I'm assuming the car hit your rear wheel? The swingarm is attached directly to the engine and the engine is attached to the frame with rubber mounts. In just about any hard collision the engine gets jarred about in the frame, usually leaving the tiebar bolt marks in the engine. |

Welcome to the board Tkblast! Glad you are all right, that could have been a disaster! Like Gearheaderiko said, check the engine mounts front and rear. |

So as a new motorcyclist I'm taking it easy, riding in my neighborhood, going slow, trying to get all the controls to feel natural. Riding around my block is nice 1 uphill, 1 downhill, 1 stop sign, and a half cul-de-sac, very limited traffic. I think I am ok, but fate chooses today for me to get my very first near miss. There I am in 2nd gear going slow, in lane 2 of my side of the road. Up ahead about 2 houses I see a car driven by a blonde teenage girl. She starts to back out of her driveway. I get closer, she stops at the end of her driveway, looks me straight in the eye, and turns to look the other direction. Now I am even closer, without looking back in my direction she starts to pull out. I pulled both brakes hard stopping as she continues to back up. I stopped about half a car length to her driver’s side rear door. At this point she looks back in my direction, turns her wheels and drives away. LIKE I WAS NOT EVEN THERE!.... She didn't even look to says hey sorry. I am even riding during the day with my HIGH BEAMS ON. I bet if I were in my truck she would not have done that! I guess there is truth to the whole ‘a car driver looks for cars, not motorcycles!’ I will remember this next time a person does not look back before continuing to move. |

Congrats on surviving the first of many lessons. She may have seen you and not cared. Around here some have the attitude that they know you'll move (or stop) because if you dont, you'll get hurt. Pretend you're invisible and if in any doubt, USE YOUR HORN. Better they use their finger to flip you off than to call an ambulance (if they even stop). |

Just got back from another practice session (no incidents), I must have read it 50 times before, but I really believe it now! Erik, Think my clutch dragging fixed itself. I did not notice it at all this evening. I will still apply some cable lube after it gets here. |

The silence I feel - the peace in riding I get in the act of riding - I smile and reflect - the canopy of trees flowing by has me thanking God for the beauty around me, the new job - though I know it will be hard, my wifes health after her quad hernia surgery, my friends recent marriage, and all the other things that have had a hand in forming my life this year - it had gotten a little edgy this year - swapping jobs and wifes surgery was rough but I think I'll do ok - both bikes are now well tuned and my black bike was flawless today - the shadows I casted on the coastal walls as I flew by made me smile - who was this rider tilted so low - sometimes I passed him - sometimes he raced past me -the sun setting to my left - a fiery orb touching the ocean - all so smooth on my mind - the decell burble, the roaring acceleration - the dynamic balance between bike and man in the twisties - so good to be alive and riding - alone this time - my speeds are a bit faster - not having to wait for others - hardly any braking, and the cool sunny summer day was priceless! A last thought - though I am very happy to be in Cycle Worlds online mag - one thing stated was incorrect - I am not alone in contributing here - though I am in every Blast board I can find - I am still just a person posting - it is all of you contributing here in the thumper section that have made it a learning experience for me to share where I can with other Blastards - it is all of you I have counted as tutors and finally friends who have contributed who make this forum - again I thank you! This is pretty cool though -

Amen Buellistic - there ARE curves in Florida, you just need to know where to go to find them. And granted, the road may not be 11 miles long but if you find enough of them to put together, well, you got yourself a multi-part Dragon! BTW - heading to Daytona (staying up in St. Augustine)on Friday, but if I am in the area across from Speedway at one of the two times your group is going to be there, will stop by and say Hi. |

OUCH! My step-son who I have been teaching riding did a low speed hi-side when he target fixated and grabbed a hand full of brakes! He was in full gear and is a bit sore, but he'll be fine! The red bike on the other hand is going to need some work to make her right again - I'll probably turn her all Black now, will have to get body work, parts, etc - to make her right again, so for a few weeks the Black bike is going to pull double duty and really rack up some miles - not the way I was thinking of breaking in the new tire - I got 3500 out of the old and am very happy with that. The only sigh of relief is the fact that the Force exhaust survived intact - amazing for how fragile it is supposed to be. Ahh well - the end of an era and the beginning of Insidious XBBlast and the new Vader - lol - still I'd be happier if it never happened, I had just left church that very day on the red thinking that the bike is pretty much done as a project and I was very happy with the results over all - sigh - still it will be a bit slow in its rebirth - Christmas time and all - thats life! Sorry to hear about the bike but I'm glad your step-son is OK. I'm curious though, is he really sore from the fall or was it the father? LOL When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I can't wait to see what you brew up next. |

Naw - he's just sore from the fall, he's the youngest captain of a paintball team in the area - so he's pretty tough - he felt real bad about it - so I'll have him help me put it back to rights - I really will miss the red bike as a color, but blacks easier to keep up and hide scratches on anyway - so now both will soon be Black. - Better that way when you consider the parts I'll be swapping around when the current Black bike gets converted into Insidious - lol - its always something - GT - JBOTDS! Is that Force pipe still available? Will the bike be down long? Maybe long enough to take the pipe to the little Amish metal shop I know about? |

Sorry Swampy - only a few weeks - besides if I where to copy any of them - it would be the LSR header to the 3" extension then the 4" Supertrapp at 12 discs - this baby rips - seriously - If the Blast is even in 1 more year of mfg. I will take it to Terry P myself and ask him to do a limited run - this puppy is sweet - everything you want and quiet to boot! Heck - I have to figure a way to see him - I have his number - heck I'll call him - when Jim gets back from his trip - Email him and ask him - he's ridden on 6 different exhausts on a Blast (Bub, D&D, WB, Kerker, the Force and the LSR and he'll tell you - the LSR delivers and is quiet! I'll try to figure out a sound-bite for it so you can hear its tone - It covers from top to bottom - one strong ass pull all the way up! GT - JBOTDS! Like "i" said, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE "NOISE" TO MAKE "TORQUE/HORSE POWER" !!! Take a "HINT" from Erik Buell as he has been designing QUALITY exhaust systems for years for street BUELLs !!! "AND" he left it to those who know how to get the most out of the OEM exhaust system !!! (Message edited by buellistic on October 30, 2007) |

Target fixated and grabbed a hand full of brakes - up, up, and away! The bike flipped twice, and the boy did a skillful paint-ball slide, to hop up, shaking his head in embarassment. I wish the bike had gotten off so easily. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Decisions, decisions - wife is all about trading the red bike in for a CityX, I say fix the red into a black - in-city beater and when I catch a XB Front end - convert it over, and wait and see on what new offering Buell will put out in the future - I have noticed the quality of the Bikes are getting better and better, with almost all the long term issues now solved - are getting harder to resist - the 9 is still in my insurance envelope - lol - I'd never sell the Black - don't even think about it, however, giving the red/now black up is not out of the question - its life always the one to be sacrificed over my black bike which I will keep - period - even if switched over to XB chassis - lol - wait or buy - lol - don't matter - I'm going to do my classic Alice run and check out the new exhausts performance on a distance ride - so far the bracketry I've fabed up is performing flawlessly in rough city conditions, now to see about a bit of mileage - the sound is awesome though, the look classic, and the bike has never been better at 22,000 plus miles - who'd want a Blast thats been owned by me is probably a better question - lol GT - JBOTDS! Yes - but the Blast actually begs to be transformed - to be modified in so many different ways - the XB's now just need better mirrors and perhaps a drop in weight and thats about it - though folks will personalize to what they want. This years improvements are really impressive - the motors have really been beefed up for durability to handle power in longevity. Issues such as main bearings, oil pump gears, head gear, etc. - all addressed in impressive fashion - they are definitely built for the long haul now. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |
