After wearing out my third rear stock, I decided to upgrade, so I just had the Avon AM52 120/80-S16 installed yesterday. I then directly proceeded to run 250 miles this morning/afternoon. It was mostly highway, 75mph+, and everything went swimmingly. I guess I'll let time and miles do the final deciding, but for now I love this tire. Bonus: it looks cool!  | ||

Just replaced the stock Dunlop with the Pirelli again. The Pirelli has a far superior ride than the Dunlop. The Dunlop felt like it was on ice (wiggling) when riding down a (rain)grooved freeway. With the Pirelli, the grooves are gone. The Kenda was somewhere in between the Dunlop & Pirelli. FWIW! | ||

$55 + shipping + having a local shop mount & balance = not such a good deal. You can probably find someone local to get them and get the M & B for free or cheap because you bought it from them. The Pirelli's are not that expensive for the Blast. (really, the stock Dunflops are the most expensive and worst handling still only giving you 5000 miles rear tire wear-if run till bald.Disclamer- they dont handle bad, but better can be had) PS Check www.denniskirk.com for an idea of what good tire prices are. Ok the time has come to replace the rear tire on my blast, swaying towards the avon tire( seems like the ol dunlop wore quick!!!) so how much does this cost to take off and ballance? The harley shop here wants to charge me $80 to change the tire!! Is this right? Is it that hard to remove the tire from the bike? How does the avon handle in the rain? | ||

The rear wheel couldnt be any easier to take off!!! See what KC engineering has to say. Dirt bike places charge very little to R & R a rear wheel and tire and the Blast is even easier than that! Really, its a 5 minute job to remove and replace the wheel. Spend the money you might be overcharged and buy a torque wrench and socket. | ||

www.denniskirk.com Check them for a good idea of whats the low price on tires. Then see if there is a local shop that can get it for the same price. Mounting and Balancing the tire is usually cheaper if you buy the tire from the store (sometimes free-sometimes discounted). Also ask for their price on mounting and balancing if you dont buy the tire from them. Do whichever is cheaper! You could mount and balance the tire yourself, but it's usually more trouble than its worth. Avon is probably the best all around tire. Traction, long wear and good in the rain. Pirelli is the best, but doesnt wear as long. Dont expect to get much more than 4000 to 6000 miles on any Blast rear tire. | ||

BUT! Everybody. Everbody, Learn to do it yourself! Sa set of tire irons, some stick on wheel weights and your 100% It is too easy not to. Especially if you ride alot. For me to have to drop off a wheel and wait........and wait........and wait........ I could have been riding. Plus you will have the added benefit of learning more about your bike and the fine art of improvisitation! (Well....it's a word around my house) | ||

While I agree you SHOULD learn and know how to do it, if the tire is already at the shop and you have to pick it up, bring the wheel with you. If they make you wait that long, find a better shop! A tubeless tire takes minutes to change and balance on a machine. It really comes down to cost vs time spent. $7 -$10 to M & B a tire costs me less money(in time) than if I did it myself. However, if I did have to drive to the store just for that, I'd do it myself. Except 16" tubed Harley tires, I just cant be bothered with that anymore! Its also beneficial to support your local independent store. Really comes in handy when you really need a part and cant wait for mail order. Without business they wont be around and I've found they can sell me tires for as cheap as I can mail order them. | ||

im glad the rim doest have spokes.... truing a tire is not fun in my book!!! I asked another shop where i get my dirt bike serviced they said they could do it for 10 clams!!! | ||

i got EXTREMELY lucky and got 2 pirellis on ebay (brand new) for $60! SCORE! gonna try and change them myself, whats the worst that could happen? uh oh, shouldn't have said that! hehehehe | ||

Gear - there was one person on the other board, I believe, who had that new profile Kenda. Chanda - I think. Anyway she didn't have any problem with it as far as I know, but it looked scary. I think there is a picture over there still... Anyways - she got rid of her blast and bought an XB shortly after - so I don't know how many miles she actually put on that tire. Mano - well I guess the worst thing that could happen is that you drop the bike while the wheel is off, and/or damage your wheel trying to break the bead. Naustin, I dont really care about the performance I just wanted to know if it still fit without rubbing and was still wide. I've already run the old Kenda and will stick with the Pirellis, but the first question everybody asks is "can I get a wider tire for my Blast?" Didnt know if that was still true with the new Kenda. Gear - The tire when mounted on a blast rim isn't as wide or tall as before because they changed the sidewall specs, and the shorter sidewall forces the tread to pinch over the sidewall and distorts the whole tire. It ends up being about the same dimensions as a stock tire so, It will technically fit and not rub... Here's a picture. The blast rim is too narrow, so safety may be compromised. So, unless you widen the rim you've still got a 120mm tire! Thats too bad for those who want the look of a wider tire (without the performance!). The safety is probably just the same as it was with the old profile. A perfect tire to lower an old Sportster with a wide rim! | ||

Gear - safety is a big concern with the new Kenda Profile. I found out that there is another person with the New Kenda tire and the bead actually popped while she was riding through a corner last summer. It was not good! Further inspection showed that the rim simply will not hold the bead and you can break it with your bare hands when the air pressure gets a little low. So - it really isn't safe at all on the Blast. On an older sportster wheel - who knows... It is still a scooter tire at the end of the day. The weight of a sportster might seriously compromise tread life. Swampy, from what Naustin posted the new Kenda is only 120 mm wide. The old Kenda was a true 140mm when mounted on the Blast. Thats somewhere to start. Unfortunately when I put on the race Pirellis I told them to save the old Kenda which still had plenty of miles to go. They didnt so I have nothing to compare. I did get them to mostly pay for a new tire though. | ||

Had a scary situation yesterday, while halfway thru a 3 hour roadtrip i noticed that my front tire had cracks in the sidewall, which i've learned is somewhat normal, but still looks scary! i had ordered new tires and had them waiting in the wings until i wore these down some more, but after i saw those cracks i had enough incentive to change it! Since i'm a newby i enlisted the help of the one and only Jackbequick who you all know from Badweb. Everything went smooth and i was back on the road, which is a good thing since my RAV4 is being repaired. My thanks go out to Jack who made what could have been a complex situation that much simpler! i got the PIRELLI MT75's, got them on ebay for $60 for both, and no, they dont have any more! boohoo! shafted me on shipping tho = $30, but still, it averages $45 per tire, so i'm happy.  |
