Would a Blast engine more or less just bolt into a XB bike? I remember someone had posted a pic of one before. Just wondering what kind (read rewarding or a nightmare) of a project this would be. |

More or less! Depends how cheap you can get an engineless XB. Otherwise you just have a slow XB. (Message edited by gearheaderiko on October 31, 2006) |

can a blast motor use the new xb thunderstorm heads? And can it be switched over to fuel injection? Why i ask is the i saw a pic of a xb-blast . I want to make an ultra lite xb , with a blast motor . I s it going to be worth my time to try with the blast motor or should i make up for my lack of imagination and go for the 88inch motor ? ( just kidding) I want to make a full fairing bike that will really be unique . Kind of like the cafe projects but full fairing street legal xb frame blast type bike. Kind of a strange project but you guys seem like the right group to ask . Look forward to your responses, later dudes |

Yes you can use an XB head (I do) and it can be switched over to fuel injection. Obviously going to be pricey unless you have a complete XB donor bike. Strange project? I think not! |

Not so much strange, but different. so if i change the head over i should be able to use the xb frame , right? also would it be better to keep the carb or switch over to fuel injection if i am looking for the most ( and cheapest) power? By the way who made the xb blast ? did they use the blast motor or did they use a modded xb motor ? Or are they the same motors?I have not spent much time at all looking at the blast , how does the swingarm attach ? what is the biggest i can go with a big bore kit? I really am just starting to form ideas for the next project . mabye its the coffee? |

I dont see any big reason you cant use the Blast head, but the XB head would bolt up easier. I think fuel injection is better but if you dont have a donor bike with all the injection components, then the carb would be much simpler(the carb is easier either way). The XBlast is owned and raced at Willow Springs, CA by Jim ?? He broke a few months back and we've havent been racing (our team rider broke his leg) so I dont know how he's doing. He used a Blast engine but I think the head is different (Its a bit faster than the Blast!) I believe the swingarm mounts to the Blast engine without a problem as does the rear mount. The belt tensioner mount will need to be fabricated or eliminated. Check out the Thumper forum for answers to Blast engine mods. 515 bolts right on. 600cc requires a case bore, but it can go much bigger with stroking and further case machining. The Blast and XB engines are very close and can share a lot of parts. |

Ok so let me get this straight . i can rub fuel injection , if i plug the aft cylender injector hole and use a new blank ecm i could make my own map and get it to run on my own terms ? How does that sound, problems you see. Also if the bike is just an xb motor with a cylender not installed i could get a huge 715cc cylender from th 90ci kit they make for the xb.I wonder how much power one could get ( get it?) . the next question is , what is the absolute biggest a person could go cc wise and still use the stock ( but bored ) case? next if i keep the carb, and use a fuel pressure reducing valve won't that toast the pump after a while ? that is all for now |

As far as the FI/ECM I think you're on the right track.Other people have talked (done?) about it and you can use a wasted spark system like most the HD's have used for years as one option (and not get another ECM). Anyway I dont have an XB to look at (or the time to read the manuals), but it doesnt seem to be a big deal. As far as the fuel pump, you'll just be running it a low pressure (like the bike was just idling) so I dont see much of a problem and fuel pumps are fairly cheap and available for carbs if the XB one should go. (I dont know how far the fuel tank goes below the carb, so you might not even need one). I'll let EZ field the question about max displacement as he seems to be the most current on the subject. |

wasted spark? Just let the spark dump and never be seen again?cool mabye a neon or something , just kidding . I want to build teh smallest lightest and largest displacement blast that i can. A friend of mine can fiberglass really well ( he works on aircraft ) and he can make me a frame that will be lighter and stronger. along with a few other mods how light do you think i can go with the bike ? I am already on a diet trying to loose some weight to make the bike faster . Really liked the orange stripped down blast on ebay , but i also like th xb fuel frame . that is all for now |

You could do a 4" piston/cyl ala XBRR, and the 12XB stroke - Brian at Revolution Performance is chopping at the bit to do this motor - 809ccs of thumping madness - top revs would be at 7100 for the street - Brian has been developing a cam for the twins that would be perfect, and by looking at the hp he pulled out of Terry's bike, he should be able to pull some wild stuff out of a 809cc bike - especially the torque! not to change the subject, but a 4" bore and 3-13/16" (3.8125") stroke only yields 785cc's, or 48 cubic inches... not that that wouldn't be nice! 3-15/16" (3.9375") bore x 3-15/16" stroke would also give 785cc/48 CI. It would take a 4" bore x 3-15/16" stroke to get the 809cc's (49.4 CI). I'd be VERY happy with any of the above... hell, I'd be pretty pleased with a 515 and cams!! |

I think what EZ is talking about is re-decking the case....squaring up the 22.5* tilt that the Blast cylinder |

Square motors are known to be well balanced and offer a lot less vibration, however, such a square motor would still have a lower rpm top due to moving mass! My solid answer would be to contact Brian and ask him what the best combo would be - I know he plans on squaring Terry's bike for an honest 720cc - so I know some stroking is happening there - though the current crank was also a slight stroke increase to make a 600cc eng. a 650cc. - I could be wrong - lol GT - JBOTDS! In this context, a "square motor" means that the bore and the stroke are equal, like a 400CID V8 has a 4" bore and a 4" stroke. The 3-13/16" XB12 stroke with a 3-13/16" bore (+.020") would be right on 44 inches, or 720.7cc's. I thought Terry was running in a 650cc class? (Message edited by berkshire on December 12, 2006) |

sweet, i will give them a call . i was wondering somewhere an issue with mounting the swing arm. how was that fixed adn how much changing will i have to really do to make the engine fit and 2003 xb frame? I may have a frameto work with . I need to really find out what is involved so i can sell the idea to my wife and get really started . All things have to go by her , or i will not be happy . |
