As far as the breather topic goes, check out the vast archives in the "Breather" topic in the KV dedicated to that. Though most content there applies to twin cylinder setups, the ideas are easily transferred to the glorious Buell thumper too.

Hey Blake! I got a line on some racing fuell intake hose very stiff and heavy duty at the 1 3/4" id for joining the carb to the head intake spigot. Along with some very heavy duty clamps. Think this will work instead of the lighter duty rubber coupling boot? Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Hey Blake, thanks for ther clarification- Yeah i meant to say it that way ;-)
It's been 25 yrs since I studied engine dynamics. And I was off with the electrode extended part and realized it after I posted it...figured no-one (but you) would call me on it. Besides- i didn't have visual aids to show the insulator depth. But I knew that- Really I did :-)
As for oils...I agree 100% ,and I myself run Mobil 1 15w50. Years ago when I used to drag race (jap bikes) I ran some of that expensive Vance and Hines (If I recall) 5w30(?) racing oil and picked up a few tenths in the 1/4 but always worried how long before it broke down.
But my referances of oils for hot and cold temps I still stand behind. I think the Blast doesn't quite need the extra viscosity, but I'm still playing it safe. but to answer the guys question, i felt that in his winter running temps- he should definately move down to 10w40 or lower? God the wind chill must be ferocious !

Anyone know where to get a good maintenance manual for the Blast? I have a 2002. For some reason I can't seem to find anything online right now.

Hey,guys! Just got my license plate the other day, and had to chuckle. My plate reads 77-440. How often do you get to drive a '77 440 on two wheels? Hmmm...I wonder if I could really cram one of those into my bike......

Ravensmith22, aside from your obvious comparison to a 440 mopar (which i believed were discontinued by 1977(?). The BSA motorcycles made a terrific little 441cc Thumper called the Victor and Shooting Star etc. But I'm not sure if the company was still in production as late as '77 ?
Enjoy the ride....ride to Enjoy !

New BikeMaster Bars
First time doing something like this
Lower by 4 inches and wider by 2

Just put the bars on last night. They lock, have to be careful at times because the horn will hit the tank but they're good to go, what do ya'll think. My first time ever working on a motorcycle. Gotta start slow.

Nice Blast! Lowering the bars really improves the bike's profile - tightens it up nicely - Ahh the force is strong in this one - lol - Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Thanks EZ. It feels a lot better this way. Slowly I'll add the other mods. Have to put miles on the bike first. Hell, haven't even cracked 500 yet. Haven't had much time to ride lately. Got a lot going on.

Hey Ralph, tried your links but they don't seem to be working at this time. I'll check them later.

I like those changes to the bike Southernmarine. May I ask where you purchased the handlebars? I just ordered superbike bars from bikebandit.com, and now I can see what they will look like on the bike! I just put pinstripes on my bike over the weekend in the same fashion, just different color (orange & white). Keep thumping -chuck

I found them online at azmotorsports.com, but living in AZ, they won't ship to me, instead referred me to Town and Country in Phoenix. But Again, that is where I got them. They are Bikemasters H, I think, they only have a 2" rise. Bars were about $14 and with shipping and handling $20 total.

That's a great deal on handlebars! I ordered basically the same bars from bikebandit.com and they were $24.95 plus shipping so they came to $31 bucks (which I thought was a great deal at the time). If bikebandit backorders my bars I will cancel and checkout azmotorsports. I'm assuming you are and ex-marine from your username or else you would probably be in a different desert than Arizona right now.

OK, who ordered the last K&N Blast Air Filter from Sport Twin? Now I have to search the web to find another place :-) -chuck

Actually I'm on active duty in the Marines. I'm stationed here at MCAS Yuma, AZ. Somebody unfortunately has to stay behind to man the bases and air stations to train and provide support for others.

I shopped around and when I saw those and the price I said what they hay.

Looks alot like the idea I have for a single s-1 rear on a Blast - good to see - this kind of confirms it for me -very nice - though the Maco rear(see the Wild Hare site) would probally look good also- got Thump?!;0) Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Tach

Has any one installed a tach on a Blast? I have a Screaming Eagle programmable ignition, and would like to put a standard Buell tach on the bike, but I think it would read 1/2 RPM. Any suggestions?

The easy way is to put a second window on the timing cup and run the module in twin mode. Essentially you make a dual fire out of it. I tried this, it works and the tach reads correctly, but it has some drawbacks, namely that the TPS input and Auto choke output don't work when in Twin mode. But I was using a Mikuni at the time anyway. BTW, I could find no power difference on the dyno, the extra spark (which I placed out in the middle of the exhaust stroke) didn't hurt a thing.

Ray German mounted a nifty little digital tach that operates at 1 pulse per 2 revolutions. But most any tach aimed at the HD market needs 1 pulse per revolution.

Need some answers please. Like I said before, I'm new to working on bikes, haven't never been much of a "mechanic", but I am mechanically inclined in as much as if I have instructions or tear it apart I can put it back together. I think I said that right. Don't worry, I'm going to buy a manual for the Blast before I do any major work. Anyway, I've been looking at what I could do to "beef up" my Blast. If I don't get a 9S next year then I'm definitely going to tinker with and "upgrade" the Blast, loving this little bike, but that's just it, it's already becoming too little for me. I'm looking at getting the Crossroads rearsets. I think the basic rearsets look better and would feel better for me than the "custom" ones. I'm 5'11", either let me sit back cruiser style or let me put my feet back, the farther back the better, just don't like sitting upright. Speaking of the rearsets, why couldn't someone design one that could attach to where the passenger pegs are? I sat in that position and that actually felt good. Now, here is my main question. I'm looking at the Nallin Racing Blast Engine Kits. What is the difference between the 515cc bolt-on Big Bore kit and the stage 3 bolt-on engine kit, yeah I see all the parts? Would it be better to install the stage 3 or just the bolt-on? Would I be asking for trouble if I just used the bolt-on? Couple more questions, what would be the best exhaust for the Blast as well as the breather and jets? I don't care about which is louder, just which is best, from what I've seen they seem about the same. What can I say, If I can't get a 9S then I want more power and speed out of my Blast.

Just came back from Nallin's website and had to add this. I was reading more about the 515cc bolt-on kit. Here's a quote from their page, "Want numbers? How about horsepower and torque gains of up to 90% from the 515cc kit when used in conjunction with other Nallin Racing components!" Uhh, they got me wondering which kit and what parts I would need to get this performance.
