Robtinker, I have a 2002 Blast also and feel the same way, not quite enough power !! If I could upgrade mine I probably wouldn't be lusting after the Lightning either. My problem is I need more power, but being a gal at 5'4" I don't see much to trade up to in the Buell line that I could handle. I did originally get the Blast intending to trade up to a Sportster, but now I have grown to LOVE my Buell, the Buell riders I've met, and the kind of riding they do and I don't want a Harley now !! I had a guy from Hal's tell me they were going to get some type of kit that I could consider to give my little Blast more Umph !! I believe that will make me happy for a while !! I have a little over 4000 miles on mine and have not had any problems with oil consumption. I guess next year though I'll keep an eye on my tires and get new ones when necessary ! CJM |

Rob, I'm thinking of making some to sell after I make the clutch inspection cover. It all depends on how many people want them. BTW, 6000+ miles is great for the stock tire. James |

James! What prices might we expect? Rob! I have yet to make it to 5000 miles without running out of tread. My most recent tire, the Avon, almost made it, but it was not balanced correctly, so one side is bald, and the other side has a little way to go. The manual says to check the oil every time you get gas. Once your engine gets around 8K to 10K, it'll get better. Try Mobile 1 synthetic 15W50, while you're at it... |

Joey Around $40 for the timing cover. Probably $50-60 for the clutch cover, I have to run one and see how long it takes to machine. James |

Here's the trick - I need help finding a source for the Andrew B-50 cam - please don't list the obvious - Andrew and Nallin - they are out - the time closeout for this is 10pm western tonight - if I can't find the cam then I'll end up waiting a few months but if that happens then I'll end up going the whole enchalada and have them do the full 600cc kit - in for a penny? - Just Blasting on the Dark Side! thanx to cmjblast, jprovo and joey your advice has been most helpful. now i have to call the dealer and get a tire. i really want to get the 600cc kit for my Blast, if i was keeping it CMJ, but the Lightning is screaming out my name,"rob , buy me!" my Blast just feels like a scooter under me. even with a 600cc kit i think it would feelthe same. i need a bike. i love the Buells for the performance but i love Harleys for the image. i'm so torn. |

Robtinker! Before you get a tire from the dealer, price the Pirelli MT75 and the Avon AM51 (front) and AM52 (rear). I just got the pair of Avons (the longest lasting so far) for $132 from Ken's Motorcycles in Woodstock, GA. His number is 770-592-8526. Tell him some guy on the Air Force base in Dover, Delaware sent you. My stock Dunlop rear tire lasted 3000 miles. Now, I put lots more stress on my tires, doing highway riding mostly at high speeds. The Avon rear tire is past 5000. The person who balanced it didn't do it right, so one part is out of tread, while the other still has a bit to go. |

Rob, get the Lightning !! Especially if the Blast feels like a Scooter, life's too short to not enjoy your ride 110% !!! Keep a Buell for performance, and get yourself a Harley Chick for the image thing !!! LOL CJM |

There's been alot of talk lately on this board and mine about wanting more power. And others just want to upgrade to bigger Buells. But let me add "My" 2 cents worth. First off, the Blast engine can make some Real H.P. and it really ain't hard. Also- you don't really NEEd to go to the 600cc kit or the purposed 44 Magnum kit. the simple 515cc Nallin kit will keep things cheaper. But the next and most vital step is the Head/valves and the Cams (yes 2 cams to those unfamiliar). Cubic Inches (oops C.C.'s these days) do give power if the cylinder can be filled (breath)correctly, and just a big bore doesn't do much without proper breathing (that also hold true to carb work as well). In any internal combustion 4/cycle engine, the cam timing and lift and duration are where REAL power comes from- All else is Just icing on the cake. And going Big Bore without a proper cam change and flowed heads is just a waste of Money ! Even just dropping in the Andrews B50 cam isn't that radical. To get power in the Blast you need at least the Andrews B70 or the Redshift Cams. All old hot rodders know, that the Cam is where power comes from.... And with just a grand or so in Nallin parts, the Blast can be built to run as fast as a 1200cc Sportster engine or maybe a 500cc(Twin) Jap bike (EX500 or GS500)...... Just something to think about. |

No arguement here, however, reliability is always first in my mind, so I opted for the B50(if I remember - this is the origional 50 hp cam) for a little extra power and to keep the top end bullet proof - lol - I grabed the last one from DK however, motorcyclegoodies2.com has found a few other sources for obtaining the cam. I'm only aiming for around 44hp/44ft.lb. territory. When Nallin finally does come out with the 720 kit then I'll step up the rest of the way and go for a reliable 53/53 combo. If I went for the next step up in cams then I'd have to have the full on treatment and then I might as well go for the whole Nallin enchalada - as it is I am using all their head hardware - nespa? - lol - Just Blasting on the Dark side! Help - your advice please: I lowballed an offer for a new XB9S Lightning and was turned down but found when I got home that the offer was accepted. Major good news. So, what say you Blastards: move me off this board and on to the XB forums when I trade in my Blast (I would have to), or decline the purchase and putt along some more? 0.9% financing now. |

Prof - except for the fact that you'll have to get used to the wind - I'd sugest going for the xbs - the only reason I have'nt yet - I plan to Keep my Blast as my in city bike and get an xb for weekends, distance, and back up - thats why I'm thinking Nallinized from the start because I'll always be tinkering with my Blast and All I'd really do with the xb is a few cosmetic change overs, so I'm waiting till about 5 mo. down the road and then its arranging a trip to Colorado time! I guess you'll be expanding your page to include the xb now - sounds like fun! Just Blasting on the Dark Side! EZ |

Yeah, that's a steal with the mounting included. That means you paid about $55 for the tire. |

Does anybody know if the shifter spline for the Blast is the same as any other Buell models? I want to make up some rearsets, but I don't want to make that part if I don't have to. James |

Jprovo - I think its the same as the xb. O.K. - who has winter projects - mine is to put on the ole Alien lights/fairing combo, barend front signals, dremmell the licence plate, grind out and create mounting suports, and then mount a Force intake and try to figure where to jet from there - will try 5 up at a time - anyone know what the usual jetting increase is for a Force intake on a Buell? Should I try 10 up instead? - lol - Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

I also have a few winter projects planned. I plan to make a few dual headlight/ fly screen mounts, and either pick the one I like best or maybe rotate them around during the summer. So far I've made a number plate w/ verticaly stacked lights offset to one side. Hopefully I can post pics soon. I also want to make some rearsets and a new tail light/ licence plate bracket. Hey, yesterday I was out getting my motorcycle endorsment (woohoo) when, after I had stopped for a snack, I couldn't get my bike into neutral. My dad got it back by rocking it, but is this a common thing? If so any easy ways to fix it, or at least get it back into gear? I'm not exactly sure what he did. Thanks! Black '01 Blast |

Yes Funkdaddy, this is a common trait among lots of bikes when they get hot. Harley's may or maynot have this as common. Best thing is to shift into neutral before you roll to a complete stop. I figure some peeps are gonna tell ya to get the clutch adjusted, but for my money- if it ain't grinding or jumping when you shift into a gear from neutral, the adjustment is ok. But you may want to make sure that your tranny fluid isn't leaking out or that the fluid is changed at the 5,000 mile mark or sooner. But just try finding neutral a second before you come to a rolling stop- that should do the trick for most of the bikes (Foreign and domestic) I've rode. It's also very common when the oil gets hot. I had to make a hard decision after my offer for a new Lightning was accepted. I made the "ridiculous" offer as a lark while at the CW show in Seattle last weekend. No way would they accept, but they did. How can I abandon my 00 Blast, the best bike I've ever owned in 30+ years? Best: most fun, most durable, most mpg. However, the XB demo ride was incredible handling/power fun and I was impressed to the max. 0-60 in 3.7 seconds is pretty quick. But I decided to NOT get the Lightning and am going to keep riding and enjoying the Blast. Maybe by next summer my son will be interested in learning to ride and then I'll consider the XB. Then again, maybe we'll just have 2 Blasts! |

Ralph- thanks for the tip. I'm not sure if the hot oil would be the culprit... I was riding in 35-40º F temps, and it was a short distance. But thanks again. |

Joey, good point but I also have an 89 Harley Electra-Glide in the garage. Wife and son are adament about keeping that classic highway hog. Doggone, the XB9S is so tempting. "It's about riding, not styling." |
