Before everyone flames me on the stuff that is wrong remember it is just a concept. If I where to build it it would have the stock Blast backbone and the chain / belt would be on the other side.

It still looks very cool to me though.

Yup - thats closer - but I'd tighten that up by using the stock frame and adapting a hardtail rear, with that set up, a Frisco tank would look so much cooler than the classic peanut and bolts on just as easy! The fronts totally there - the handle bars being a personal choice - I like the Z bars - the outlaw look - nice work on that pic - real close to my thoughts esp. the usd forks and brake/wheel combo - a little fatter in the rear perhaps, and I was thinking a fish tail coming up the back ala EZ Rider - lol - Got Thump?! Ez, the stock header pipe is 1 5/8 and so is the Buell Pro-Series. White Brothers, Kerker, Bubs, and the Vance & Hines are all 1 3/4. I order the Vance & Hines last night from Sport Twin to replace whats left of my WB exhaust.
I think the stock Force starts out at 1 5/8 then steps up to 1 3/4 right before it goes under the bike. I might be wrong about the sizes of the Force pipe. Aaron would be the man that would know this.

The Buell Pro steps just a little before the inlet of the can twice to a final of 1 3/4, the Kerker's crossover is 1 5/8 - boo hiss - From what I know both the V&H and the WhiteBrothers were 1 5/8 - except anything from Nallin - why the extra cost is because of the 1 3/4 header - the Force is 1 3/4 but with a longer header on the Nallin - the Bub is 1 3/4 with the 2nd generation header being longer, The D&D pipe steps from 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 at the elbow - I'll call and find out if perhaps I'm wrong now and or then, but a lot of research went into this when those exhausts first came out and those where the notes I had - no big deal - I'll do some calling around to find out - no biggy - I'm curious too now - time to talk to the horses mouths - lol = Got thump?! 1 5/8 - people have been wrong before - like I said - no biggy - you know the old saying about fingers and walking - lol - like I said - you could well be right - but I'm the most stuburn person I know so I'm going to do what I do best and find out - nice thing about V&H is that the have a good quality product that can stand a few years abuse and keep going strong. EZ and Spooky, make sure you're talking the same numbers, either indide diameter or outside diameter. The OD of the Buell race pipe is 1 5/8 at the head with 1/16 wall tubing which is really 1 1/2 ID.

Just to make the numbers line up, I would suspect that most exhaust tubing is going to be 1/16 of an inch thick, therefore, a 1 3/4 OD pipe would have a 1 5/8 ID.

Ed, what do you mean by "Frisco" tank. I always thought that a "Frisco" tank was just a Spostster/Hummer tank with the gas cap relocated to the top/front of the tank and the petcock relocated to the most rearward location to give more gas capacity.

Naw its a streamlined 2.1 gal tank in a tear drop style that bolts on in the same places as the peanut would - you see them advertised in EasyRiders and other publications - the origionals could have been simular to that however thats not what the pics in the mags show anymore - however the fueling position is top center and the fuell pet cock is all the way to the rear - but the shape is definately a streamlined teardropAlways thought it would look slick and still only require one to two fill ups a week in ole SF - of course the Blast tank does the same - lol so thats why I would probably go with the Blast tankLight and fairing just to be a little twisted and so there would be some simularity between the three bikes plus I plan on owning - all Blasts - lol Got Thump?! Anybody have any tips on adjusting the clutch??

By the manual it appears to be pretty straight forward, but you never know.

See if you guys can help me figure this one out. Last Sunday the tranny started feeling a bit weird. Starting off from a stop sign I would accelrate the bike at a normal rate and just as I finished letting out the clutch, there would be a secondary clunk, like I had shifted again even though I had not. It occured once and I let it go. A few times after that while downshifting through the gears to a stop I would get caught between in "limbo land" between second and first. The shift lever would become hard and I would have to rev the bike and let the clutch back out to sort of "lunge" the bike to get first gear. The neutral light is also intermitent. I can get it in neutral the light is just intermintent.

I took the bike out for a test ride today and the secondary "clunk" from start is still there. Also the bike sometimes will not idle in nuetral and just dies. If I play with the clucth and shift lever I can get it to stay idling.

So I'm thinking my clutch is out of Whack. I did adust my primary chain tonight. Tighted to 24 In-LB of torque and then backed of the 4 1/2 flats + 3 1/2 flats. Test rode and the secondary "clunk" is still there. Neutral light is still intermittent. I did not have any problems getting the bike to idle in nuetral. I also have not been able to detect any other problems in any other gears besides the 1st to neutral to 2nd and the 2nd to neutral to 1st.

So my diagnosis is the clutch is out of adjustment and dragging? Any other guesses to the problem?

Jerry

P.S. The Primary Chain Adjustment Bolt/Screw is 19mm, to the best of my knowledge, for future reference.

Jerry-

Not a Blast experience, but our Dyna had similar clutch behavior as it approached full engagement. Basically, a few revs between slipping and fully engaged, it would get in a hard bite and then be fully engaged. This stayed with the bike through a couple of primary fluid changes. That bike also had an intermittent neutral sensor - though the tranny / primary are sperate.

Last week I changed the primary fluid to synth. The clutch phenomenon instantly went away. The tranny was also changed to synth and the neutral light behavior is a bit better - though still sticky sometimes.

This bike has only had warranty issues handled by the dealer. 2 trips for a dead stator (means they opened the primary), once for 2 rocker gaskets, neutral light (which they diagnosed as "Looks fine to us" ), and once for a carb recall. Bike gets washed by them when its there. I wonder if somehow the primary was contaminated with water or something. Can't explain the neutral light.

I know this is a different bike but the clutch symptom sure sounds the same. Not sure if you should change primary fluid, go to a lighter weight, go to synth, or what. Just sharing an experience which I believe is too small to draw any conclusions from.

Jerry not blowing you off just don't know - if anyone does please speak up! On to exhaust issues - Spooky - on the White Brothers pipe you were 100% - 1 3/4 id, Bub, Force, and the steppers Buell Pro & D&D all share this final id(the steppers in the final step up dimensionally), now the bad news - when I talked to V&H their od is 1 3/4 and id is 1 5/8 - sorry as the stockers and the Kerker crossover pipe. Well - thats that! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Thanks for the input Saro.<IMG SRC="> I always appreciate your insight on matters.
It is very similar. I can literally disengage the clutch with 1 fingers worth of pressure on the lever and about almost no travel.

I was planning on changing to synthetic on my next servicing, which may be soon. As long as I'm going to open up the inspection cover to change the primary, I might as well adjust the clutch if it needs adjusting. The funny thing is is that after the inital stiffness of break-in on the bike, everything has operated correctly. I do go hard on the Extremely Fast and Nimble Sunfire Yellow Blast with Flames, especially on group rides, but not stupid. So I am trying to figure out what I threw out of whack.

Jerry

Posts of technical nature that involve components common to other Buells might get more attention if posted to the appropriate topic in the Knowledge Vault. Just a suggestion. :)

Jerry,

My Blast has occasionally displayed simptoms similar to yours (Has from day one), but it gets better the more I ride it. As far as primary chain adjustment goes, I have taken to adjusting it by sound. I get the motor to idle, then slowly tighten the primary chain until the idle changes and I hear the chain on the rub block (whirring noise), I then loosen the primary chain a flat or so back to where the sound goes away, and the idle returns to normal, that's what I consider adjusted. Make sure that you did not overfill your primary, it will cause additional clutch drag.

Like my '75 Sportster, my Blast does not like to be shifted while standing still, and I find if I shift while the bike is in motion I rarely have the secondary clunk. A firm, deliberate shifter operation helps too.

Hint taken Blake, thanks. :)

James,
I also had the intial break-in tranny hiccups(which got much better over time), but I have been riding the bike for 3 seasons now and have over 8,000 miles on it. This "condition" only came about while riding last Sunday. The secondary "clunk" only happens when starting from a stop and the bike is already in gear, and it is just after the clutch is fully released. I'm still guessing that it is clutch adjustment.

Ez, the inside diameter on the stock pipe is 1 1/2. I went with the V&H until I could do something about about my WB. I'm just glad to be getting 4 1/2 HP over the stock log with the V&H. My ears are still ringing from my WB taking a s@#t on me.

True and the weight savings is there and I saw a steped V&H just today and it looked pretty V&H stock except at the bottom of the bend is the give away - lol -nice custom work! Yea I'd be real hot about it = I just saw a WB on an s3 and the clean mongo welds on that puppy tell you it's not going anywhere = its a pitty they didn't bring that quality to the Blast product - this weld breaking is getting to be a habit with the WB Blast system. Notes on the ASBN night.

If you want to know where all the s2's and s3's are - they are here at ASBN - never saw so many!. A couple of x1's and s1's, never even saw an m2, 2 xb9s's and an xb9r. The only other Blast there was a very promising work in progress by Diane L. She's setting up to run a stack, NBB in place, reminded me of me when I was working on my bikes set up - keep going Diane, your doing a great job and definately Blasting on the Dark side!;0)- It was great to finally meet Brian Nallin - the Buell motor god - really cool guy! I asked about the 720 kit and he said he'd sell it on an individual basis - means you would have to wait for part fabrication - just not enough people intrested - say's he;0) - to have a shelf kit waiting - still - at least its available if you don't mind waiting;0). Most of the people were nice, and the only one to make a crack about Blasts didn't have the balls to say it to my face when asked - just as well - hmm. Its funny though - most of the Buell riders I know are actually younger than me, we've all got jobs so week day stuff is usually out of the question - why none of my peeps showed - lol - however, besides Diana, everyone else there was actually older than me. This didn't bug me that much as thats where some of the best info can be snagged from, however, I can see where an infussion of young blood wouldn't hurt. I can list over 20 Buell riders here in SF - 5 ride Blasts, and all younger than me and all into riding. I guess they have the same feelings I had at the meeting - I'd rather be riding! Don't get me wrong - I had a great time, but I'd just rather be riding - never had much use for groups of folks - still don't, however, I wouldn't mind doing another ASBN and cornering a few of the guys for some questions about Cali Buell history - Ferris, etc...So is this something I'd do regularly - probably not, however, it is something I'd probably do now and again. One note - As with most Cali groups informality is key and thats why so little seems to get done - still working on a website for over 6 mo - lol - and why it so hard for them to organize any rides - again lol - I remember being asked why I didn't get a twin - my reply was simple - if I Nallinized to 720 - I could eat a stock xb, as it is I keep up nicely and I refuse to own a heavy bike. If the XB ever gets some serious power I would perhaps consider adding it to the stable, however thats a big if, and I'm perfectly happy with my humble litle Blast and look foward to modifying the second one even more! Picked up the Red bike from DP - a few touch up details they missed - when I'm Toodling down Haight - the usuall SF drizzle surounds me - I'm to the back of a group of buses stoped - the driver waves me foward, however the front driver obviously miss the signal - lol - down goes the Blast and me, The bike - scratched beauty ring , scratched turn signal, bent left foot rest - me - one sprained left knee from landing on it. Picked myself up, and people everywhere where running up to me to see if I was ok - various people offering me the buses numbers, etc. - limped over to the bike, picked her up - gave her a visual - shaking my head at the peg's bend - turned her over and road home. Wiped her down - inspected the damage - minamum - closed the garage and limped up the 2 flights to home - lol - lesson for the day - don't believe busdrivers - lol - If I had been the first in SF that this had happened to I'd be major PO'ed however this is a dirty little secret in SF - one of the smallest big cities in the US however we are a top ten in pedestrian and motorcycle accidents involving mass transit - its safer to be in the bus than near a bus - lol - Ahh well - in a few days I'll be good as new and the bike will be in a few more. My big sigh of relief is that I wasn't on ole BlastVader! and that I'm mostly in one piece though limping for a bit! If it had been a jap/british, or god forbid a Duc - I could imagine all the broken plastic. Ahh well back to my good old Irish pain med;0) Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Spooky,

I'm cool, they missed my area by 100 miles or so. Lived through 2 back in 1991. Believe me they suck, was working as a paramedic back then and had to work my behind off. Haven't posted in a few days because of youngest daughters track meets. Today was a good day she upped her personal best to 7 feet. Not bad for a 13 year old. At least I'm damn proud of her. She's going to be my pit crew on the salt this year.
