I have the Buell Traction grips, no complaints. Like I said, they are thick enough to cut the vibration down a little. And I second EZ, the stock grips aren't worth saving. Just the thought of those on the xroads bars makes my fingers go numb... |

When I put my new bars on I did buy the traction grips but tried to save the old grips just to see if I could. After I put the tool that I thought would work thru the rubber twice I gave up. I am sure that lots of patience and time it can be done but approx 15.00 and you have new grips that are much better anyway. Also the Harley store most likely will have them in stock. Sandy |

I am using a set of Harris grips, in a nice patriotic flag pattern...soft clear rubber to see the pattern, and grippy. $15 on ebay (i LOVE ebay!) Easy install, spray the cheapest hair spray you can find inside the grip to lube it, and slide it on the bar. twist to align pattern/finger grips. LET DRY AT LEAST 1 HOUR, BETTER 24 HOURS before rideing (don't want the grip sliding off in a turn do you?) The hairspray makes an excellent low-strength glue, will hold solid, but the grip will be removeable with a firm twist. Aquanet (@ $1 a can) should fit the bill quite nicely. edited by rockbiter1 on July 16, 2004 |

sweet, thanks for the advice guys, i did end up taking off the stock grips last night (ruining the clutch side grip) in anticipation of the arrival of my new bars, but i haven't heard from the shop yet, and i'll be pissed if i can't get them this weekend, what the hell am i gonna do if i can't ride? |

Hey Rusty...just ordered Bikemaster Superbike bars from Chaparral along with some short stalk indicators and a universal headlight bracket...Per our previous discussions I'm keeping the Blast BARE! I went with the Superbike bars on the advice of the Grand Poohbah, EZBlast ("Don't f@*K with a Jedi Master!"...I went overboard on the mirrors and ordered the Rizoma 998's from Motostrano...$200 but I REALLY like the low profile look...I'm fabricating a tailight/plate/indicator bracket out of aluminum right now...I'll let you know how it all turns out in the next week or so...

hey vjb77, are those the mirrors you bought in that picture, or the bars? they're both pretty sweet. i did get my bars and put them on, they look pretty bad, and feel 100% better for handling and riding. I'm still looking for some mirrors, and have a couple of ideas. It seems that the clutch on my blast is a little stiffer now so i have to figure out a way to fix that. did you remove that section of plastic with the tail light, and plate already? because i was thinking about cutting the tail section short so that it ends right behind the seat, so that the rear tire kind of hangs out there on it's own, i've seen it done and it looks bad . let me know what you come up with.

Rusty...those are my mirrors...I may spring for the bars next year...they do look cool and I'm glad to hear they feel good too...I don't plan on hacking @ the tail section for now but you never know...I was unhappy with the big plastic plate assembly with the reflectors and couldn't find a suitable solution so I'm constructing my own...pictures to follow. |

Vjb77--Those are some sweeeeeet mirrors. Those are the ones I've been thinking about for a while, just waiting for $200 to start burning a hole in my pocket. Let me know how well they work. It would be nice to not need to tuck in my arms to see what's behind me. Also, if you don't mind, post whether they actually screw right in to the stock mounts. I know they're supposed to, but... lol... |

Can do, Newblaster...I did check with Motostrano first and they assured me they would. |

hey guys! i just finished wet sanding the blast, it was yellow but after i dumped it a few weeks ago it got all scratched on the left hand side, so i decided to give it a little custom paint. i'm going with a flat army green color. i hope to post pictures soon, i just need to figure out how. |

LOL - To help everyone out with pictures - I just posted a link at the bottom of the header list in the Thumper picture section - with it you can shrink down to size (to the 72k max) and convert to either jpg or gif. It does other editing functions as well. Nice, and its free! Enjoy! GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

too late guys, i already painted sorry. Fire engine red? not bloody likely! i went with olive drab and it looks pretty sweet, gives it a kind of antique look. went to a charity bike raffle at a harley bar this weekend and got a lot of looks! |

What's wrong with red? You'd look for that fire engine if you were in trouble, my man. Anyway... let's see some pics...I finished with my plate/tailight assembly and the superbike bars are on. I'm just waiting for the mirrors and headlamp brackets and I'll post the results. I'm going to put some short stalk indicators up front but I kept the stock ones on the rear...I think I came up with a creative mounting solution but I'm interested to hear what the Thumpers have to say... |

i wasn't gettin' down on the fire engine, just don't want red on the blast is all. i want to post the pics i have, but i don't have a computer at home, and can't use download on my work computer, so i'll have to wait until i can get to my parents and use their's. i am looking forward to seeing your results though, because i don't like that huge chunk of plastic on the back of my bike and i'm lookin' for a change. |

Hey blasters! I have been sitting around for a month now waiting for parts. So I decided to start customizing. I removed the rear tail section that holds the license plate, brake light, and turnsignals. I made a custom mount for the brake/tail light and mounted it underneath the seat "box" at rear of frame. The turn signals are now mounted in the holes that are welded to the frame for bungee cords or tie downs(?) they fit perfect! and the license plate? Well that is vertically mounted at the left rear brake caliper area. Used a "custom" fitting for that...LOL...its the metal ring plastic coated that held the wires to the frame. Someday soon I will send in some pics. Still trying to figure a mount for the footpegs. I do not want to spend $$$=fortune for Banke or Crossroads, or have my feet and legs bent to the rear. If I had a pole barn full of metal....hmmm....well onward and forward!! Buell onnnnn |

Great minds think alike, Kat...I did the same with my rear indicators...I talked with Motostrano today and they just sent out my mirrors...so in the meantime here are some rough photos of my rear end...not my rear end...the bike's rear end you dirty birdies!

Here's an idea I had.... How about Banke rear sets with custom passenger pegs? The passenger pegs could be fab'ed from aluminum and mounted to the same eyelets that you mounted the turn signals too.

HEY VJB77, NICE JOB ON THE PLATE BRACKET, VERY SLEEK, MUCH BETTER THAN ALL THAT PLASTIC. NAUSTIN, I LIKE THE IDEA OF YOUR CUSTOM PASSENGER PEGS, BUT WOULDN'T YOU HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING THEM STABLE ENOUGH? |

Rusty, Yes, that is certainly a concern, but one I think could be realitively easily overcome so long as the fabrication is done properly. The mounting points are on the frame members that support the riders weight anyway, so as long as the attachment is sturdy there should be no problem. If the eyelets prove too weak to do the job, the passenger pegs could be welded directly to the underseat frame tubing. |

Why not mount them on the swing arm like the dual sports do - you'd already have the mounting tabs built in (if you didn't cut them off - lol) - just some washers and pegs applied and your done. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

As I'm a novice, it didn't occur to me that mounting the pegs to the swing-arm was either possible or wise. What bikes specifically have passenger pegs mounted to the swing-arm? And what do you mean when you say the mounting tabs are built in? (EDIT) Now I see where you mean... the belt cover mounting tab could possibly be used for a peg mount.... edited by naustin on July 29, 2004 (EDIT 2) With passenger pegs in that location, the passengers feet would be close to interfearing with the driver's feet - it may not provied enough clearance. edited by naustin on July 29, 2004 (edit 3) My eye-ball tape measures says that the rear passenger peg would need to be close to the axel for proper 2-up ergos... Interesting option however.... edited by naustin on July 29, 2004 |

Just put them through the hollow rear axle, like those grinding pegs that kids have on a BMX bike. My Sportster has the the footpegs attached to the lower shock bolts. How often are you going to have a passenger anyways? |
