Hey James! I was just going to post - Yes and thank you - two and a half hours later ol Blastvader is back to her evil self and the ticket is signed off(the loudness part- lol)-total cost for that part of the ticket including parts and not labor is $12.00. Now if I could just find an understanding judge about that passing violation;0) Just Blasting on the Darkside! EZ (- Oh yea - the stock exhaust sounds just like an old singer sewing machine(those big industrial ones) and no torque_still it was interesting to hear;0)) |

Hey Ralph ... what I'm getting at is two things. First, looking at the dyno sheets from the stock motors, the thing isn't really climbing anymore when it gets into the rev limiter anyway: This is my Blast when it was bone stock, after a thorough tune-up. Second, in the early stages of developing this bike, I experimented with raising the rev limit before I ever opened the motor, changed cams, springs, etc. It went into serious valve float at right about 7000 rpm. And that's with a relatively new (under 500 miles) set of springs in it, that number will drop as the springs sag ove time. So raising the rev limit is risky, it's current setting (which the dyno says is about 6600 rpm, sorry about that) isn't that much below the float point. AW |

Aaron....YIKES ! Ok, I see your point :-( So what have you guys(Nallin?) done to the heads/valves ? Can we duplicate that, or is it a secret ? And say I want to put some cams in it with new(stiffer)valve springs...THEN would it help to raise the limit a tad? I guess in the long run (~LOL~) if I want to go fast, I should just go out a buy a brand NEW XB9S "Lightning" ! (I love that look ;-) ~Ralph~ |

The top end is all off-the-shelf stuff from Nallin (515 kit and stage 2x head work). Brian can set'em up for whatever cams you want. Use some good travel limited lifters (which require adjustable pushrods). Open up the exhaust and intake. And yes, then you both need and can safely support a higher rev limit. Mine has seen 8000rpm many times, without breaking. It makes over 50hp (the 48hp configuration I wrote about in Battle2win was with a streetable exhaust and the CV and a milder compression ratio). Do it, it really makes the bike a whole bunch of fun to ride. |

Ralph, Everything you need to do it is right here: http://www.nallinracing.com/ekitbuellblast.shtml Depending on finances, as always, and the health of my aging F-250, I'm planning on doing one of these kits with my Blast this winter. Combined with some clip-ons, and the rearsets (Tony is right - they have all the clearance you'll ever need - the only thing I've ever scraped with them is the toe of my boot when I let it hang under the shifter) it'll be a really fun bike. D'oh is right, I just went back to the opening page and read "About Bad weather bikers..." Ahhh, I am living up to my name ~LOL~ Yeah I hate Bad weather too, as a matter of fact I just had a discussion string about that on My Yahoo Group. I also forgot the names of other Buell Bikes and hence the other tie-in to bad weather- I.E. : Cyclone, Lightning, Thunderbolt, etc... BTW- is Blast a weather phenomenon ?....it is if it's a HOT Blast ! Don't like cold Blast's they usually come from Canada- eh ?! I love You Canucks though...No disrespect intended ! |

Buell needs to advertise more - still way to many questions about make - and where...lol...Just Blasting on the dark side! EZ |

I'll be honest...I used to look at Blasts rather whimsically. To kill time I sat on one at the dealer today. I loved how lean it feels and how low the center of gravity is. I started imagining a 44" engine, a custom tailsection, rearsets, clipons, 17" wheels, race tuned suspension...a tiny bike that could match a bigger, fatter sibling...maybe someday. I've always wanted a thumper...and I love to tinker. Ah well, a guy can dream. |

Saturday I whimsically asked the sales guy at my local HD/Buell place (who knows me pretty well) if I could demo the new Lightning sitting there on the showroom. I expected a chuckle. He said, "Sure, I'd like you to try it. We close in an hour. Just ride it." So I did. Oh my. While my Blast still waits for a new mirror to arrive, I took the new Buell for a shockingly fun ride. What a cornering monster! But I can't afford to buy one yet. The Blast is still my #1 bike, but this new twin has got me thinking... |

Thanks Saro. Those are the old style (like mine). The Blast now has a new type of mirror base that looks much less likely to fatigue and snap off. Saturday's ride I did with the Electra-Hog and the 110 miles wasn't as fun as the Blast rides. More protection and smoother power and classic looks and more comfort. But not as fun. What's up with these Thumpers? |

Going to go riding to the Ren - fair - Just ride one - different in every sense - I love carving corners on my blast - the rearsets really help with clearance and the clip-ons keep me foward focused - a quick once around SF and I'm off! Just Blasting on the Dark Side! EZ(exgeko - I see what you mean about inside lines one can take with a Blast in passing;0)) |

A ride on the Blast yesterday confirmed to me that I don't need to consider a new Lightning right now. The Blast is too much fun as it is, but in a more relaxed way. On the Lightning demo ride, it seemed as if all the traffic was moving in s-l-o-w motion. Weird. I'd likely be contributing to the local coffers via traffic citations if I owned one. |

The Blast really is a fun bike. I also own a BMW R1100R and more often than not, I choose to take the Blast out. There's just something about that bike that makes you want to ride it. And everytime I get on that beemer, I end up going way too fast without realizing it - I'm sure I'm due for a ticket one of these days. I'd love to check out one of the big Buells, I have yet to ride on any of them. |

Hey Prof Stack, that NEW "Lightning" is sure some sweet ride ain't it ?! I haven't rode it yet, but I have several Firebolts, and my only complaints were addressed/corrected on the XB9S "Lightning". I love the looks and everything else except the price tag ! Btw the tire prices scare me too, although that size is very common to sport bikes, Buell had Dunlop make-up a special Lighter tire just for that machine. The rear tire should retail for over $400 ! Although Buell/H-D says that the standard sport bike tires are safe to use, just not as tuned for the bike. Wouldn't a tuned Blast engine be sweet in an XB9S frame !? With Fuel injection too-of course ! I don't believe The blast would be heavier, as the XB9 dry weight is only 25lbs. heavier than a Blast anyway ! Just sumthin to think about.... P.S.- i love those naked "Bug eyes" Projector Headlights ! |

The Blast mirrors are interchangable, just fasten and twist the mirror on the stem. The newer mirror (2002 and on) has a metal sleeve over the area which fatigues the most and breaks off. That should hopefully prevent breakage. Oh yeah, the mirrors are a pain to adjust properly, especially with the optional windshield in place. I didn't torque it really hard. |

yellow Blastards, I just about have my little jewel back to streetable after the disappointment of a rained out LSR attempt. (Will try again next year ) Working on new things to make it even faster and sliperier. Currently waiting on a new HRS 42 Mikuni carb that I have ordered as the CV is not working to my satisfaction. Thanks goes to Prof-Stak as I have purchased his corbin saddle. I haven't been able to put any miles on it, but bench racing it in my garage reveils that it is quite comfortable. (Especially for us gravity challenged type {read heavier than most} ) It fit fairly well but needed quite abit of work to acheive this . Currently fitting up a set of clip-ons from Pro-Flo that appear that will work out quite fine. And with my ape-like arms should be very comfortable. I built a taillight/tag bracket out of aluminum, and mounted LP turn signals all around. This is giving the bike a very pleasant naked look. Once the carb gets here then I will be working on a set of rearsets either building or a set or buying from BANKE. Then will come a full fairing from air-tech. I hope that Mother Nature is ready to cooperate next year as I think between dad & I we have spent enough $ that we can't aford not to try another attempt. Ray |

Hey - next years dirt-track rules in some series - stipulate bike and engine must both be factory as a unit - would the xb frame be ok for dirt track - gosh with a fuel inj. 650 blast eng(one of the test variations origionally)that would be fun - I read this in CycleWorld in their race watch titled Dirty Work by Don Canet in their Nov02 issue - do you think the frame could take dirt-track racing and with a upped Blast engine mounted to it -hmmm - Just Blasting on the Dark side! Ed, sadly it looks like the Blast dirttracking days in F-USA are over for now. But in AMA Flattrack, they would allow it's use on the Shorttracks and in the 505cc Support class ! The factory Harley Blast racer(and the other non factory bikes)use a custom frames made by C&J. I believe they made a dozen or two. These are strong frames as Stock Blast Frames could NOT withstand the abuse of Flattrack Racing. Btw- these Frames would also make Great RoadRace frames as well.... but not have too much advantage over the stock frame. So Ed, for 2003 you'll only be seeing the Blast Racers in limited action on the AMA circuit. BTW, I've been running/updating the http://www.jensnyder.com website for awhile now along with a Yahoo group called the "JenSnyderCheeringSection". So I know a thing or two about the Blast Flattrackers of Jen Snyder and Rich King. |

Ralph, So H-D or Buell should make the required amount of Blastards using a C&J frame or equivalent. And then go kick some serious dirt track ass. I mean if I can't get a big Blast in a XB frame, I could settle for one in dirt track attire. Shawn, Prof, To whom it may concern, This is toooo much fun, I ordered my Banke rearsets today and a full fairing to run on the salt. Ray |

However - if Buell in their wisdom were to put an updated Blast eng. in an XB platform with basics instead of tol gear - they would still have a viable platform for dirt-track - right - so that would make sense if they were really trying to generalize their platform and produce a fun/competitive single at the same time. Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Ray (Fssnoc2501): GREAT looking Blast you are assembling. The Corbin seat looks like a perfect fit! How did you get it to be flush in the back? Other Blastards want to know. Now the 64,000$ question: how comfortable is the Corbin seat for you? Yeah, the rearsets look awfully inviting. |
