Hello,
My wife is now a new owner of a 2006 Buell Blast, and so by extension, I am now the maintenance mechanic of a her thumper : )

My wife is very small, and so the blast is perfect for her, except that the shift lever appears to be non-adjustable, and is a bit long for her foot (she can reach it but it's a bit awkward). Is there a shorter lever available anywhere?

Thanks in advance for the assistance, I am sure I will be referring to this site regularly as my wife's adventure unfolds!

I figured since Ralph answered your question before I could - I'd post his answer here - lol - And to answer your question -even before you ask it. You can adjust the
shift lever on your Wife's NEW Blast ! The Shifter itself in tightened
to a Drum with a socket head bolt, just loosen the bolt and move the
shift lever either up of down... there is NO need to remove the drum
from the splined shaft- like is normal for most other bikes. This
design is to prevent shift shaft damage in case of a spill.
And if the toe peg is still a far reach for your wife- just remove the
lever, and have another hole drilled and tapped closer to her toes- and
install another toe peg -and she will be fine :-)

Thanks Ez, I figured it could be adjusted up and down, but haven't investigated whether that will shorten it enough for her little size 6's.

I hadn't thought about drilling it out to shorten it. That's a little more involved than buying a shorter lever, but sounds like a reasonable option.

You can also try a Sportster shift lever, it's shorter if memory serves me correctly.

The Sportster shifter will not fit without modification. The groove in the shifter shaft is not in the same location. You may be able to grind on it some to get it slide into position. Mine fell over shortly after I got it and broke the shift lever off. I tried throwing the wife’s old shifter off of her sporty but it would not fit. I even tried the heel shifter off of my FLHT that I had removed, it does not fit either. It has a different spline. So what did I do, coughed up the money and got the Cross Roads rear sets.

Just Curious, but what year Sportster was the shifter off of? The Storz shift lever on the Racebike was intended for a Sportster and we didn't have any problems getting it to fit. I thought it was a bolt on deal

04 Sportster with mid controls. The stock shifter is very wide and goes all the way to the primary cover. It slid on the Blast but not far enough to put the pinch bolt in.

17 - It's strange that is doesn't fit. It's obvious that you're mechanically inclined, and know what you're talking about (You were there, I wasn't). Is there a chance that the Sportster shift lever was hung up on the rubber whasher between the shift lever and the shift shaft seal, and not the Primary cover?

There was some discrepancy as too whether a Sportster shift lever would work on the Blast. Its 1 3/4" shorter.
The 1991-2003 Sportster lever will fit, but the rubber spacer thats between the stock shifter and primary has to be cut in half or left off (not a big deal).
Shifting greatly improves, but its definitely for someone with a small, strong foot!
The better way, (that has been often mentioned) is to drill and tap the stock lever for an additional toe peg. Course threads for the Blast toepeg. Fine threads for Sportster,Big Twin toepegs.

My speedometer mileage will not move, the trip works, the speed works, but not the mileage. I have preformed the Diagnostic check and everything is ok. This is on a 2008 Buell Blast. Any one with help would be fine. Ron

Not quite sure why you posted this here as the front page would have been fine, its way off topic for here!

Nevertheless, it sounds like you just have a speedo that went bad. Does the tripometer work? Have you tried a "reboot"? (Unplugged the battery or speedo and waited, just like a computer. Dont know if it would do anything, but....)
