Is anyone on the BadWeb road racing a Blast? I'm interested, but would like to more about what is required to get one race prepped and what range of racing parts are available and where. Thanks, Keith |

Beware right-handers! That ginormous sprocket affords scant traction at a deep lean...got some road rash from that a while back...otherwise extremely nimble machine--others have mounted rearsets to good effect. The "Schwinn Stingray" handlebars must go! Stickier rubber, aftermarket exhaust--Battletrax yer heart out! |

Is there good rubber available for road racing? Would converting to a chain drive eliminate the problem with the rear sprocket hitting the ground leaned over? Are chain sprockets even available? Who makes the best exhaust for the Blast and how expensive is it? What carb and airbox mods are people doing? Any brake mods or aftermarket pads available? |

Kieth, Check out the Blast section in the knowledge vault. Perelli makes pretty good rubber that fits the Blast. The rims are the same size as a Ninja 250, so rubber should not be a big deal. Converting to chain drive is going to require modding the swingarm or an idler. There a number of exhaust manufacturers making systems for the Blast: Kerker, White Bros, Bubs, Force, D&D, Vance & Hines.... all run around $200-$300 There have been a number of custom fabbed intakes, the Yahoo site EZ posted has a really good photo section. The brakes are off the shelf Nissin- aftermarket pads are available. James |

For tyres, I'll say Avon AM51 and AM52. They seem to last the longest by far. |

If he's competing then he needs the stickiest - Pirrelli. - Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Overlooked the stickiest part. I'll second the Pirelli for stickiness. It lasts longer than the Dunlop, and is quite a bit cheaper, too. |

When I was racing at WSMC earlier this month, I saw a Blast out there in the Singles race. The Ascots were handing it its ass, but, theat may have been because there are some real fast guys on the Ascots (Danny Farnsworht, WSMC #15, Larry Cochrane, WSMC #23, etc.). The blast had a clot of Crossroads products on it (rearsets, bars, etc.). I snapped a pciture and I'll try to remember to post it soon. Vik |

I STILL don't buy the sprocket scraping thing. Either the bikes are being laid down on their right and THEN scraping the sprocket OR SOMEONE is doing SOMETHING wrong. I know some fast cats that also flog a Blast on track days and they scrape their rearsets before they scrape a sprocket. Lemme rephrase - they have NEVER scraped the sprocket. It's a myth. It's based on misinterpretation of facts. If you feel strongly otherwise, maybe some very close up video footage may put the issue to rest once and for all. I'd like to make sure the bike was in proper running order (especially tire pressures) and was being ridden with proper technique. -Saro |

The "myth" was supported by the Blast racer. His sprocket had indeed picked up a few nicks from hard rights. I seeme to remember Dann from Modesto getting the touchdown on tape, too. |

Saro, This looks like a product opportunity...stickey rubber ring for the outer edge of the Blast sprocket allowing even more extreme lean angles in right hand turns......What do you think? Mickey |

Oh well, guess I couldn't possibly know what's going on with my sprocket...anyway... |

Jody Hendley is the man on the Blast at Willow, but that thing is far beyond a Blast and he is far beyond an average racer! That was the bikes first time out and development hasn't been happening the way we'd like to see it. Give it time and I think it'll get there. You going to be there next Month? Don't be a stranger introduce yourself! These are a couple folks who are at the track for the first time:

Mickey Next everybody will want different compounds for your sticky rubber thing....and I suppose the next logical step will be the protests as it would techically be a side hack....uhoh...here comes choptop and Bonneville |

Hey Vik, I didn't realize what kind of commute you're making to get down here - I just peeked at your profile. Way to go! Have you had a chance to ride Thunder Hill(sortakinda near you)? A few of us made our way up there for the Buell track day in October - what a FANTASTIC track! I need to check my calendar, but there is another Buell event happening up there this year and it's going to be a two day event. I'm sure you wouldn't mind stuffing a few of the Buellers up there =) A couple of notes on the guys in the photos. The yellow Blast is our shop manager. He's been on the track several times, but this was his first time on the Blast. Typically he'll ride his X1, but his Nallinized top end ate itself. It took a bit of coaxing to get him to try the Blast. He had such a blast(I know, I know) he's taking it again next month. Apparently it really helped him learn the virtues of finesse and I believe he's on to something. His lap times on the two bikes are very close - pretty amazing considering his Nallized X1 makes 98 rwhp! The other kid was making great laps - getting killed on the front straight and making it up through the rest of the course only to get whomped again on the straight. He's swearing revenge for next month! |

Yeah, I love Thunderhill. I like Left hand turns, so it's my favorite. I can't remember why I didn't do the Buell day there. I did run the Aprilia day and a couple of independent days. I ran Sears Point once, too (what a track!). When AFM starts up, it will take priority for me. Simple logistics, really. I like WSMC better; but, the all day drive down followed by the hotel expences adds up quick. I would love it if WSMC ran the streets. I'm killing people in turns 1,2,3 and 5, just to get eaten in 7,8,9 and the straight. Once I pump out of novice I won't have to fight the higher hp bike anymore; I'll just be losing 'cuz the riders are so much better! Vik |

The Blast seems like it'd make a cool racebike...only it'd cost a lot of $$ to get decent power out of it...and if the top end has the same longevity under race conditions as the twins...forget it. I want a single, though... |

The guys that are SERIOUS about singles classes are putting about $20K into a GP-chassis big single. There is enough noise here at Willow Springs that we've got our own conspiracy. Sure it's not a Blast class but hey, they tend to separate from the leaders and form their own class-within-a-class. Most of the Club class winners running the Honda Ascot have used up about 5 or 6 engines in a year-long season. Don't think that's the crowd that us mortals want to compete with. The super-motards aren't that much faster than a tweaked Blast (ask Matty) I hope to have a Blast-variant on the track in next half year (hopefully less) Get you together with a couple buddies and get your race license. Most racers openly encourage participation by "lesser" riders and hardware - if for no other reason than the number of points for a race class is tied to the number of starters so more entries=more points for the podium! |

GP Mono is a farm class here in Japan...there are two ways to set up for one is to change the swingarm and fork on 4 stroke MX bike, like the Yamaha YZ250F for instance, and then apply roadrace bits (bodywork, clipons, rearsets etc there are actually kits made for this for sale here)I think they use stock 125 wheels.. They ran at Motegi before the GP125 race and the bike looked like hella fun, except on the straights The corner speed on those things was just sick. BTW the other way they build them is to just pull the engine out of one of those 250 4 strokes and drop it into a purpose built racing chassis $$$$$$$$$$ though if I were gonna RACE singles I'd use a YZ450F engine |
