off. Any risidue left will streak and is very hard to get off. I use the same S100 and soft brush on the engine as well and it keeps the engine nice and bright. If you want that nice new look to the black engine parts apply a small amount of WD-40 after washing the bike, works well, hint do not apply with a paper towel or linty rag. Another cheap tip for making those painted black parts look nice after cleaning is- Spray Lemon or Orange Pledge /furniture polish on them. This also works good on other shiney plastic Blast bodywork as well, but it may leave spots if not polished off good. It won't hurt any parts, but keep away from tires and brake rotors. |

I agree with you 100%, that WD-40 does the trick for shining engine parts Ray. I love WD-40 for doing that and it doesn't hurt the engine when it gets hot, it just burns off. On my MX bike I had an unpainted exhaust that would look rusty after washing until I used the old WD-40 trick! True, that Maxxis tire was a front tire, my bad. |

It's powdered silicone in some kind of liquid carrier. Most HD dealers carry it. |

Littleone, If the wheels are that tarnished, then try semi-chrome. It comes in a squeeze tube. It's the best metal polish I've ever found. Another trick I learned a long time ago is to use a very cheap toothpaste. It's very mild in abrasiveness and works well to take off ozidation. While I'm giving out family secrets, if you want to get white leather clean and new looking, use cheap shaving cream. My daughter's basketball shoes stay new looking through the whole season. Ray |

Nope, pig snot is a wax made by Rich Urban Bikers. No, really, that's the name of the company. It works pretty good too. |

I use High Gloss ArmorAll on the plastic and I also use their leather protector/conditioner on the seats, Prestone Alum. wheel cleaner & a brush, Foamy and regular engine brite for the metal, Brake cleaner on the rotors - once a week and always carry a clean rag - lol - Got Thump?! The polished edge of the Blast Wheels is clear coated I believe. So using some cleaners may take the clear coat off. The rough part of the spokes is not clear coated, but hard to get much of a shine one. Powdercoating the wheels might be the hot ticket. -chuck |

I got about 100 miles on it and it's feeling pretty good, however, it is touted as a "cruiser" tire. I'm assuming hard compound / long mileage. I do a 40+ mile commute everyday, so it's not such a bad thing, but we'll see how it is in the corners this weekend. I'll keep you posted. |

Thanks Carcass, this IS NEWS ! It must be a really new tire as I haven't seen it listed before. Please keep us posted to it's wear characteristics as well. Btw, I'm guessing it was a fairly (comparitively) low cost tire ? I've used the Cheng Shin tires and was hoping there C6000 in size 130/80-16 would fit, but still no word back on that. But your combo is on and turning....gotta love that ! Thanks.. |
