The hard tale frame is very well done, and a nice usage of stock parts as well! I'd still have to get used to that seat though! GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Ive come across a possible donner bike to use for the frame on a Blast Bobber project. Its not perfect, but it was free.
I hope to get the look of Crossroads chopper or a Triumph hardtail:
The frames look pretty close after I put on a hardtail rear sub frame. I will likely have to lengthen the bottom of the frame because the Blast gearbox looks longer. This will be pretty simple to do but will likely take me a long time, all winter at least. Cuz Im a broke dog. But If I get anything worth posting Ill put pictures up. Has anyone run across the issues of getting a custom bike titled? I was told that if I use the fork tube from my frame (with the vin# stamped) I wouldnt have to do anything at all. Ill be using the Blast forks anyway. Of course then I wouldnt be able to sell the frame for salvage. But that sure would make the process easier. |

First it depends on your state laws on how easy its going to be. The frame really isnt worth that much, maybe $100, but its worth more to you if it saves the hassle of 'special construction' titling. Some states are really hard nosed, others give out titles from a vending machine (exaggeration). Also, certain federal laws prohibit modifications. So the completely legal way is to go for special construction and if it gets titled, you're clear. Then you'll have to get it by your/a insurance company. Dont know how easy that will be. The loophole way is to already have it titled and insured (as I'm sure it is now) and just modify it to your hearts content. The engine and frame numbers will match, so there wont be any problems there and most PO's wont know what a Blast is supposed to look like anyway, especially if your title says Harley. I prefer the loophole option especially since the Blast isnt a high value bike. FWIW California takes the approach of 'build it, then we'll see about titling it'. Not a real comfortable way to go especially since the bike I needed to title was built in 1956 and it would have been a lot of time and money on something I might not be able to ride. |

Good points. I guess thats why the suggestion was made to me to use the fork neck tube. That way at least the numbers match. Then its considered "modified" not a new build. And who the heck is gonna know the Blast should have a square tube frame? With all that said,Im toying with the idea of using the stock frame much like the all red "Tractors little Brother" posted above. But its got to look more like a Triumph though. I doubt I can pull that off. |

The nice thing about the Blast frame is that once you use an oil tank, you've got all that frame to weld and bolt to. I think you can come pretty close to the Triumph. I think a lot will depend of if you try to keep it rubber mounted. That will limit it. I'm assuming cost is a factor, but a cheap Sportster hardtail frame can be had new for $900. Less for used and sometimes ebay. Once your frame modification (and resulting consequences) approaches $900, getting another frame might be the easier way to go. The 'Buell' hardtails are still a little pricey, but coming down. Good luck and keep us posted. (Message edited by gearheaderiko on December 03, 2007) |

Thats why I left mine. Still titled as a Blast. Stock wheels, frame, engine, and front end, technically its a blast with a different tank, and seat. http://www.hootis.com/farmuell/ |
