I cut it apart in my horizontal bandsaw at each of the end plates within the exhaust. 3 cuts in all. I basically gutted the shell, fabricated the end plate (shown) and one internal end-plate. Cut holes in each and installed a perforated core. Mig welded the internal end plate in the shell just rear of the first seam, and tig welded the shell segments back together. I packed the cored area with stainless steel wool and fiberglass packing and finally tig welded the rear end plate on. I robbed the stainless tip off of a V&H can I had and tigged that on as well. All segments were tack welded while the pipe was installed. I discarded the last approx 4" of the stock pipe. This job was kind of labor intensive and to make it easy, it helps to have a weld shop. It works very well, sound is good, not obnoxious. A dyno may disagree, but the stock unit is not hard to outperform. It works good for its purpose and that's my wife's ride. Sorry, no pics of fabrication....my wife said I should, but, figured that nobody would be interested. My bad. Kenny

You mean a dual type set-up? Or do you mean to bypass the triple pass baffling? I chose not to take the quick rout and just bypass, instaed revamping the exhaust entirely to my liking. I have the equipment, so why-not? I also posted these pics in the knowlege vault where they belong......oops.

well i used cheap 99 cent a can spray paint this time so i probably be doing mine again.
but normally i use car spray can paint from the auto parts store, and no matter weather your using cheap or expensive paint you still have to primer color then clear coat.

and just for fyi , the automotive spray paint is way more forgiving when i comes to durability scratch resistance and also sandability bettween coats, helpfull for mistakes , dust runs ect, but also sanding the paint between coats will give you a flawlessy glossy smooth paint not wavey.

I used apliance epoxy by rustoleum.. From any hardware store. It doesnt require priming, just a light sanding. It is very glossy and very durable. For instance, how many scratches do you see on a refrigerator?

It dries a bit slow but once it is, its hard as heck.

thats why i prefer the car paint, it dries extreamly fast, 5-10 min per coat and can clear it in 45min, but you really need to prime. and it is scratch resistant, but not like my fridge!

XB fairing is to big for the bike - knew it when I thought about it - those twin lights must be Pia or a clone - too small to be the other - looks nice and I'll bet brighter - lol

It is not that HEAVY in referance to other after market fairings !!!

"AERODYNAMICS" is what counts !!!

Didn't say heavy - though it still is - said too big - there is a difference - sure its aerodynamic it should be - its the biggest part of the bike - lol

I kinda like it. I think its too far forward though. Maybe it wouldnt look too big if it set back further.

I dont know if it could fit that way, but it would look better. Id like to get a closer look at the mounts.

I used to think my old fairing a bit big also - still it did the job, looked nice doing it and had great lighting!

I like it too! Funny thing is, I only had my firebolt for a couple of months before I was wishing I'd bought the lightning instead. It seems to lend itself to customizing better. As far as sitting too far forward,it looks that way on the 'bolt also. I bought a lightning top tree and handlebars and a sport touring windscreen but now need to figure out how to modify the magnesium fairing mount to sit back and up about one inch each.

I was getting tired of having to take that big air box out every time I wanted to switch between the stock ignition and my custom job. I also didn't like the idea of paying so much for a replacement filter. So, I bought something for less than $13 and made it fit.

I then realized the eyesore that my foot peg brackets were. The original finish had rubbed off where my boots rubbed up against them. I figured it was time to do something about them.

So, here it is.
