So I've been lurking on these forums for a while, and this is my first post! (golf clap) Since it's been freezing cold out for the last 8 months here in Northern Wisconsin my 03 blast has been in storage. Those 8 months of trouble free ownership came to an end today. Since it was over 70 degrees today I decided to get the bike out of storage, and after adjusting a few things and checking tire pressure, I couldn't handle it any longer and suited up for a trip to school. About 3 minutes into the trip I realized the speedometer was registering at 0mph, all other electronics were functional, including odometer and all lights. I pulled the bike over and shut it off and let the speedo needle do its little callibration thing and took off, still registering at 0mph. I did the same thing a few more times tonight and still getting 0mph. I did my research on this forum and found that the speedo sensor is located, according to another member, "The speedo sensor is mounted above and slightly behind the front drive belt pully on the transmission case. An allen head screw holds the sensor in place and the sensor pulls straight out of the transmission case. The tough part is getting the allen head screw out.....just take it out one quarter turn at a time..LOL" Ok, so I think I see it but I am not sure. I went to ebay and the search came back to one listing for a speedometer sensor. Here is a picture:
Anyways, am I supposed to clean this thing and how? I'm not sure exactly what to even ask here but this seems to be a common issue for the blast but I haven't found anything to really nail it down what needs to be done next. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't even dare ride it without knowing how fast I'm going. Jason |

Welcome to the board Evosix! The thing you are looking at is a speedometer adapter used for the 2000 year Blast that had the rear pulley recall. The speedometer sensor is cylindrical with a flange at the end where the wires come out to bolt it to the transmission case. More than likely you will clean the sensor and it still won't work, so you will end up getting a new one anyways. Yeah, I can understand about not wanting to ride it with out a speedometer, I rode the Big Kids Blast yesterday and I had trouble keeping it under 75 the whole time... |

Swampy, you were right. I cleaned it and still doesnt work. Going to take part off bike and bring it to the Harley shop so they know what item to order me. Take it easy and I think it's very crazy to ride with a broken speedo Jason |

Welcome Evosix! You only need a speedometer if the police are about, otherwise you get used to not having one. |
