Jonny- Re: Pro series. My second muffler is on it's way to shedding a baffle. They both had loose baffles at about 10,000 Miles. I replaced the first one because of a cracked mount and dome torn up pipes. I probably caused the damage while dragging the pipe over seppd bumps, and rough terrain.




On the second one, it's in decent shape other than the loose baffle. I'll probably just put a hole in the pipe and baffle, and use a bolt to hold the baffle in place.

The comment about the V&H not coming apart - well, I can attest that I had one that did. But none of these exhausts are 100% reliable.

It's a shame that the Pro Series pipe is NLA.

Did Buell really stop offering the Pro-series pipe for the Blast?? I thought that you could still get them, just they stopped showing them on the website...

I guess I'm going to have to figure out a different muffler for my bike.

Thanks all. In addition to the V&H stuff I could dig out of the archives, what y'all have added is great. Its looking like I'll either a) rig up or repair the pro-series or b) buy the V&H b/c thats a lot easier for me to handle immediately. I was thinking back to when I got the PS and realized that I installed it w/o ever having read up on it or heard it or anything. So hey, I did it once, I might do it again!

All the posts really helped in turning the wife's blast into a better running, much more fun bike. Pro series air cleaner, V&H exhaust. A special thanks to EZBlast who must live on the site!
The local Buell dealer confirmed that the Blast Pro pipe has been dropped. May be some left out there though. He was willing to call, but I didn't want a flat black exhaust.
The stock exhaust broke in two, so I had to take action. The Pro Air cleaner was first. The V&H and jetting made a HUGE difference in the driveability of the bike. My wife actually likes it now. It's loud, but much easier to ride. Yep, it's truly a Blast! Thanks again!
Now, any idea why it misses (cuts out?) occasionally? Usually on the freeway, 65mph +.

I'd check out the tank breather, because it can cause similar problems, and it's a cheap fix. Unfortunately it's probably the ignition module.

There's no magic bullet. It depends on what RPM range you are going for, and what cams.

If we settle that Denish knows what he's talking about (and I think he does) we can use the following calculations.

From those we get can calculate a pipe diameter and length for a for certain RPM ranges with stock cams:

RPM, Pipe Inner Diameter, Length
4000-4500, 1.25" , 49"
5000-5500, 1.375", 39.75"
6000-6500, 1.5", 33.375"
7000-7500, 1.625", 28.75"

Hey all,
Ok have a question about the Kerker Exhaust System. How is it power wise compared to the other exhaust makers(IE.. Jardine, V&H,etc...)Also I heard that it is one of the best one out there because of the headpipe on it? is this true? thanks!!!

The head pipe is great, however the cross over tube and can seriously choke power - making about the same as the Pro-series. If you where to cut it off at the cross over, put on an adapter to fit on a can and add a Suppertrapp universal muffler mount - then you would probably have a very superior exhaust.

Humbolt - Like EZ said, the Kerker has the Potential to be a great exhaust. However that crossover tube (intended to give a deeper exhaust note) restricts flow, robs power and offsets the muffler can too far to the left.

Just a note about head pipes, it was recently confirmed that all the aftermarket pipes have the same diameter header - except the stepped proseries. So, you could modify any of them with a different muffler can in the future.

The kerker's main drawback is that having the muffler can way out to the left side severely limits cornering clearance on that side of the bike. You will find that it scrapes and drags on even moderate turns.

If you plan to buy it and then spend another $200 on a supertrap can and Frankenstein the Kerker header, you'd have a great exhaust.

If you're looking for something more "plug and play" go with the Vance and Hines. It is the same cost and a very good all around unit. It does require periodic maintenance and repacking of the glass-pack in order to prevent overheating and failure.

Avoid the Pro-Series. It is heavy, out of production, and recently has had quality issues.

There is also the Jardine. It is very similar to the V&H, but you can get a "quiet Core" to muffle it down more, and IMO, it fits the bike the best of all the options out there including the stock unit. The problem with the jardine is that the first couple purchased by members of this group failed in a very short time. Jardine was very good about replacing them, and a few members who very recently installed them haven't had any problems yet.

I Have a Bub - which is now discontinued. If I was buying an exhaust today, I'd probably take my chances on the Jardine, and get the quiet core to go with it for those times when I'm not worried about pure performance and want to be quiet/sneaky, etc. Be advised that the installation of the quite core on the jardine requires the complete removal of the exhaust from the bike.

Your other option is a D&D. About $200 more than either the V&H, Kerker or Jardine, it looks on paper to be one of the best for raw performance. Only thing is nobody around here has ever tested/owned/seen one in real life as far as I know. So, it's a bit of an unknown quantity. The length of it and the way it extends past and to the left of the rear wheel makes me wonder about cornering clearance issues for this pipe as well. But it is narrow and long so it would likely be minimal.

Even my Bub will scrape pavement occasionally, which really irritates me. (Part of the reason I'd take my chances on the jardine as well).

Cool, Ill check the link.... I just picked up the Kerker for $100.00, I thought the price was right so i took my chance... well its good to hear that its not a waste off my time!!!! LOL
Ill keep a lookout for a can in the future!!!!oh anyone know of a good place to get the jets for it, without costing an arm and firstborn!!

Kerker use a 45 primary and a stock 170 main regular HD CV 40 carb jets that you can buy at any HD or HD/Buell Dealer for only a few bucks per jet. The Blast carb is used on several different HD models - lol - though FI is making that list very small now a days - they still carry them.

If you buy the individual jets (Not a kit) from Daves (Appleton HD/Buell) they are not expensive and you will be sure to get the correct ones. As a bad web member you get a discount.

The same CV carb was also used on some import cruiser - I believe a Kaw Vulcan Classic......

DEFINITELY stay away from jet kits. Rapeism for questionable mods.

That would lead one to believe it is an inferior exhaust to the rest. It is not! It has its own drawbacks like the rest, but inferior it isn't.

Humboldtblast - The kerker can be a bit loud. It also will probably need periodic repacking, not a big deal at all though. I am going to experiment with some homemade muffler cores over the winter to see if I can get the exhaust volume down a click or two.

I hadn't heard about the crossover tube issues, but I will take that under advisement.

It does limit your clearance on left hand turns however i haven't found that to be a problem since I use the Blast predominantly for fairly mellow riding.

I have the pro series and have been very happy with it. I am not racing it so the weight is not an issue as far as I am concerned.

Light-

I believe the Pro Series pipe was an awesome product. Robust with a BIG FAT powerband. Worked very nicely on the out of the box motor but a lot of people feel the head pipe is too small for making real power.

My beefs with the pro series (tuning considerations notwithstanding):

* The coating on Loli's pipe got thrashed after a few rain rides at around the 10k mile mark (on the pipe - the bike has a lot more). Trying out the BBQ paint thing now...

* The mufflers aren't serviceable.

* The hardware included is incomplete. The stock bolts are too long so you have to kludge something up with the spacers. I like to use all-thread and 2 nuts / washers. Makes it a helluva lot easier to work with.

* THe factory apparently no longer makes it!!!!

Early spring riding does a number on my exaust due to the sand on the roads. I have found that the hi temp flat black ceramic works well. clean with steelwool wipedown with alcohol let dry and spray. wait for an hour spray light coat then dry over night. Have not had flaking or pealing issues at all. The quality issues that others have mentioned have not been with me at all. As far as the parts, mine came with everything needed or was able to be reused from the stock system and I did not need to add anything. I concur about the nonserviceability of the mufflers, but maybe that is what is being addressed and an updated muffler will be available. Or Shhhhhhhhh (he he he) maybe it's a mote point because the new Blast is on the way. wink wink nudge nudge know what I mean, know what I mean.

Does Anyone have any pictures of the how the kerker can attaches to the exhaust/bike. I think that the hole on my can is enlarged( where the bolt goes thru...) I can put a bigger washer on it, but have never seen one of these so i dont know if this is normal?
