Anyone have any idea why the primary chain case cover on my Blast is wet from about halfway on the clutch inspection cover down to the underside? |

Jimalexander: It's leaking! I'd recommend you pull the clutch cover and check your seal. When I changed my transmission oil, my seal seemed to be in perfect shape, so the dealer not stocking them didn't bother me. Was anything done to your Blast! shortly before you noticed the leak? Like everyone else who has done it says: Don't pull your foot peg bracket all the way off. You can loosen the 3 nuts most of the way, and you'll have room to get at the cover. |

Joey, thanks, I'm a bit dull these days. The bike is 3 months old and nothing has been done to other than have an aftermarket exhaust put on. I'll call the dealer and bring it in and let the repair be done under warranty. Jim. |

Jim, get used to it- Harley products leak oil...er- no wait, they just mark their territory ;-) That inspection cover is a plastic part and the seal isn't too swift, mine also seems to ooz just a tad, but I ain't worried till it leaves a drop on the ground. Also- if the case/tranny is overfilled a bit, the extra level tends to start to seep. The tranny takes 1 quart when dry.... ~LOL~ wait til your rocker box gasket starts to leak....yeah the 2002 and up are supposed to have a better gasket, but I'm not to sure that the morons assembling the motors know what they are doing.... Ralph, thanks for the input, now that I'm thinking about it, I overfilled the oil by 8 ounces for a 30 mile ride. I am keeping a good check on oil consumption during break-in and checked the oil level when it wasn't fully warmed up, hence the overfill. Won't make that mistake again and won't be taking it in to the dealer either now that you have enlightened me. Jim. |

Wise choice in my opinion - for EVERYTHING, mind you. Funny (in a not so funny way) story... I took my rear wheel off my Blast and took it into the dealership for a new tire. I was quoted 70something bucks for the tire and another 70something bucks for the install! I went to pick it up and I was only charged 30something for the install. Then someone from the dealer called and said they made a mistake and had to charge me the remainder of that 70something. The wheel was OFF THE EFFING BIKE! 70 bucks labor for a tire change! RAPISTS! To top it off, they weren't nice to the torx screws holding the sprocket on - and I think they were supposed to replace 'em if the manual means anything... Ralph-

The metal gaskets didn't make it into all the 2002 bikes. I think they were introduced late in the 01 CALENDAR year which means a bunch of 02 MODEL year bikes (mine being among them) were made with the cheesey paper gaskets. -Saro |

going with Nallin 600cc piston/cyl. kit, b-50 andrew cam, Nallin valves,springs,guides, and seals, three angle valve job,port and polish. all to replace the holy piston,leaky base gasket,etc. that was caused by a sudden lean condition - how - don't really know yet and all I can say is God bless Hall's Buell/HD in Chico, Ca. for working so hard to get my bike on the road again. My ride home will definately be the braking in period - its just like Christmas - hey!...wait a minute - it is Christmas!(close enough by the time they project I can get my bike back - if everything goes smoothly!) final decision - 515cc pis./cyl.,Nallin valves,springs,guides,and seals, 3 angly valve job and some general cleaning up of any restrictive areas on the head, b 50 Andrews cam, lowerend inspection and full flush of bikes fluid systems,total gasket replacement, adj. ign. system, new air filter, with the Direct Hits and Bub pipe shuold net at least the 44 or better number. went with the smaller kit because of speed of turn around and Budget. Sorry for the string - just eager to be riding again - jonesing for Blast Vader - lol - Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

The smaller kit should be easier on the rest of the motor...I'm envious none the less. Post your Dyno results after you break it in. |

Hey Xg - ole buddy - good to hear from ya - hows Japan treating you? When are you getting back to state side? I still say if you went to more discs in the WB pipe you might find a little more power as well. Just a thought - I'm already locating a universal trapp external 3" disc(going w/ seventeen discs )muffler to wed to the Bub header further down the line. Don't worry bro I'll keep ya posted on if I blow her up(almost this last time - lol). Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Okay here is a strange one and don't laugh to hard at me.. I am buying a pocket bike ( just for laughs) but since i do not own anything but my little blast i was wondering if anyone had made a Carrying rack for the blast yet. The pocket bike weighs less than a passenger so i don't see that as a problem, it's just mounting it. I know if i thought about i could figure it out but i really don't feel like thinking.... I want to be lazy ... Any help would be great.. TY |

Actually right now I'm in school in Ft Meade, Maryland I don't get to Japan until mid Jan. My wife complained about not having a bike anymore so I think we'll be buying some used rice rockets to play on sometime next spring. There are some cool thumpers the 400 Hawks (might bring one of those home) and I saw an R4 that really apealed to me...there's also the Japan only Motards |

Hello all, I'm buying a '02 (new) Blast this month. This will be my first bike. I'm a pretty good wrench for my cars/trucks, so I'm not too afraid of getting my hands dirty. I've got a few questions for the list. 1: What problems/quirks should I expect and or watch for? I understand there are some problems with leaking gaskets, but what else might I need to be aware of? 2: Just because I bought it stock, doesn't mean it has to stay that way...What are recommendations for performance modifications? I looking for just "paying the tax/stage 1" stuff for now. 2a: What aircleaner & exhaust recommendations are out there? 2b: Are there any technical writeups on rejetting? 2c: What kind of performance can I expect for this kind of work? Thanks in advance! |

Hi guys a question - I'm going with full Nallin valve gear - so is it safe to set the rpm soft at 7100 and hard at 7500? The service guy was making noises like it would hurt to do so - that I could suck another valve. I don't even plan on being close to that ceiling in any constant way- just want that little extra. So is it safe to go there - I don't see why not? Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Yeah Ed, I was gonna pipe in and say it would be safe with those quality parts. But make sure you at least don't redline her(much-LOL) during break-in...take her easy Ed.....Then she'll treat you to much fun for a long-LONG-Time! hey there, it was good to meet some of you at the long beach bike show. my god that Lightning® is a bad a__ bike. i've noticed on my 2002 Blast® that my rear tire is bald in the middle at 6,000 + miles. is this normal or is my ridng style all wrong? sometimes when going down hill i hit the frontbrake a bit hard and the rear wheel chirps when downshiflting , is that what has worn down my tire? it's only bald in the middle because i've done tons of freeway riding. i would love more info on the 600cc kit and pipe combos and air filter etc. if she was a little faster maybe i won't trade up to the Lightning® another thing is oil consumption. at 2500 she went dry and at about 5000 she went dry again. is this normal? or is the bike leaking? i have yet to see and drops on the ground. |

Rob: the 600cc Blast kit is really getting popular, we've been moving them lately. We'll be doing that to mine soon too, it has a 515 kit on it at the moment. Please feel free to call the shop, we'd love to talk to you about the kit. These little bikes flat haul ass with a little work. Even with 50hp, which can be done with the 515 kit, they're a little rocket. 6k miles from the rear of a motorcycle tire is pretty decent, you got your money's worth. I don't remember the last time I got 6K from a rear. That's a tad high on your oil consumption. There are a couple of different things about the production bike that we see that causes it. Give us a ring. |

aaron thanks for the advice. if you can get 50hp from a 515 kit, what can you get from a 600cc kit? i'm a 5'9" 200lbs. guy and the bike just doesn't have freeway speeds for me. it's either upgrade to 600cc or get the Lightning! |
