Jeff- That is a stock modified swing arm 170 rear tire s1 front end and tach. This bike was in battle2win in the war horse section.issue 15 spring 2002. The front half fo the swing arm is stock. The back half is s1. I welded them together. |

Thanks Ryan for that info (you one handy dude - I'm more the Tim Allen type;0)) - how hard was it to put on the S1 front end? Definately a King of Thumpers! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Ryan how hard was the swap to the S1 front end? And does anybody have any info on converting to chain final drive instead of the belt? My wife wants a Honda Silverwing. If we do that I can take her Blast for riding and take mine apart for some serious rebuilding. |

The head tube on the blast is longer than the tube frames so I machined a new steering shaft. |

Did you used stock bearings? - Damn - I should have stuck with the machinest trade instead of bailing when C&C came along - then I'd be up to snuff on doing stuff like that - great job Ryan! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Just got done installing the screaming eagle adjustable ignition system in my Blast. I've got a question for Aaron. I have White Bros. pipe and my carb has been jetted to 170/45. I do have a 175 jet if needed What would be the best setting for the ignition curve to be set at. The ignition curve is set at 5 right now. Plus where can I get a tach from that will work with my bike. Thanks |

Every time I've gone in and messed with the ignition timing on the dyno, I've ended up in the 2-4 range after carefully setting the timing per the static procedure (piston at tdc on compression stroke, rotate the unit clockwise until the LED *just* goes off). But, you have a different motor, I can't make any guarantees. Get to a dyno if you really want it right. Go to one with a sniffer and you can verify that jetting too. The tach is a tough nut to crack. Lots of tachs are available for HD twins, from Autometer and elsewhere, most any dealer can order you up your choice from the Drag Specialties catalog. You can make that work by cutting a second window into your timing cup and putting the module into twin mode. That's what I'm doing, I placed the wasted spark out in the middle of the exhaust stroke. You may lose your tps input and auto-choke output when you do that though. Or, you can try to find a timing cup made for a single. Ray (FSSNOC) has a slick little digital unit on his. BTW, you're right about that rev limit. The Blast comes with the same set of valve springs that practically every other HD product has since 1983 (well, except the XB and the XR). With the stock W grind, they'll go into severe float around 7000rpm, at least that's been my experience. 6500 oughta be a safe number. A person could probably get away with 6800, the tuber Buells do, but I'm not at all sure their valvetrain is in control at 6800. I rode my Blast to work the other day. I have the limiter at 7500rpm and I was in it several times But it's got big springs. The way that motor is set up, it really doesn't start going until 4800rpm or so. But then it really pulls, all the way to the limiter. Entertaining to ride. |

I have a better way for getting my exhaust! I neglected to check bolts on the exhaust, so when it came loose and broke, the Mrs. let me get the Cherry Bomb! I'm in Biloxi now, so I won't be doing any Blasting for a little while... |

Hey EZ got a quick question. Whats involved in the 1000 mile service? Just flipped a grand on mine and thought i should do it. I am an auto technician so i figured if it was just usual things, i'd do it myself. Thanx in advance! |

You should really get the manual - their cheap on Ebay! That said - besides a total fluid change, the primary chain is also adjusted, then its just a system check that everything else is running normally - you'll need the manual for the adjustment. Your riding with a spacer the first grand - that is removed and then its readjusted - if your doing it go 3 to 5 flats out from where the book recommends - too tight - many have found out. I'll post the steps in a different section tomorrow evening - you'll see it and if you want to do it its not hard - you do need a inch/lb torque wrench though - (Sears or Tool Barn) - Got Thump?! Aaron I forgot to mention that I set my Timing with a timing light with the setting at five then I got my idle set to 1200 rpms went back and checked the timing ( set timing set idle set timing set idle ) One of those deals keep tuning every little thing until your happy. I took the bike out for a test ride. Twist the throttle the bike falls flat on its face then gets up and goes. So I took out my nice little Snap-on pocket skrewdrive turn the curve up to 7 the bike started to act alittle better, what the hell lets turn it up to 9 ( the highest setting) and see whats happens. The bike just gets up and goes. I don't like for my ignition to advance that early for everyday around town riding. So my guess is my pilot jet is to rich. My its time to hit the dyno. Thanks, Eric |

w00t! Just got back from pulling my baby out of storage. Gave her a good washing and a good trip down the wind tunnel... err, road... to dry her off. Surprisingly, it started right up, and there weren't any mice nests in my airbox either! Is there anything I need to do besides an oil change at the 500 mile mark (yes, I said 500 miles). Well just got home from out riding around town. It's 4:30 am here on the east coast 52 deg. out, and boy does it fell cold. I rode most of the winter aslong as the temp was above 32 and that never felt cold. Had fun and showed a few big twins what a Blast could do |

They "tune the header"? What does that entail? |
Ezblast
| Posted on Monday, April 14, 2003 - 07:50 pm: |
|
I don't know - just repeating the add, in general when the header is tuned it has specific length and bends promoting certain flow characteristics that promote a certain power band/rpm range. I guess I'll ask for specifics the next time I call - since I plan to do the second Blast very different in some respects to the first (sick as a dog now from riding all around in the rain saturday to arrange the purchase of bike, buying jet - rejetting and then going to dyno - lol), and the Force pipe is on my list this time. - lol - Got Thump?! Hey spooky, where's the crack? |

The crack is at the top of the weld for the bracket that bolt to the motor. Most of the cracks that people here on the board have complained about has been at the bottom of the weld. Don't take this the wrong way I like my WB pipe I think they make very nice products. I belive the cracks are coming from the people that install the pipe. It's one of those things, take your time putting it on even if it takes all day. |
