ooh...I like that little face on there... badass!!! I'm trying to make a list of good mods for when I get my blast to tear up with... I love my lightning, but I'd like something I can really push on the streets and have a different kind of fun with...especially since I'm such a shorty |

Now that's what "i" call an ENGLISH BLAST !!! The forks, the seat, the muffler, "BUT" that looks like an INDIAN gas tank, and the luggage rack makes me have FLASH BACKS ... |

"i" missed the rear stand and front stand ... Looking closer that looks like a English frame and a SPORTSTER oil tank ??? |

Wow! Using the stock swing arm too!! Looks like he changed his mind with muffler choices, from an English fish tail to a Blast header with a Sportster muffler? Awesome!! Right up my alley! Where can I get one?!?!? |

Why is there a thermostat housing hanging off the headlight mount? It does look like a Brit pre-unit frame. There sure is a few parts I could use off that 'thing', but I concur with Naustin. |

That is an old HD oiltank - housed a single - converted to hardtale - such a conversion is hanging from the roof of SFMC Clubhouse - very old -That bike frame is an old 1950's INDIAN Vertical Twin frame , which came either hardtail or w/swingarm shocks- the tail just bolted on, and its using BSA front girder forks - the Blast single is much bigger - I actually am thinking of hardtaling a Blast frame simular to that - Boardtrack/Dirt-oval style - nothing fancy there - just some cut and welding - the vision is interesting. More corrections and added info - thanks to my buddy Ralph - "Added info and correction(my bad this time), Indian went to a single (220cc) called the Arrow and and a vertical Twin(440cc) called the Scout in 1949. These two models were also known as the 149(Arrow) and 249(Scout). The Arrow came with a hardtail as standard, but you could special order it with the Plunger style hub (Not shock/swingarm- my bad), the Scout came with the Plunger rear standard, but you could swap to a hardtail for flattrack racing etc. These models/names only lasted a few years and were replaced with the "Warrior" and Warrior TT" which were vertical twins but in a bored to 500cc version, which was the limit for their class racing back in the 1950's. The Warrior was the street version, and the TT was the scrambler/race version with high pipes, and stripped down etc. And FYI- our man LaFayette owned a Warrior TT. My buddy Don Roberts and I, several years ago bought an 149 Arrow and a second one for parts, we restored the bike and played with it a while, but finally sold it a couple years ago. I'll attach pics of our pre-restored 149 Arrow...which you can see, is the same frame and tank as Dr. Harms bastard ! Also of note, the 149 and 249 were Indians first model to use hand clutch lever and foot shifting just like modern bikes. You might want to again correct that info about the swingarm w/shock...it should read -Plunger style rear suspension. BTW- those bikes are the cheapest Indian to pick up and were still 100% pure american made Indians. But a few years after that, the company was failing and the very last Indians sold weren't Indians at all, but British Twins that were re-badged, I don't remember but I think they were Enfield Twins ?" Cool that explains why the lack of info at the club - only 1 guy there knows anything about Indians and he only shows about 4 times a year - busy riding that antique Indian Police cruiser of his - lol GT - JBOTDS! So thats what 'the Doc' is doing with all those Blasts. I hope the finished bike looks better than the concept! mmmmm....plunger hardtail frame...drool. I've wanted to do a plunger frame bike for years. They used to sell them aftermarket, but you dont see either much anymore. Always got my eye open for a cheap one. They handle like crap though (so I've heard). |

My wife's Blast ... The yellow is how I bought it after I took the decals off... (was her Mother's Day gift) .. swapped all yellow for black, and added a cafe fairing. My M2 is included for the family shot.

I bought it from MAW online, Lockhart Cafe Fairing Kit for 7" Headlight #107445 69283 ... Although I am not real impressed with them as a company, and not overly happy about the fairing, it worked out, and looks good .. it took them 8 days and an e-mail from me to get it shipped (should have rec'd it within 7 days. And the windshield upper did not line up properly with the fairing lower .. had to drill out a couple holes and drill new holes for a couple spots .. I shouldn't have had to do that. I thought about turning the headlight brackets upside down but then I would have had to trim the fairing. This is my wife's bike so superbike or crossroads bars are not an option... as it sits - I didn't trim it, the bars are back as far as they can go without hitting the tank, she is actually more comfortable that way, so it worked out. Just got it today and mounted it right away .. big improvement in the looks. The wife likes it as well. The only thing I may do is get bar-end mirrors so it looks like it works better aesthetically, we'll see ... Brian Oh - if anyone has a clue/idea how to get a chin spoiler on this bike, please let me know .. The one thing I don't like is the look with an aftermarket exhaust, at least with stock it looks better in front .. may sound like a lawn mower, but looks better being filled in more .. I think with a V&H pipe and chin spoiler I would be happy .. (Iknow - why am I doing all this for my wife's bike when she probably could care less? - it is a nice looking bike but could look a little better - so I will do what I can - too bad I'm too tall to be comfortable on it.) Jeez - I missed the painted frame and hugger - from the guy who origionally did it - must be getting old - For the Black - whats left is Works suspension fr & Rr and 2000 Tie-bar and SS Braided Fr brake line, Rr SS Braided brake line, new plastic tank cover and tail, and paint the wheels Black, and replace the rest of the lines with SS Braided. For the Red - Laverda Black bars and traction grips, JC Whitney 3 3/8" Tach. and a thick Red plexiglass dash to house both tach and speedo, paint the wheels black, and finish the SS braided lines as well, and try a few basic suspension mods on it. No other major mods till rebuild time;0) The new for me Force pipe - lol

J.C Whitney carries those fairings and ship pretty quick. You can shop on line or call in to them. I ended up with the larger fairing they carry so I didn't have to move the bars. If I end up converting to a club racer style I would use the smaller one for sure. |

This is the latest pic I have of my '03 Blast. I recently changed out the Baby Blue '03 logos for Black/Gray '06 logos. I didn't care for the look of the tank with nothing on it and much prefer the newer logo style.

My wife was brave enough to bring her Blast along with me and my XB on a 2000 mile adventure through Montana, up the Beartooth Highway, through Yellowstone and all the way to Salt Lake. Here are some pictures. The whole trip went off without a hitch (for the blast anyway) with the exception of the pro series filter and cover falling off somewhere on I-94 outside of Billings. It was a Saturday morning and we had no choice but to settle with whatever Beartooth Harley/Buell in Billings could come up with. If you notice the filter on this picture, you'll see our very temporary solution In the end the only complaint with the Blast was the seat... which can be fixed! |

there are a number of K&N filters that would work quite well. but it's good to see that one can do that many miles on a BLAST...how much extra gas did she carry...for that matter did you |

We ended up getting a filter off ebay. A little bigger than the K&N that came with the Pro Series, but fits really well and looks good too. As for gas, we drove across Montana last Christmas and with the holiday and the snow / ice everywhere not many gas stations were open so we strapped the 1.5 gallon can to the Blast just in case. Turned out there was gas just about every 75 miles during the summer, so we left it in Utah rather than bring it back on the return trip. |

Finally these projects are done - two Streetfighter/cafe Blasts - one for the cut and thrust of the everyday, and one for the all the twisties that suround me here in the Bay area of Cali! Though the suspension mods are not till next week started - those are things that shall not really affect the overall look of the bikes - the rest is done! As you can see - minor details to still work out - mounting the oil-coolers, and SS braided lines on the black as well - the red always the test dummy for endurance items - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ |
