hey i am new to the blast and today when i started riding my speedometer was showing like 20's and 30's when i was passing cars going 45 easy then i stopped and got gas, got back on the road and it was just fine (showing proper speed) so was this a random fluke or is there a rising problem? thanks P.S. i've learned so much from this forum |

I just had the same problem as Jonbrown2989. Was out riding sunday night speedo worked fine, went out riding monday and it was working fine for a while, then after getting gas, the speedo wouldn't go over 35 and I was blasting down the highway. Anyone know what kind of speedometer drive the 2005 Blast's use? |

Read the topics above this - if yours starts working normally - don't worry if not - try cleaning sensor first, then replace sensor if that doesn't work. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Where is the sensor located? Is it a magnetic one like my FIL suggested, that just requires removing a nut to clean? (Gezz he makes this stuff sound so easy) |

The speedo sensor is mounted above and slightly behind the front drive belt pully on the transmission case. An allen head screw holds the sensor in place and the sensor pulls straight out of the transmission case. The tough part is getting the allen head screw out.....just take it out one quarter turn at a time..LOL |

Mine has done that about half a dozen times. I get where I'm going, and turn it off. Next time I ride it, it's ok. Seems to be common, kind of like the clutch switch. |

For the record, mine is doing the same thing... sometimes it doesn't want to read over 20mph (especially 1st thing in the morning) but if i stop for just a quick second and pull the key out, put it back in, and then re-start it, it works fine. Since my bike is only 2 months old, I'm contemplating wether it's worth taking it to the dealer (Message edited by exaran on August 07, 2008) |

Welcome Exaran! Sometimes it will do that if you dont wait for the speedo to 'power up' before you start it-wait for the speedo to show your current mileage not just funny numbers-2 seconds. If it continues to do it, warranty it. |
