So I decided I was gonna try the vista cruise(this is the honda model) on my Buell blast. I needed something for when i'm out highway cruising to ease the hand numbness. I also figured if i didnt like it i would then upgrade to the throttle Meister’s barends. So i decided to document my install. The vista cruise is just a throttle tube locking clamp with a thumb Switch. the first thing i had to do was roll the grip back and remove the little ridge that was on the throttle tube near the controls, for the end of the grip to grab. you can see in the pic were i cut the ridge off with the razor knife. then i cut off the mounting tab on the vista cruise put the cruise on the handle so i could gauge were i liked the cruise to sit. and then drilled a small pilot hole in the mounting tab only. then i took apart the controls buy removing the 2 screws in the back so i could look at were the other hole will be in the housing. then i marked the spot were i want the hole with the drill. then after i was sure i liked the placement of the hole i drilled with the small pilot bit through carefully not to hit the throttle cable just behind were i was drilling. now take off the back of the switch housing and drill out the small hole with the bit the size of the bolt your gonna use to bolt on the cruise. and also drill out the vista cruised mounting tab to the same size also. this is were you need to find a fastener to bolt the cruise to the control housing. it needs to be low profile on the inside of the housing as to not interfere with the throttle cables. i found this nice lil threaded insert in my parts bin it was so low profile it was perfect. i have also read that others have used short self tapping screws, i just wasn’t gonna be happy without a positive connection that i could lock tite. here is the insert sticking through the housing, actually glued the insert right in. now put the housing back on the handle bars, i needed to trim the mounting tab on the cruise right here to fit better, for appearance only. screw the cruise on use lock tite if you want i would. put the control housing back together. move and adjust your grip for the added width of the cruise and put the supplied plastic friction washer in between the grip and the cruise. depending on the bike the grip may need to be trimmed. adjust the friction on the cruise so it can still be returned closed when locked and bam nice new anti numb hand device is installed .doesnt really look to bad either. i did how ever mount the cruise so it is in the way of the starter button slightly you have to reach over it a lil, i kinda mounted it in the place were it was most comfortable for my thumb to easily release. but i figure starting the bike is the least important thing to reach on the controls. i put a throttle meister set on. install is easier then Muckerpuck. remove bar end cap, roll back end of grip install friction ring, install end weight and control unit. done in less then an hour. it adds a good inch of end weight to your grip. i love it!! highly recommended. |
