Ok, it Was just tooo pretty a day to not run home and fire up my blast (just to go back to work). One mile from work my bike just dies and will not refire. I have spark ( will get new plug in morning), I have gas, and the batt. is being charged overnight. When my blast died it acted like it was out of gas, after I pulled over and double checked this I thought that it might be the ignition module; but the little red led still comes on when I crank the motor. I know that it is gettin fuel as I pulled the plug after cranking it for a few minutes and the plug was wet. So we have spark, fuel , but no running blast Please help Thanks "MJ" |

The Big Kids Blast did this forever! I swapped out everything on it and it still did it. It would cut out while riding down the road and miss and lose power every once and a while. Then one day it would stop running every couple of miles or so, then restart after a long while. The LED did blink early on then after the problem progressed the LED stopped blinking when it stopped and would not blink when cranking. After I changed out the ignition module the bike finally ran like it was supposed to. SO, If your LED is going on and off, while you are cranking it and you are not getting any spark at the plug, then it would have to be the primary wires to the coil, the coil, the wire or the plug. But it still may be the ignition module(Catch 22). You say that after it dies you still have spark but the plug is fouled? Is this the Blast that smokes when it warms up? |

Your bike is a Cali model - see the section where you 49 state it - problem will probably disapear - you probably have a full charcoal canister from slightly overfilling it - which down the road does what you describe. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

I'll check for that can but I think that it has been removed already. |

It would be a Black round thing sticking out from under your bike on the left side. I concur with swampy on everything else. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

YES, the one and the same. Lately I have been putting "honey" oil in and it doesn't seem to smoke as much. Could I have screwed up the motor w/ that "honey"?? Or should I just replace the module? Thanks "MJ" |

What would be a good replacement ignition for this bike preferably inexpensive, and primarily reliable; not sure what I should be looking for but I am planning to upgrade to the 515cc eventually. I do hate to buy parts twice. Thanks "MJ" |

Screamin Eagle ignition. There are others, but the further away from stock you get, the less reliable you become. What weight 'honey' oil? Anything up to Kendall 70w should be fine but in these cold temps I would try the thinnest you can get away with.(The heavier the oil the less protection at start up). PS I'm about 10 minutes away this weekend (Santa Ynes) and am free most of tomorrow. It'll take 3 seconds to see if you're still Cal legal (charcol canister still hooked up). Call me and leave a message (I looked for a tow truck driving through Buellton - about midnight!) |

I just finished a "mickey mouse" leakdown test, air comes out( from the pcv valve) about as fast as I put it in. Me thinks my rings are gone for good. And yes it has been 49 stated. Now to find rings (not sure that I can afford big bore kit right now). Thanks "MJ" |

Was your plug oil fouled? If your cylinder bore is glazed, all the more reason to do the "Motorman" breakin proceedure with the new bore!~ |

Gearheaderiko just left, he agrees time to tear it apart. Seeing as how I can cover the plug hole and keep my finger there when cranking the motor over I'm thinking right now just replace the rings and scuff the cylinder, and yes motorman break in. Thanks all "MJ" |

Ok, good news and bad news. What first lets see.... Good news!!! Time for a big bore kit. It wasn't the rings. I pulled the head off and found a piece of top of piston and ring land missing. Looks like that has been working itself out for a while. Well now I know what is wrong... time for a big bore kit. Now for the bad news. I can't quite afford the NHRS 515cc kit YET. Bills don't ya just hate 'em?? Thanks all, "MJ" |

You can buy the hi comp piston oversized w/ rings at Millinium, rebore your cylinder to its max to clean up, and save money there getting about the same effect. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

What would cause the piston land to break? Probably detonation. Check your ignition timing also when you get it running again. |

If moneys tight, and you want to get the bike running soon, Do what EZ says. Have the cylinder bored until it cleans up +.015, or +.030, maybe even +.063 (515cc) and just buy the piston for $155. Of course, the Buell dealer has + size pistons too. Then again, if you want the all aluminum Nik-a-sil cylinder, the big more kits are the way to go. James |

If I can't get this cyl. bored out for whatever reason, what whould be a good price for a used one, and would anyone out there possibly have one that they might part with(prefferably one in decent shape)??? Thanks "MJ" |

You should be able to pick up a used one for $100... They should be able to clean up that cylinder at +.0625, if not they can always put a new liner in it for less than what a replacement cylinder will cost. If you know a local machine shop, cool, otherwise, call my buddies at Q&E http://qande.com/ I used to work there. |

I might know a shop, but have yet to call and price work. Not open at this time. Stupid Question .... Would any harley parts fit this motor.. ie.. pistons, rings etc...??? I know that some gaskets will fit, just wondering if internal parts would fit as well (might be easier to get parts if so). Thanks all, "MJ" |

I dunno about parts. If I remember correctly, the Blast piston is a Buell Thuunderstorm piston. They should be readily available, even if you have to mail order it. James |

OK - Cheapest price for a bore over piston stock kit is 64 bucks - maybe Davey could match that with shipping considering the BADWEB discount - Millinium had the lowest cost on a hipo piston kit (meaning - piston , pin, rings, etc.) with 10.5 compression set at 154.00 - however, I must state that the quality is so vastly superior to the factory parts as to be considered upgraded parts by HD since they meet and exceed their standards for such parts. There is a big quality difference here - I just want you to know that and with that extra spent now , all the other upgrades you may do down the line later would be simplified and aided by the extra compression and since your running premium anyway - there would be no worry about detination with the rest of the stock setup. Don't forget you still have to get a gasket set from the base up. GT - JBOTDS! EZ (Message edited by ezblast on April 09, 2006) |

I would go with 0.20 os (22679-98Y) leaving you a good amount of material removed for cleanup, saving the 0.030 os for the last rebore before sleaving and redoing all over again - If thoughtfull about your future with the bike you choose the hipo set up - price is the same throughout the size range - both stock and hipo kits are complete. Ok, I am sending my cyl. to NHRS to let them see if they can save it,(yes I'm buying a piston from them too, and letting them fit the rings; what the heck). Seeing as how they said that they would bore the cyl. w/ purchase of a piston for $50. more why not let them. BTW, from the looks of the cyl. it looks like I lost one of the wrist pin keepers and the wrist pin stared walkin' 'till it left a nice grove in the cyl. wall. With the small collection of tools at my disposal, I measured the cyl. and the largest reading that was received was .052 over stock. I am hoping that NHRS can save this cyl. at something close to +.0625. I plan on calling them to see what can be done if they can not save my cyl. before I send it to them. "MJ" |

If the wrist pin started walking, they might not be able to save the cylinder withour re-sleeving it, especially if all the wear is on one side. If you measured 3.552 it might take over 3.625 to clean up the cylinder, and keep the cylinder bore centered in the cylinder. I've seen cylinders cleaned up off center though. I'm hoping that there's enough meat there to no require you to re-sleeve it... Best of luck, James |

I'm hoping that it cleans up too. If it doesn't the guy that I spoke w/ at NHRS said that they could hold the money that I have sent them for a down payment on a big bore kit, (hope that's true); either way... more power. |

Ok, The cyl. went off Tue. so they should get it tomorrow. Anybody have a ballpark idea of how long I might be bikeless??( yes, I know, it partially depends on how much other work they have; and if they can even save it) YES, I 'm going through Blind Date Syndrome( Expect the worst, while at the same time hoping for the best) Right now I am expecting the worst case ( sorry we can't save this one, or it's going to take about four months to get this back to you. Yet I am hoping for the best( We're done and you will have these parts by the end of next week. Oh and you have overpaid us by $50. lol) Yeah, like I'm going to hear that any time soon. Thanks all "MJ" |

As I remember I had a pretty quick turnaround for machining. After they did the bore and hone on mine, my oil consumption went to almost zero (2000 miles at least and never had to add a drop). Correctly gapping the rings helped too. Did I understand correctly that its probably going to be bored out to 515 with the stock cylinder? The cylinder is pretty much shot anyway so who cares if you cant get another bore out of it. petcock!!(had to say it just cause I can) |
