Thanks for the quick responses Eric and Aaron. I will probably pickup the plug, because I need a spare anyway, but skip the wire. Now if my damn taxes didn't go up $1600 bucks and my wife didn't make me spend thousands on central air conditioning this year I would have had enough money for a Nallinized Blastard already! Currently I'm a poor blastard

My previous dealership was devoutly opposed to to V type plugs because of the added clutter they seem to add to a combustion chamber...I use an Irridum plug and noticed an increase in gas milage...not a lot but it was noticible. Denso and NGK both sell them. I did blow a about $14 on a "higher" performance sparkplug wire kit and built them up to the correct size (word of warning to any who want to buy a new spark plug wires, the twin wire are not sized for a blast resulting in either a too short or too long wire).

Yea - I run the Denso also, also made my own wire using a hp napa kit for a 6 cyl. - made four for the car, one for the bike and a back up - lol - in for a penny - lol. According to Nallin the Denso gives you the best burn for your buck though thats one big buck;0) - I got em in both bikes though and the the new stocker I bought runs better with the Denso. Managed to light your bike yesterday, Ray. You know, the one with the 3 one-off parts (hi Blake). Seriously, that head is trick. I wish I woulda nabbed it and it's matching rear for my M2. Goes well with the other trick pieces we got made up special.

I'd get it on the dyno today but Susan really wants to go down to the Superbike races (do I have a great wife or what?)

Does anyone know if a blast wind screen will bolt on to a M2? I would modify the shape, but I want a larger wind screen. I don't want to loose my round headlight.

I was out with my buddy yesterday, whom I taught to ride over the last month using my Blast (he's already taken his road test and got his endorsement, too!), and the damned instrument cluster just snapped right off the Blast while he was riding! Anyone else have something like that happen? Also, any idea what a new one costs or should I just go for creating a bracket of some kind for it? It still works fine, but it snapped right at the mounting points...crappy plastic...these little thumpers rattle around too much for that!

Bryan,

I broke mine when I grazed a deer, more about that some other time. The part cost me under $20 and took about 20 minutes to install.

Well, apparently the dash panel itself is only like $4...hopefully someone around here has one in stock...I'm leaving for the NE tour on my 'bolt on Friday and I'd like the Blast to be in riding trim in case my girlfriend wants to take it out while I'm gone. But if not I'll patronize Waterloo and hand over my $10 for the part to Dave (shipping charges BLOW!...LOL).

Its amazing what changing the bars out does for the ergo's and looks of a stock Blast. The Red is going to be a dailly driver as I get more into the Black technically - so fixing her up inexpensively will be the key this time - with just a bar/grip/mirror switch out to black superbike bars,red/black gell grips,& CRG 2" barend mirrors(L&P are vendors for them) - a hundred total in parts so far, tank bra, plug swap to Irridium, air box mods, and total fluid change out to Mobil the bike becomes a different animal - I had a great time coming to work this morning and on the stocker! A fairing switch to the Vamp, signals to the mini's F & R, exhaust swap and that will leave only the rearsets that I'm still working on designing to build! - these are in her future - and when I'm ready - swap motors with the Black and send that motor to Dr. Nallin for major surgery - lol - Nothing but fun!Got Thump! Well, been gone for a while (out riding as much as I can...but mostly working) So have not posted in a long time. But thought I would at least drop in and say hello to all.

My blast is still running great since the rocker box gasket change, but Dad's is out of comission for a bit. He was riding with a friend, he stopped for a light and his buddy didn't in time. No one hurt, but some minor damage to both bikes (dad's happened to be the rear sprocket...on order now)

We are also trying a larger windshield on his. An aftermarket that we measured against a blast at the local shop. I can post pics later this week if anyone has interest (after we get it on of course <IMG SRC=">)

IX27B Denso Irridium - sparkplug.com, but the dealers are getting hip to them and you should start seeing them at the more progressive dealerships - DP now sells them - but I get them from that web site. they come pre-gapped and head protected in the box - do not try to regap - its not recommended - if the gap isn't at their proper setting(0.035) then exchange them - that is their mfgr. recommended setting for Buells. Nallin recommends them highly also! There is a difference in the engines running quality between using these and the stock HD plug -it was noticable to me right away! Got Thump?! I just put the Pro-Series Split V plugs in my Firebolt...any idea if the Iridiums would work in there and if there would be any difference? Spark plugs are cheap enough that I have no problem switching them...and the rear XB plug was surprisingly easy to change, given that it's buried in the frame. I was dreading doing tht, and it only took me 15 minutes, including taking the airbox off and replacing it. I will definitely get a couple for the Blast, though...I really want to start putting some go-fast, run-better goodies into him!

Sobering Thought For Us All;

Monday night we had a tragedy. To define this post this is not meant to say any of you will do this, but to remind us all that using your head may save your life.

My wife who is an EMT/Respiratory Therapist and works for me who happens to be a Paramedic/Respiratory Therapist happens upon a vehicle crash on her way home from work. It was a young fellow on a MC that struck the back of a van and expired. She stops and assists at said crash then comes home to tell me the story. The following is the story and my deduction of the events.

The lad on the MC (owned for a short 2-3 weeks, first bike, learners permit) was traveling at high speed ( greater than 80 mph within 1/2 mile of small to medium size rural town found himself approaching a midsize van traveling 45 mph. The driver stated that she saw him approaching and his front wheel was wobbling, then he disappeared then struck the rear of her van. He was wearing no safety gear ( i.e. no helmet no jacket, probably wouldn't have made a difference) Rider was found DOA lying bleeding in the middle seat of the van by rescuers.

My read on this is that as a new rider on a high performance sport bike (also known fact as I saw the bike). An inexperienced rider, NO safety gear, unprepared to handle said bike in sudden crisis situation, rider reacted by not leaning the bike to avoid the van. He instead reacted by turning the handlebars which at the high speed caused an uncontrollable high speed wobble. He thus, not being able to control the bike struck the van. Then penetrated the interior and sustained life ending injuries.

Moral, wear safety gear (pretty cheap insurance over time). Learn to ride safely (MSP training ain't a bad idea) Ride within your abilities (remember realizing our faults is a strength not a weakness). We all need these reminders occasionally to just remind us that we are human and mortal (none of us are perfect, we can always learn).

Every one of you is quite important to me. The purpose of this post is to remind all of us to pull our head out of our A#* and ride safely.

Ray

I heard that. Worked for several years as an EMT before my current job. Way too many things like this that could have been avoided with a little common sense and patience.

Howdy to everyone! As my Black Blast gets more exotic and focused for weekend corner carving duty - I wanted a dailly driver for my dailly ride to work and errands - so I bought a red Blast! Being a customizing nut by now and allowing myself only one full blown custom to really focus on still my Red bike will be a dailly driver that I want to take pride in so my goal is to keep this inexpensive - we'll I'll try. First - bought black superbike bars, red and blackgrips, barend mirrors, mirror plugs(for the holes left by the old mirrors), tank bra, and removed inner rear fender/guard, modified air box, K & N filter, Denso Iridium spark plug, custom plug wire (made it my self from custom set for car - 8mm) - total cost $150.00 - looks of the bike - changed forever - much more long reach friendly, cleaner lines and lower profile - looks real nice now I'll post a pic in a few weeks at my bikes webpage - picture page.Future plans for Red BlastMaul include exhaust, jetting, fairing, homemade rear sets, tires, signals, cam - but this time budget priced for a bike soly intended as a dailly driver - but still look good! Already compared to the cost of the counterparts on the other bike - I've saved almost $200.00 for a bike that will in the end look very nice indeed with a planed total expenditure of only a quarter of what I've planed to put in the black! James P. said he'd help someone whip up a conversion - but my question is why? The belt is reliable, clean, and almost universally thought of by other riders as one of the cool things about the bike! I have almost never heard a bad word against them - though one guy did have some bad luck and go thru 3 in short order but those dificulties laid in the fault of a mis-aligned pully - not the belt. Unless your drag racing or going to do nothing but racing - I'd stick with the Belt! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

I am considering racing The Blast. It is AFM 250p legal. Because it is an air cooled two valve single it can race down 1 class. We (AFM) run on different tracks requiring different gearing. Production rules require the use of the same wheel centers soooo...I'm looking for a chain drive conversion.
Cheers,
Matt

I think what we'd really like with the Blast isn't necessarily a chain drive but a wide choice of gearing options and an adjustable swingarm to go along with 'em.

I don't particularly desire a chain. It'd be nice to know that I can re-gear the thing, though.

Matt,

There is no kit out there, But I could make one for a reasonable ammount of money.

It wouldn't be that tough to do, just cut the ends off the swingarm and weld new ones on. The front sprocket would be cake, and you'd need an adapter for the back. The critical thing is jigging the swingarm during weld, and if your class will allow you to mod the swingarm (most will, some won't)

I'd be more than happy to give you a hand to whip something up.

Blasters!

Check out the wiring bundle that runs right behind your airbox, and the hoses that run right under the air box. I'm starting to notice some serious abrasion on the crankcase vent hose, and on the wiring bundle!!! The abrasion on the wiring bundle is bad enough that it has gone through the insulator on at least one wire (luckily a ground wire). I have allready deburred and radiused the sharp edges on the back of the airbox when I had it off the bike, I guess that I'll have to try to move stuff away from the airbox as much as possible, and armor all the close stuff.
