Ez, I think I'm just going to build a new exhuast. This is going to be something I'm going to have to take my time with. |

Yo Ed, I was just kidding around. I've seen you post so many messages over on Yahoo linking to here that I thought I'd "get one back for Ralph" in a friendly sort of way. I've been lurking on Yahoo for about as long as I've had my Blast (7 months), and with all that you guys post, I feel like I already know you. The more you post, the stronger the pull of the Dark Side. |

Spooky - you'll want a 1 3/4" header pipe to start - it was and is the mathmatically correct size for 480cc to almost 600cc - we broached that topic to death in the Nallin 44 Mag. topic at the very end - if you steal the bends from the Kirker and the length from the Force - your head pipe would probably be close to ideal and that just leaves your choice for can - you already know my choice but at that point your options are endless. Good luck! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Ez, not seem like an a$$hole or anything like that, but I posted something about the size that was needed to for an stock blast over a year ago in the exhuast subtopic. Aaron gave the rest of the info. Go and read up on it you might learn a thing or two. The system that I'm going to be building will exit under the tail. |

My Blast is STILL at the dealership! Arrg, I'm jonesing so bad! They replaced the auto enrichner and intake manifold early in the week, but I still haven't been able to get it back. According to the service manager(SM), they have detected a big dip in the HP curve in the midrange that they feel should not be there. They tell me now that Friday they put a call into HD/Buell technical services. The last I heard, the SM told me that they thought the issue was with the carb/jetting. I kiddingly suggested they put the new Buell exhaust on, but I don't think I'm getting that for free. :-( Anyway, I had to vent. This is my first bike, and I'm not sure, are extended stays at a dealership/mechanic normal? I'm used to cars, where they tend to move them out more quickly. Someone tell me that I needn't be that worried and everything will be good soon. Dan |

Dan they sound like a good shop - its all those pesky old Harleys slowen you down and part availability ;0) but if they are concerned enough to notice a slight running difference and hold the bike back till the issues resolved - sign of a good shop;0) Spooky - This topic is deffinately old and it was Aaron who came up with that number the first time in the 44Mag section at near topics end - see date - Spooky - my bad - your number did come down a few days before I caught it in a totally different section - thats because I read the whole Forum - not just the Blast section - continuously - just trying to learn;0)http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/11471.html - read all of this BADWEB and you might learn something (said in good clean toungue in cheek fashion - I've read the entire thing now about 3 going on 4 times - I still get lost - lol)- as for under the seat it would definately help the length issue wanted for optimum performance and I'm all for different (in every sense;0))! Blastard - power to weight ratio gives you the nod for your modified m2 but not a stocker and in my playground we don't have that kind of strait road for your power to help that much at all - the question becomes - how hard ya like to lean;0)Hell after stuffing a 620 - I don't worry;0) I - Got Thump!? Hey get this, the dealer actually installed a 190 main with a 45 slow jet when they did my BBK. Figure that I had the airscrew set per DynoJet's instructions for a 42 slow jet and the puff of black and lack of fuel economy starts to make sense. I checked with DynoJet and they agree that the higher compression would actually require a leaner mixture. So I reinstalled the DynoJet 175 (just to be safe) and adjusted the airscrew back to 2 turns out to account for the 45 slow jet and it feels much better. No tell tale signs of being too lean yet (they're popping on deceleration and rattling/pinging under load right?). I still need to yank the plug but haven't had a good space clear of traffic to rip through the gears and shut her down to check. |

Sounds cool - another sign - of leanness is do a full throttle and let off a little - if you get a little surge of accelleration your lean. I'd still do a dyno run or two to dial it in - but its great to hear that she's comming around and I'm sure you'll find a place for that bit of play to check her out. Happy Easter Guys! Blasting seasons starting and I'm sure your all taking full advantage of it;0) Great things are afoot here in this little corner of the BadWeb - so keep an eye out! Got Thump?! P3 with Givi A755 Windscreen is a Big Success!!! Well I took a chance and ordered the Givi A755 Windscreen. I just put it on today in about 1.5 hours with a second person. It actually just bolted right on once I figured out the Italian directions :-) I didn't have to cut or custom fab anything. I took the stock screen off, loosened the headlight bolts, then loosened the bolts that hold the headlight/turnsignal bracket to the fork. Wedged the Givi mounting bracked between the headlight support and onto the headlight bolt. Adjusted the headlight and the windscreen (this is where you need 2 people), then tightened it all back up. I didn't use the windscreen adjuster bolt as the screen rests nicely back on the stock screen support bracket (so the wind can't push it back or anything). It looks pretty damn good if I don't mind saying so myself. I uploaded some pictures to the Yahoo! Buell-Blast: Baad Blast Photo Album, so check it out. I uploaded 4 different angles. -Chuck It's finally spring weather here in NY, so I'm off to do more blastin' Duc, Duc, Duc ....THUMP! |

Things to think about - Funny thing the Nallin group were complaining about only getting a little over 60 hp with the 600cc kit to 6800rpm - saying there was a lot more to free up since they were just starting on dialing in the bike and having glitch troubles with the ignition. I smiled because thats the area I thought the kit would take you to and yet they were expecting even more. Now let us not forget this sits in the wing http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/11471.html The legindary 44 Mag coupled with a Nallin built 6 speed - developed by them could have your 323 lb. Ray, got the Pirellis love the way the bike rides now. I set the tire presser to 34F/38R. I have'nt had a chance to give them a full work out yet. It's been raining here off and on for the past four days now, and yes I do ride in the rain just not hard. I need anyone here on the board to keep their ear's and eye's open for a complete head for a 1967 HD sprint (250). I've had the bike for about 10 years now, it was complete at one time. Tore it down to restore it, but my ex thought it would be funny to through part of it away. |

Bub's Blasted my seal! last year around june, if anyone remembers, I had a really loud POP come from the carb and then she failed to start. The seal from the carb to the back of head gasket had popped off. Same thing this morning (at the grocery store unfortunately) except this time the seal was shredded! Temporary fix to get me home was a same diameter chopped down car radiator hose. Probably won't last too long. Have to order part ASAP. My question is this: Since installing the Bub's last year and having my local dealer re-jet for me... what is causing this to happen? Do I need to buy more components to make the Bub's less destructive? Or is it something all together different causing this problem? KYUSS only 2 inches of snow left on the lawn!!! |

Kyuss, Most likely the load pop is due to a crack in the boot (instead of caused by it) and is caused by a sudden change in fuel mixture. A sudden lean condition caused by the crack. I personally carry an extra boot with me everywhere I go, and keep two at home for spares. Do you have an aftermarket intake set-up on your bike? If so check to make sure that the carb is sufficiently braced as this is the most common cause of failure. When I re-braced my carb securely I have had much fewer failures. Ray P.S. I have added two spring that run from the back of my carb to the head in addition to the bracing. |

Ray could we get a few upclose picks of your bracing - on the advice of several mechanics - I added a soft rubber gromet between the carb and the short brace connected to the manifold base - to help ease vibration at idle - has worked great - no more carb problems poping up all the time - lol - would sure like to see the up dated version of your bracing. Know what you mean - I always carry a spare also. Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

EZ- Might I suggest that any give would be a BAD idea instead of a good one? Flex at a mounting point will result in flex at the boot. If we're all complaining about boot failures - we should be NICE to the boot. If the carb braces can't stand the vibes, beef those up instead of rubber mounting 'em. Just like with the exhaust, keeping everything moving TOGETHER is likely a good plan. -Saro |

EZ, I would love to, but Aaron & Brian have the bike in Colorado doing some more engine work. This is in preparation for Bonneville. It will most likely be another 4-6 weeks before I can get any pics. Should be a fun motor when they get done. Don't ask what's being done, I can't tell. A written description is as follows. I ran a 3/4" X 1/8" aluminum brace from the intake spacer on the back of the carb down to the right hand stock air-cleaner mount on the motor. I then ran the same size aluminum strap from about 2" below the first straps mount on the carb over to the left hand stock ari-cleaner mount. The first strap was to give the carb stability in the vertical plane while the second was for horizontal stability. I feel that it is important to mention that no bracketry should be secured to anything other than the motor so that the vibration forces are with the motor and not against it. I also feel that you should be careful about the stiffness of the bracketry. The stiffer the more vibration that is imposed on the carb, the weaker just negates the support you are trying to achieve. The spring, I added on the recommendation of Aaron Wilson. They again attach to the spacer on the rear of the carb on either side. And run to small holes that I drilled in the fins of the head. This adds stability while continually sucking the carb into the boot. Hopes this helps let me know if I have confused you totally and I will try again. Ray |

I forgot to add, Since I did all of this I haven't had another failure of the carb boot. I still carry one for the piece of mind though. Ray |

The springs sound like a great idea - Damn! More work - that thing will be a monster by the time it reaches the Salt - so is that your Blast thats the 600cc inhouse monster I keep hearing about? - too sweat if it is - just sticking my nose in in curiosity;0) - my bracketry is pretty simular to yours but the springs sound like a real deal sealer. Thanks Ray you've been more than helpfull. Ray's definately - Got thump!? Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

The vibration issue is the main reason I'm keeping the stock air box on the bike. If nothing else it seems to do a good job of keeping the carb in place. If I do go to an aftermarket intake ( have to see what the Buell kit is like IF it comes out) I've already scoped out some nice aluminum bar stock at the local hardware store, I was pretty much thinking along the same lines as Ray's description. Whenever you get a chance with those pics count me in on the list too. |

EZ, No it's still only 497cc. That's the class I plan to run. Just more magic is all. Wish I could tell more, but out of respect I can not. Ltlroybuell, Be careful with the bar stock idea. Too much bracing can cause an increase in vibration. The 1/8" X 3/4" strap is plenty strong IMHO. Ray P.S. Ain't Life Grand |

Thanks Eric and all for the encouragement, I will have to admit that I spent several months very bummed out after getting rained out last year. Took awhile to get it altogether mentally. For those that noticed I didn't post for quite awhile and that was the reason. I better now though and I'm starting to get really pumped. Eric, Yes, I did get the fairing which is a XRTT fairing from old H-D road-racing days. Requires quite abit of fitting though. A might too tall and a whole lot too long. But it's coming along. I'm also having to build mounts from scratch which is somewhat time consuming. I wish I could tell you all more, but after Aaron's experience last year I feel as he does that we can't let out all that we do. Never know who's lurking. All I can say for sure is alot of effort is going into the effort, in fact, enough time, blood, sweat, tears, and a few small piles of dollars that I can't afford not to go and try my best. Sidecar records then who knows. I know that it's going to be one hell of alot of fun. Ray |
